It took me approximately 4 hours to find a suit for Alex. Instead of it being too many cooks in the kitchen, there were far too many friends in the fitting room. I'd pick something out for Alex, and give my opinion on it...

Then Joan would give her opinion...

Then Derek would give his opinion...

Then Joan and I would ignore that opinion and debate amongst ourselves on why it did or didn't look good. After a few more failed options, Brad decided to get involved. He did, after all, know more about suit fitting than Joan and myself.

The night ended with a suit that Brad, Joan, and I could all agree with.

Alex looked exhausted.

Derek had knocked over four mannequins.

And I was left with a splitting headache.

When I got home later that night, I saw a text come through from my father. He had messaged to let me know that he was approved for the extension, and would be attending the Gala. All this did was add some unnecessary stress to an already stressful day. I'm sure many of our long term sponsors would be ecstatic about my fathers attendance, considering it had been some time since they'd seen him last.

I was going to need to move a few guest speakers around, in order to make room for a speech I knew he was going to want to give. As annoying as this would all be, it was good news for the company, and the potential investors that would be attending. It also gave Ivanov Corp the look of a more unified front.

I heard my desk phone ring as I started to unpack my briefcase. It was coming from another phone within the house.

"Hi Nathaniel." I spoke into the line.

"Good evening sir. I see you've made it home. I was just tending to some things in the courtyard when I heard the car. Looks like there is a call coming through to you from Regional... Would you like me to send it though?" He asked.

"Yes please Nathaniel, thank you." I replied "Could you also bring me up a whiskey on the rocks? It's been one of those days."

"Absolutely, sir. The caller will be on the line when I hang up here. I'll see you shortly with that drink." Nathaniel said, before I heard his line end. Seconds later, another voice spoke through.

"Hello? I was hoping to reach Mr. Ivanov?" A woman asked.

"Yes, this is he." I replied. "May I ask who's speaking?"

"Good evening Mr. Ivanov. This is Sandy from the Regional Treatment Facility. I was forwarded a case from one Bradford Stevenson. He mentioned you had an inquiry into the initial treatment of Vanessa Hamilton? We received this request one day ago."

Through all this hussle and bustle, Brad had managed to submit my inquiry. I was going to have to thank him later for that.

"Yes Sandy, thank you. Do you have any updates for me?" I asked.

"Yes, sir. We have since stabilized her. She is being treated for the overdose, however, she's refused rehabilitation. She would need her to give consent in order for us to process her admission. There's no way we can force her."

I fiddled with my pen cap as I listened to the update. When she said that last bit, my thumb unintentionally pinched down on the cap so hard, it slipped and flung the cap across my desk.

"Is there anything I can do?" I asked the woman. My jaw had started to hinge and unhinge as I did my best to control my anger.

"Unfortunately sir, there isn't much you can. You're more than welcome to visit her here. She'll be discharged at one in the afternoon tomorrow. We do require a final decision as to whether we will be enrolling her in rehabilitation before she is released, so I would suggest you do your best to try and convince her." Sandy explained.

"That sounds good Sandy, thank you. I'll be in tomorrow before she is discharged. Please notify the facility for me." I replied.

"Absolutely, sir. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning. If she does agree to rehabilitation, would you like to charge the same account on file?"

"Yes please. Keep the all the information the same, and charge that account for all billing. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call." I replied.

"Thank you very much Mr. Ivanov. You have yourself a wonderful night, and we'll talk again in the morning."

"You as well, Sandy. Take care." I replied in the same friendly tone she had. As soon as I hung up, I heard a knock on the door.

Nathaniel always did this thing where he was hesitant to enter my office while I took a call. In his defense, he had narrowly missed getting hit by a paperweight I once threw at my office doorway. I had gotten into it with one of our vendors about a year back, and I hadn't noticed Nathaniel until it was too late.

Luckily, the man had the reflexes of a goddamn ninja. Not only did he dodge the paperweight, but his hand caught it before it could fly out into the hallway.

Since then, he's always waited until the call is over, then knocked first before entering.

I don't necessarily blame him for not trusting me. I did offer him a nice bonus to his paycheck because of what happened, but all he said was "I've been serving the Ivanov's for many years. I knew what I was getting into taking this job... and frankly, You've got nothing on your fathers throw."

I couldn't help but smile at that.

Nathaniel had been the caretaker for my fathers estate. During my fathers absence, my father sent Nathaniel to me, to assist me with my work. He had watched over Brad and I since we were children, and if I was to entrust my life in anyone's hands, it would be his.

"How was the call?" He asked, as he made his way into my study, and set the drink I had asked for on my desk.

"Not as well as I imagined." I replied honestly. "Do you think you could clear up my schedule for the morning? I know my mother had requested me over, but it doesn't look like I'll make it."

"Of course, sir. Would you like me to arrange for a company car? I know the drive to Regional is a little ways out, and I'm sure your parents would appreciate you having a driver." Nathaniel mentioned. He had started to busy himself with tidying up my files.

"Thank you Nathaniel, but that won't be necessary. I think it's best if I go on my own for this one." I replied. He gave me a firm nod before placing the glass of whiskey on a coaster, and heading back out into the hallway. Before Nathaniel could disappear around the corner, he stopped himself short.

"Are you sure you should be meddling in Alex's affairs? You know how private some people prefer to keep their personal life."

I glanced up at him, and my eyes met his.

Throughout the entirety of Nathaniel's services, he had never once given me bad advice.

Something told me he wasn't going to start now.

"I just want to help." I replied quietly.

He gave me another nod, and left me to think about his words.
