Alex

"Um, I'm sorry, what?"

"The room you booked. You booked it for next month." I stared at the monitor she had swiveled around for me to see, then my eyes caught hers again. I looked at her like she must've lost her damn mind, and she looked back at me like I had lost mine.

"Listen ma'am," I glanced down and caught sight of her name tag. "Susan? Listen Susan, you see that man over there?" I pointed at Christian.

He was currently sitting in one of the hotel lounge chairs, cursing Brad out through phone. Brad had apparently forgotten to make reservations for a rental car and now we were going to need to set something up with Mavericks company drivers. Christian's voice carried throughout the entire lobby.

"That man is currently cussing out his attorney over the line. You want to know what for?" Susan looked at me expectantly. "For forgetting to get him a rental car. Now listen here, Susan... That man is my fucking boss. Unless you want murder on your hands, I suggest we try to work something out."

Susan looked at me.

Then at Christian.

Then back at me.

"Okay sir. I do apologize about this inconvenience but we really are all booked up. We only have one room available due to a last minute cancellation. Keep in mind however-"

"I'll take it!" I cut in before she could say anything else . Christian had ended his call, and he was starting to make his way over to me.

"Would you like the same two nights stay?" She asked.

"Keep your voice down, Susan! But yes, same two nights." I whispered to her. She started to log the our information in the system, and that was when Christian arrived at my side.

"What's taking so damn long?" He grumbled. "We've got our meeting in less than an hour."

"Susan here was having some difficulty finding our reservation, but she was able to locate it." I replied calmly. I saw Susan raise an eyebrow at me as I shamelessly through her under the bus.

"Well get you shit together Susan, we don't have all day." He snapped.

Susan sent me a full on glare at that one... and in her defense, it was well deserved. Not even seconds later, she all but slammed our key cards on the counter and spit out through gritted teeth and a fake smile "enjoy your stay at The Plaza."

All I could do was mouth an apology as Christian pulled me back and dragged us through the lobby towards the elevators. "We've got about 15-20 minutes to get ready before a company car will be here. That's 15-20 minutes to get everything ready. Our first meeting is at noon with the CEO of Mavericks, John Terry. If everything goes well, we'll then have two more meetings going into detail about the Gala and setting things into motion."

We excited the elevator on the seventeenth floor. Our cards said our room number was 1708. I lead Christian towards our side of the building.

"How late is everything going till?" I asked.

"The goal is to get back to the hotel by nine o'clock pm. Each conference will run for almost two hours, with about an hour of break time in between." He replied. I slid my key card into the door lock and waited for it to turn green, before yanking down on the knob.

We pushed our suitcases and carryons through first. "Brad just sent me a new set of estimated figures on the Gala so we'll need to use our down time efficiently-" Christian continued, then stopped short, and I almost ran into him on the way in.

"Alex."

"Yes?" I asked, walking around him to see what had stopped him dead in his tracks. It had managed to stop me dead in mine too.

We were both staring at one king sized bed surrounded by a clear view of the city. The city was an absolutely breathtaking view...

... But the key words here were one bed.

"There's only one bed in here."

I gave him a slow nod. This wasnt happening this wasnt happening this wasnt fucking happening.

"Why is there only one bed in here?"

Jesus, take me now.

"I-I-" I started. Christian looked back at me. "I may have sort of messed up our reservations."

Christians eyes were on a whole new level of intense.

Lord? I changed my mind, please spare me.

He started to say something, but then stopped himself short.

"We don't have time for this shit. Get the laptops out." He directed as he propped his suitcase up on the bench at the end of the bed, and got to work.

I stared at him blankly, completely taken back by his reaction. But as soon as he shot me a glare that sent shivers down my spine, I got to work.

-

"See I had thought I booked it for this month but really I had accidentally booked it for next month which should have been obvious considering all the availability they had on their website-"

"Alex" Christian interjected. "Stop talking. Start working."

We were currently zipping through traffic en route to our destination. Christian was focused and determined as he started to compile the new data.

I, on the other hand, was doing my best to explain to him how everything had unfolded. Christian was right however, we really didn't have time to dwell on the mix up.

Where we were going to sleep tonight was honestly the least of our worries right now, considering it could be a cardboard box tomorrow, if we didn't nail this deal today.

I opened up the documents Christian was sharing with me, and did my best to stay focus. Stealing glances his way was becoming more and more difficult to not do. Christian was in his flow state, you could tell. I watched on with awe as this man created last minute graphs and articles and slipped them with ease into our presentation.

Sitting next to him had never made me feel so intellectually inferior before.

"Alex?" Christian spoke, breaking the trance I was in.

"Yes?" I asked. He was looking over at me now.

"I need you to promise me one thing."

"What?"

"Regardless of what that bitch ass, dick head of a COO Jack Nickelson says or does, I want you to make sure I don't lose my cool. I cannot embarrass myself and this company in front of John Terry."

My fingers reached up to gently rub the bridge of my nose. Who the fuck was Jack Nickelson? Christian had never mentioned this guy before.

"Listen. As long as you refrain from using any of the words you just said right now, in front of him, you'll be alright."

I said those words as reassuring as I possibly could... but that didn't do anything to ease my anxiety.

The bottom line was that the fate of the company was resting on the shoulders of an impulsive, hot-headed nutcase.
