Alex

As we pulled into the parking lot of Ivanov Corp, I noticed just how packed the visitor parking was. The cars that occupied damn near ever space, looked beyond expensive. There were an abundance of high end vehicles, with a few limos parked in the front. A sign that read Valet Parking, was positioned towards the right side of the building, and it had a few other signs with arrows on them that directed us around the side of the building.

Sure enough, there was valet workers stationed at the side entrance, waiting on each car that pulled up. I felt goofy pulling my janky ass Prius up to this man who's name tag read Chad. He was incredibly sweet to us as Joan, Derek, and I all piled out of the car, and handed him my set of keys.

"Take good care of her." I joked with Chad. He gave me another polite smile before sliding into my drivers seat, and pulling the car into our underground parking.

Before we even made it into Ivanov Corp, you could hear the event. Music was flooded through the lobby of the building. There was a large fancy sign that read Welcome. A man was ready to greet us as soon as we made it to the doors of our convention center.

"Good evening Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Holding, and Ms. Delores. Please come with me right this way." He spoke, before opening up the main doors for us. When I did catch sight of the Gala room, I couldn't help but openly gape.

It. Was. Gorgeous.

There was white and gold decal everywhere. About 30 round tables were positioned throughout the room with cutlery and plates placed in correlation with each chair. Hundreds of guests were already seated, enjoying the catering and watching the live musical performance that was playing up front. I scanned the room, looking for Christian. Sure enough, his family was at the first table closest to the stage. I could only make out Christian because he was standing up behind someone else.

The man that had greeted us at the front, brought us over to Christian's table. When his family came into view, that was when I stopped dead in my tracks.

Next to Christian, was his mother and father, as well as Brad, John Terry, and Miles. There was also one other woman next to Christian. When realization settled in on who that was, the glass of water that was given to me by our escort, almost slipped through my fingers. Christian turned around to meet us.

"Alex." Christian smiled. I didn't smile back. Instead, I said the first few words that came to mind.

"What the wholesome complete fuck is she doing here?"

-

"Alex, please don't make a scene." Christian spoke as soon as he managed to pull me into the first office he could find.

"Make a scene, Christian? Are you fucking kidding me? You invited my fucking mother. This isn't even a scene, I promise you, I'll show you what the fuck a scene looks like."

"Please, Alex. Just listen, okay?"

"Listen? Listen? No Christian, you fucking listen. It was not your place to invite her. It was not your place to get involved. Why would you even let me come here tonight? Why would you make me go through all this?" I was bordering on either starting to cry, or swinging on Christian. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do first, but my blood was far past boiling.

"This was not my idea." Christian pleaded with me. "In order for her to agree to rehabilitation, she requested that she come here tonight to see you."

I was trying to count backwards from ten. I failed.

"Did you ever stop to wonder why I hadn't seen my mother in so long? Did you ever stop to think that I didn't agree to see that fucking nutcase because it was for my own mental peace?" I spat back angrily at him. "And if you think for one second that woman is going to stay in rehab, you're dumber than I thought you were. How much money do you think I fucking wasted on trying to get that woman help?"

Pain flashed across Christian's face at my words. In any other, and I mean any other fucking instance, I would've cared. Tonight, I didn't.

"Alex, she overdosed a few days ago. If my team hadn't found her, she would have died."

"Then you should have left her to fucking die."

As soon as I said those words, I froze completely. Christian's eyes grew wide.

"You don't mean that." He whispered barely audible to me.

And he was right. I didn't mean that.

But the words had already been said.

That was when I lost it completely. Tears won that game of tug and war as they started to stream down my face. Christian eyes softened at me as he quickly pulled me into him. "It's okay. It's okay." He whispered against me while I shook uncontrollably in his arms. I felt my tears dampening his suit, and I tried to pull away so I wouldn't ruin the jacket, but he just held me tighter.

"Christian, I can't fucking do this." I mumbled into his shoulder, between sobs."

"That's the thing, Alex. You don't have to do this alone. You never had to do this alone. Let me take some of that weight off your shoulders. This will be her last chance to get her shit together, if she doesn't, then that's it. At least you'll know that you did everything you could to help her. Whatever outcome plays out will be on her." He whispered to me.

I stayed quiet for a moment as tears continued to fall. Listening to Christians heart beat besides my ear, gave me a level of comfort. It was beating hard against his chest.

He leant back slightly so he could tilt my head up to face him. "Cause I won't leave your side for shit. Your kinda stuck with me." I couldn't stop the small smile that played against my lips at his words. They made my stomach flip as his eyes bore into mine. His hands reached up to wipe the tears away from my cheeks, then he bent down and placed a soft kiss on my lips.

It was tender, and gentle, when his lips moved against mine. One hand tangled itself in my mess of hair, while the other held me even tighter against him. Before Christian could deepen the kiss, we were interrupted by someone clearing their throat from the doorway. When Christian and I broke away to see who it was, Brad was leaning up against the doorframe next to Joan. Brad looked less than surprised for the most part, while Joan looked like she was three seconds away from fainting.

"My fucking god, that was hot." She blurted out.

I chuckled as I pulled away from Christian. I guess I hadn't really disclosed this part of our relationship to her yet. When I looked back at Christian, I noticed his jacket now had the largest tear stains.

"You can't go out like that." Brad said simply when he also saw the ruined suit.

He then did something that was very unBrad. He walked over to Christian and pulled Christian's suit jacket off him, before slipping his own suit jacket off, and handing it to Christian.

"I can't take that." Christian said almost immediately.

"You can, and you will. The head of the company cannot go out without a full suit. Mum already acts disappointed in everything I do, I think she'll live tonight seeing me in just a shirt." Christian gave his brother a warm smile and a thank you, as he slipped the jacket on. "Plus, Joan over here is already trying to have me offload every fucking suit I own." He added.

I saw Joan give us a nervous smile. "Don't act like we all don't know this mans got a problem."

Christian and I nodded at that. Brad really did have a suit problem.

"Then shall we get on with the night of festivities?" Brad asked. Christian turned to me.

"Shall we?" He asked me.

I hesitated before I finally mustered up the courage to reply. "Fine, but if that woman says a single triggering word to me, I cannot be held responsible for punching her in her fucking throat."

Christian smiled down at me, then did something I wasn't expecting. He slipped his hand into mine, and led me back out into the Gala room.

His hands didn't let go of mine as we entered the crowded center with every last eye on us.
