Hope's P.O.V ... To Be Misunderstood And Alone

Hope's P.O.V

I was in my room, gathering all the things I'd need for my stay at my mom's house, When my phone rang. I walked over to my bedroom night stand and saw Maddy's name on the caller I.D. I immediately answered it.

"Hello?" I said, waiting to hear Maddy's voice.

"Oh, hey, I was meant to call you earlier ... but I had something I was doing this afternoon ... But I'm suppose to get you to come to this party tonight." Maddy said.

"Maddy, I can't come. I've got plans to go to my mom's house today. She'd be pissed if I cancelled. I'm sorry, but you'll have to go without me." I stated, I heard Maddy sigh.

"Hope, please come with me ... I'm begging you!" I'd never heard Maddy sound so desperate. I wanted to give in and tell her, yes. I was going to tell her 'okay', but then in came my brother, Scoti.

"Yo hobo! Yo momma here." Scoti said as he chomped down on his Slim Jim. I watched in disgust as Scoti chewed the Slim Jim with his mouth open.

"Close your mouth." I told him, he grinned.

"That's what he said." Scoti said, and then walked out of the room. I rolled me eyes and realized I was still on the phone with Maddy.

"Oh, Maddy, I really can't go, my mom is already here to pick me up." I said.

"Great," she muttered. "I'll talk to you later ... have fun." With that she hung up. I became a little worried that she might be mad at me. I hope she wasn't planing on me coming to the party tonight. Trust me when I say, I'd have loved to come and watch Savvy get drunk ...

Savvy ... Shit. I forgot to call her and tell her that I was sorry for saying those awful things about Allen. I bet she was very upset.

The honking of a car made me snap out of my train of thought and grab my bag.

Well, I'd have to call her tonight ... or more like tomorrow when she wasn't wasted and would remember.

I put my bag in the trunk of my mom's car. I waved bye to my dad and Scoti (Scoti flipped me off instead of waving bye. My dad smacked Scoti on the back of the head when Dad saw what Scoti was doing.)

"That boy will be in jail before he turns 18." My mom stated.

See, Scoti was not her son. My dad had an affair with another girl while he was married to my mom. When Mom found out that he had cheated on her, and knocked up the girl, my mom divorced him.

Though, I believe that they would have gotten a divorce soon or later with or without the fact that my dad cheated and impregnated someone. They were always fighting and never seeing eye to eye with one another. It was only time before they spilt. I barely remember the day they told me that they were getting a divorce. I was 7 ... eleven years ago ...

I ignored my mom's comment about Scoti, and just stared out of the window, wondering if I should tell my mom about Tom.

"So, Hope, how's school been?" My mom asked me, breaking the silence.

"Ummm, great."

Please don't ask about my grades ... Please ...

"How are your grades?"

Shit! I knew she would ask. I glanced nervously around the car, wondering whether I should tell her the truth ... that they were slowly slipping.

"They're about the same as last year." I had no idea what I made this time last year, I chuckled at myself.

"Really ..." I could tell she was not believing me one bit. "Care to elaborate on what you mean by them being the same as last year?" I sighed.

"You know, B's ..." Okay that was such a lie, more like a C's ... but I couldn't tell my mom.

"Oh, so I called your dad last night to talk to him about you spending more time at my house. He and I agreed that during the summer you are to come to my house." I shifted in the seat. The thought of spending three months with my mom and her annoying boyfriend, Gage ... Oh, I forgot about him ... Gaa!!! Hell no was I staying at their house for three straight months.

"Will I be spending the weekends at my dad's?" I asked, hoping that there will be some kind of break from my mom's over-bearing attitude.

"I guess you can, although Gage and I do want to take a trip to Michigan for two weeks to visit your grandparents." My mom stated as she turned down the street leading to her house."

Strangle me now!

"Ok ..." I said and then fiddled with my shoulder bag strap.

"Also while I was talking to your dad, I asked him for the real reason you didn't come to my house yesterday." I stopped messing with my shoulder bag. My eyes grew wide, and my stomach did a flip. Shit! She knew about Tom and I! "Hope, why didn't you just tell me you where going out ..." Oh shit, here it comes. "On a church retreat?" I stopped breathing ...

Wait...

"C-church re-retreat?" I furrowed my eyebrows. My mom on the other hand had a smile on her face.

"Yeah! Do you know how long I have been trying to get your dad to get you involved in church? Now, you will have to tell me all about the retreat." My mom said.

Oh I get it. My dad realized I lied to my mom about the date. He saw the perfect opportunity to tell her a lie that I went on a church retreat to get my mom off his back about it. Little did he realize that I had no idea what they did on a church retreat, and I didn't think he fully thought it through, that my mom would nag me with a billion questions about it.

"Well, you know ... we ... ummm ... we were blindfolded ... yeah ... so I had no idea where we were ... and ... ummm ... it was silent ... the ... pastor said we had to be blindfolded and silent so we could connect more with ... god ...yeah, you know ... god." Wow, I think that was the best lie I'd ever came up with (note of sarcasm). My mom on the other hand gave me a questioning look.

"Blindfolding? Silence? ... That is ... different." She didn't believe me, who blamed her. "What church supported the retreat?" She asked when we pulled up to the driveway. I had to think fast ... but then like a god-sent angel (irony), Gage came out of the house and waved at my mom and I. "He's so sweet, coming out here to help when there's a football game on." My mom said and then got out of the car. Gage walked over to us.

"Hey, need help?" He asked. We nodded and he went to the trunk, but right when he was going to pick up my suitcase, his phone went off. "Hello?" Gage answered. "Holy shit! No!" With that Gage ran inside of the house leaving my suitcase in the trunk. I sighed and grabbed. I noted that my mom was already inside. I walked in and saw Gage standing in front of the T.V. "No! No! I missed it! The winning touchdown! Shit! I missed it! Fuck!" Gage started yelling.

"Honey, it's just a game." My mom added coming into the living room.

"Just a game! That was the game that determined who goes to the Superbowl!" (A/N: I know the Superbowl is over with, but I had to add that. SORRY, and who was shocked the Giants won? I wasn't, lol!) My mom sighed dramatically at Gage.

"Big whoop ..." Gage looked at my mom with anger. "Hope, honey, you can just put your stuff in your room ... dinner will be ready in about an hour." I nodded and went to my room, knowing that my mom wanted me to leave because Gage and her were about to argue over whether the game was stupid or not.

Them fighting over a game was stupid!

Upon entering my room, I realized it had been more then a few weeks since I had been here. Hearing my mom and Gage arguing reminded me why.

I sat on my bed, surfing the Internet, completely bored for nearly an hour until my mom informed me that dinner was ready.

Sitting at the table for dinner was awkward. Gage and my mom kept staring daggers at each other. I felt the tension in the air, which made me lose my appetite. I was about to excuse myself from the table when my mom started talking to me.

"So, Hope, I never got my answer, what church supported your retreat?" My mom asked. I looked at the table, trying to think of what to say.

"Ummm ..." My eyes landed on the candles at the middle of the table. "Candles ... I mean ... Candle ... yep ... Candle Church." I could feel sweat slowly seep out of my pours. Which was something I felt when I got nervous. Gage smirked, I think he knew I was lying.

"Really, and where is this, Candle Church located?" Question Gage. I wanted to glare at him, for I knew I was lying, and he wanted to show me out.

"It's located in town ... not exactly sure where." I stated, with a straight face, yet, my palms were becoming clammy.

"Hope, are you lying to Gage and I?" My head bowed in shame for I had been lying. My mom exhaled loudly. "... It seems like your dad would lie to me about that. I've been bugging him for years, because I think you would really enjoy a retreat. But curiosity is getting the better of me, Hope, where did you go last night instead of coming to my house?" I couldn't speak, it felt like the room was slowly but surely closing in on me. I knew what my mom's reaction would be: anger. I could tell that already by her eyes boring into me, just for the fact that I was being silent.

"Hope, your mom is talking to you." Gage added. Oh man, I wanted to slap him!

"I-I ..." I couldn't say it.

"You what?" My mom asked.

"I ... I was..."

Damn it Hope, just spit it out! So what if your mom gets mad! It's your life!

My mind was right.

"I went on a date ... with my boyfriend." I said in a low voice, yet, I knew that my mom and Gage heard me. A shocking gasp came from my mom.

"A date?! What?!" She shrieked. "No! No! No! You can't date." My mom shook her head violently. I felt anger boiling inside of me. "Do you know what the consequences of dating could be?" I said nothing. "Ummm, pregnancy? Broken heart? Just to name a few!-" I cut her off.

"Mom! I'm more responsible than that!" I stated.

"Really? I can't tell!" She shouted at me, I wanted to slap her so bad!

"I'm not like you! I don't plan on having sex my prom night, and getting knocked up! Then be forced to marry I guy I never truly love! To find years later he cheated on me! Not every guy is like my dad!" My mom stood up, hit me across the cheek, and my face tilted to the side from the force of the slap. I said not a word to my mom or Gage who was just sitting there, staring at us, as I went straight to my room. I searched through all my bags for my phone and soon found it. I dialed Savvy's number, hoping she would pick up. I desperately needed someone to come pick me up. The party that Maddy wanted me to go to earlier, really didn't sound that bad right now.

Savvy's phone went straight to voice mail.

"Shit." I muttered as I ended the call and tried Maddy's number.

None of them were answering, I have called, Kay, Savvy, and Maddy for the past twenty minutes, but they either are not answering or it's going straight to voice mail.

Who else can I call?

Tom!

I called him and on the third ring he answered.

"Hello?" Tom shouted to the phone, I could hear loud music in the back ground and lots of talking. I became curious as to where Tom was.

"Yeah, Tom, it's me, Hope?" I said.

"Hoe?" Tom questioned ... wait did he just call me a hoe?

"Hoe?! What?"

"You're the one said that your name is Hoe."

"Hoe? No! My name is-" I was cut off.

"Tom! Come on! They are doing body shots!" I heard someone say to Tom over the loud noise.

"Listen, hoe, got to go." With that the phone clicked off. I sat there, not breathing, not blinking, not moving. The second I blinked, tears started coming down my face. My breathing started becoming heavy as I let in air. Seconds later heard a knock on the door.

"Hope?" I hear my mom say.

"G-g-go away!" I shouted at her. I had no idea what I would say to her if she saw me like this. Ofcourse, she didn't listen, and walked in anyways.

"Hope, honey, what happened?" I vigorously wiped the tears away.

"Nothing." I lied and shoved my phone into my pocket. I stood up and put all my things back into my suitcase. "But I will say this, I'm going to get a ride home and I will not be coming here for the summer." I boldly stated. My mom's green eyes pierced mine.

"But! Hope! I'm your mother!" She replied.

"Then support me! Don't hit me!" I said. "I can't believe you smacked me! Dad might not be a faithful guy, but you know what, he would never harm or hurt me! Ever! Can't say that much for you!" I yelled at her, she took a step away from me as my words sunk in.

"I-I didn't mean to." Was all she said, before grabbed my suit case.

"Well, you did."

"Want to talk about it?" My dad asked as we entered the house. I shook my head.

"No, I just want to be alone." I admitted.

"You're in luck! Before you decided to come home Scoti and I were planning on going camping." My dad admitted.

"I told your little ass I ain't goin!" Scoti yelled from the kitchen.

"Yes you are! We haven't done father and son bonding in years! And who you calling little? You twig, Eminem wanna be." My dad called out to Scoti, I chuckled at him. My dad and Scoti were always talking bad to one another, and at times they were so funny.

"Oh, yea forgot. You're the fat guy NASA keeps sending satellites to orbit around." Scoti said as he entered the room. My dad rolled his eyes.

"Son, that is so old your grandma told me that when I was little." My dad said. We all started laughing.

"Dad, that was the worst comeback ... ever." I told him, he nodded.

"I agree ..." We controlled our laughing and my dad looked at me. "You know what, Hope come with us." My dad abruptly said. I looked at him with shock.

"What camping?" I asked. He nodded. "No, no, that is father-son bonding, plus I'm really tired, and I think I should head to bed, it's ten o'clock." I stated. "Wait? Why are y'all leaving for camping at ten at night?"

"I would have left much earlier, if Scoti here didn't procrastinate by playing video games and not packing."

"Hey, yo, I woulda packed, but then John, my bud, said he beat my high score. I had to re-establish the number one rank." Scoti stated.

"Well, now that you have re-established that you can play video games while I yell at you to get pack ... you can get your skinny ass in my car, and we can finally leave ... give your sister some much needed peace."

"But, I haven't packed my shit." Scoti said, dad shook his head.

"Too bad shorty, now get in the car, before I decide I need a few extra bucks and pawn your video games, sounds like a good way to get it."

"You would pawn my baby?" Scoti asked surprised. My dad glared at Scoti, who sighed and started towards the front door.

"We'll be back by Sunday night. Money for your meals is in the cookie jar, and I trust you not to have a party like your brother did in my absence last time." I nodded.

"I know, I know." I stated, he sighed and gave me a skeptical look.

"Are you sure you don't want to come?"

"Yes, I am positive." He looked at me.

"Then do you want me to cancel? Scoti and I can stay here this weekend, if you want."

"I want peace and quiet, not Scoti blasting music all night and him bringing friends over." I stated, knowing what would happen if they stayed. My dad nodded and then kissed my forehead before finally saying goodbye and leaving. I looked around the kitchen and realized I was hungry.

<><><><><><><>

I didn't realize I had fallen asleep until a constant buzzing woke me up. I rubbed my eyes and looked at the clock above the living room T.V.

It was two o'clock in the morning.

Who would be ringing my door bell this late?

I stood and went to the door. Once I opened it, my mouth was wide open.

For before me was Tom, holding a passed out Savvy bridal style.

"There's something I need to tell you Hope." Tom said.
