The doctor was examining her when she asked to speak with him alone in the presence of Ephraim’s mother, the doctor stared at Ephraim’s mother, she understood and left, few minute after their discussion, the doctor went out with a sad face, Ephraim’s mother noticed it, she ran to him.

“What happened doctor? What did she say? Is she okay?” She asked anxiously.

The doctor was short of words.

“She made me promise not to tell anyone.” he said.

This got Ephraim’s mother worried, she went to meet her inside and persuaded her to talk but she was determined.

The pressure increased as the time of birth approached.

The doctor invited Ephraim and his mother into his office to discuss the current situation of Ginika’s condition with them, he also explained to them how it is advisable to deliver the baby through cesarean section instead of the natural way of birth because she might not have the energy to push out the baby.

This got Ephraim worried. He looked at his mother and asked.

“What do you think mum, will that be safe for her and the baby?”

The mother sighed.

“Doctor, if you think it is safe, please carry on, all we want is both of them to be safe” she said.

The doctor brought out a document to sign to effect the approval of the caesarian section which Ephraim did.

After several examinations and tests, the doctor concluded on the date of the operation. Ephraim and his mother couldn’t concentrate on anything. Aina supported her in her little ways while Effiong wouldn’t stop visiting with his wife and new born child.

It was the operation day.

She was moved into the theater room, they were about to start the operation when Ginika told the doctor to invite her husband in.

He got confused and asked why and she told him that it’s for a personal reason. The nurses looked at one another in surprise. The doctor gestured to one of the nurses to get her husband. She walked out briskly to get him.

Ephraim, his mother and Effiong were at the reception. Ephraim paced the corridor back and forth with his arms folded, while his mother knelt and praying in silence, Effiong sat on the chair with his head down.

The sight of the nurse got their attention, they ran towards her.

“What’s wrong, nurse? How is she? Has she delivered?” Ephraim quizzed curiously.

“No sir, your wife requested to see you before the operation commenced, so the doctor said I should call you in.” she explained.

Ephraim’s mother was curious.

“Are you sure everything is fine in there? Please tell me, my daughter” she asked.

“We have not started anything ma” the nurse replied and headed back into the theater room, Ephraim followed her.

He was given an overall jacket and a nose mask before he was granted access inside.

The sight of machines and other sharp medical tools that they were about to use on his wife got him petrified. He shook in fear.

He went beside her and held her hand. She couldn’t speak louder, she held him firmly and touched his cheeks.

“Baby, don’t worry, I will be fine” she said.

Tears rolled down his cheeks.

“I’m so sorry baby, I’m sorry I put you through this pain, please forgive me” he cried.

” I’m sorry too. (She coughs) the reason why I called for you is to tell you the name I want you to name our child either male or female… ”

Ephraim interrupted.

“What are you talking about? We would be there together to name the child, why are you telling me?” He asked amidst tears.

“I know, I am telling you because I don’t want to forget and also let you be aware, you are about to become a father my love.” she said as she fondled his hand.

She continued.

“The child would be named Starr, I mean a Star with double R” she said.

Ephraim got confused.

“Why Starr?” He asked.

“Because stars are children of the sun, but I want our child to shine brighter than the normal star that’s the reason for the extra R” she explained.

He kissed her forehead and held her hand close to his chest.
