Get Dressed

Shayne

I'd never known such torture in my life.

The mere thought that Olivia was within arms reach and I wasn't able to touch her was...

Fuck, I needed a drink.

Anxious to finally be free from the board meeting that had pulled me away from the source of my current suffering, I hadn't even noticed Sasha leave her office.

"Woah there, you trying to scare away angels with that scowl," she teased.

"Now's not the time, Sash."

A look of concern replaced her playful one. "Oh, it definitely is. I know that look way too well. What's wrong?"

The set look on her face told me she wasn't going to let it go. I rolled my eyes in frustration and jerked my head towards my office. "Come on."

"Yeah?" she said when she sat against the edge of my desk.

"She woke up."

Her big brown eyes widened. "What?! Why didn't you tell me?"

"I don't know, okay. I'm still processing everything." I scrubbed a hand over my face. "She doesn't remember me."

Her jaw dropped. "You're fucking with me, Shay."

"I wish I was, really, I do."

"She doesn't remember anything?"

I shook my head.

"Well that's some movie ass shit right there." A sympathetic look crossed her features. "Don't you think it's time to tell that poor woman that her daughter hadn't actually died in the fire. She's suffered enough, Shayne."

"You, better that anyone else knows the moment she's not under my protection, she will get seriously hurt, for real this time."

"I know that, but I don't think the woman would tell anyone if she knew her daughter's life was in danger."

Just to get her off my back, I said, "Okay, I'll think about it."

"Think fast, cause I'm starting to think you just want Olivia for yourself."

Sasha's words were ringing through my mind as I drove to my apartment. The woman must have been a little high to make such an accusation. I wasn't a creep.

"I'm not a fucking creep," I announced to no one in particular when I stood under the spray off a cool shower.

Even as I pulled into the paved driveway of the estate, I continued to assure myself. "I'm trying to protect her, not keep her as my prisoner."

But as I looked up at the century old mansion, built like a fortress, with its surveillance cameras and its heavily guarded posts, a sense of panic hit me.

Maybe I was being selfish with Olivia. But heavens help me, I needed that girl in so many ways. Still, I was going to consider contacting her mother, all thanks to the kindness of my heart.

"Everything good, boss?"

I snapped my head towards Joshua, the newest member to the Raven Angels, my family. And, the other half of my life I wasn't too keen on people knowing about. Some things were best left unknown.

"Sure, how's it going? Done your homework?"

He was polishing the rims of a sleek gray Range Rover, no doubt the latest addition to Drew's collection.

The blue eyed boy grinned shippishly. "No, but Mr. Drew said he'd help me if I did the rims."

The boy was barely into his teens and he'd already suffered and seen enough. If I hadn't pulled him out of the whorehouse I'd found him in, I would never have forgiven myself. His whore of a mother had eloped with the motherfucker I'd been tracking, Jason Long.

But those were problems for another day. At the moment, my biggest one was Olivia Ryans. I'd have to get used to simply staring at her like a creep.

"Good. Anybody giving you trouble at school?" I'd enrolled him at a new private school as a way to start over until things settled. He was a smart little kid.

"Not at all. I have lots of friends."

I gave him an encouraging smile. "Good for you." The kid had already captured a huge part of my heart.

I stepped through the double doors of the entrance, embracing the warm feeling I always got when I came home.

Tonight, the house was quiet, just like every other Tuesday night. Most of everyone must still have been at their normal everyday jobs or attending to the orders Drew or I may have given them.

I came across a couple of members as I made my way up the grand staircase, and the fearful respect in their acknowledgment seemed to rub me the wrong way tonight. Could be because I read that same exact look in Olivia's face three weeks ago, when I'd been sure I'd go mad with the fear of having almost lost her.

But still, even now when she's healed and safe, she still found me a threat. A horrendous thought then came to my mind. What if she never got her memory back? What if...

"Y'all, you got a second?" Drew said, his big grizzly body appearing from his office door.

I continued to walk towards my destination. "I'm busy."

"Yeah, yeah, it ain't gon take long. It's about your little whore anyway."

Red overcame my vision as I approached him. "What did you say?" I spoke quietly yet venomously.

"I'm kidding, damn. I just wanted to see your reaction. She got you wrapped around her little finger doesn't she?"

I sighed in frustration. "Dee, how many times are we gonna have this conversation? It's starting to piss me the fuck off."

"Look, all I'm saying is that she's a troublemaker. She's bringing the kind of trouble we don't want knocking at our door."

"You and I both know its not her fault."

"Bullshit. She's your weakness and you know it."

Because I knew it, I ignored his words. "Look, nothing's gonna change how I feel about her," I admitted. "But I do value your opinion, no matter how misplaced it may be. What exactly did you want to talk about?"

He slid a heavy hand over his bold head, seeming frustrated. "No point in telling you, but I'll tell you anyway. The idea is to keep the girl safe, right? So I can make arrangements for a safe place. One that is hopefully far away from here. You said it yourself, it's not her fault. So if she's far from you then I'm sure she'll be safer wherever you're not present."

His words ended up infuriating me. "Fuck off, Drew."

I walked away, noting his sigh of resignation before I heard his office door close.

Ever since Drew had decided to leave the co-ownership of Reyvox to lead the Raven Angels full time, we'd been butting heads. Him, always complaining about my lack of attention towards the family. And me, privately hating how good he was at leading the gang, even though he came second in command to me.

This feud could cost me my position in the family. People feared and respected me, but all the love went to that big grizzly man. Who could blame them though? I too loved the ever grinning motherfucker even though I'd never admit it to anyone.

I knocked softly when I reached the door at the end of the hallway. No response.

Without wasting a breath, I was punching in the code on the keypad and swinging the door open.

There was no one in the room, but before the irrational panic could attack me, something on the bed caught my eye.

A matching set of white lace underwear and a sunflower-yellow, short, flared dress were laid out neatly over the white covers of the bed. I'd bought the garments—among a few others—for Olivia, a few days before she'd woken up.

I greedily drank in the relief, realizing she must have been in the shower. Of course I'd been too panicked to figure that out.

Unfortunately, she wouldn't like me snooping about her underwear, or who knew what state she'd leave the bathroom in? Pain shot through my body at the thought of watching her step out of the bathroom with nothing but droplets of water covering her curves. I suddenly couldn't breathe.

Dammit, I still needed that drink.

Before I could step out, however, for both our sakes, I heard the door behind me squeak open, a gentle gasp following after. I was too afraid to turn around.

"What are you doing here?" Her voice shook and I wanted to kick myself for frightening her. I even wanted to shoot myself in the leg for having allowed her fear of me to take root.

"Don't worry. I'm leaving now. I'll come back later."

She stopped me before I could walk through the door. "Is there anything you wanted?"

Yes. I want to talk to you. I want to watch your mouth move. I want to smell your hair. I want to taste your lips again. I want to touch you. I plain want you, baby. Come back to me.

"Nothing urgent, I'll come back later."

"Wait, I wanted to ask you something."

I immediately span around at the opportunity that she may need me. "Anything you wan—"

Well, she certainly wasn't naked, but it didn't mean my imagination didn't run wild realizing there was nothing behind that alarmingly short rob.

Christ, she had the most spectacular legs.

I choked on my drool and coughed loudly, diverting my eyes to the ceiling. "Anything you want?"

"More like need. It's actually kind of personal. Would it be possible if we went by a convenience store?"

I immediately met her dark green eyes. "No fucking chance," I growled, making sure to keep my gaze above her shoulders. But it didn't mean her stunning face alone wasn't a great distraction. Something about the way she tied the towel above her head made her look incredibly sexy.

"Please."

"No. Whatever you need can be bought for you." Despite the temptation that she was, I wasn't about to put her in danger.

She licked her luscious lips, taking a step forward. It was clear she was still inwardly cowering at my presence. "You could have a thousand people watch over me if you want, but I refuse to allow anyone to look after my needs like I'm an invalid."

She folded her arms, and for a moment, I saw my Olivia right then. Mad smoldering eyes and all. Fuck.

My resolve was quickly falling. "Is it so important?"

Hope fled into her eyes. "Yes. I promise to be extra careful."

I supposed a stop by the store wouldn't be much cause for concern. "Fine, but I'm coming with you."

Her eyes became large pools of shock. "But... "

My brain surmised a theory just then. I reached her in two strides, anger coursing through me. "If you think for one second that I'll let you run away from me... "

She stared up at me, a conflicted look crossing her features. There was barely any distance between us, and I was torn between shaking her into oblivion and swooping her up into my arms for a soul sucking kiss. If her darkening irises were any indication, she was anticipating the latter.

Too angry to give into my baser instincts and none too motivated to take advantage of her when she was clearly afraid of me, I abruptly turned away. "We leave in ten minutes, get dressed."
