Chief Adedeji appeared before them. “Her father sent her to me for something that concerns business”.

Dorcas scoffed. “What about the green book that you are so dying to find?”.

Chief Adedeji fumed at his daughter. “You were the one that took it!!!”.

“Ufeoma stole it from her father to give it to you so that you can give her a chance to marry Bayo”. Dorcas narrated.

Mrs Adedeji was dumbfounded.

“Marry Bayo??????”.

“Where is my green book!!!” Chief Adedeji fired at her.

“I will never tell you where it is!!!!”. She fired back at him.

He walked into her room and returned with her university certificate. “At the count of ten and you don’t provide the green book, I will tear your certificate to shreds!!!!”.

“How dare you!!!”. Mrs Adedeji snarled. “Your useless green book, is it more important than your daughter’s certificate?”.

He slapped his wife and grit his teeth at her . “If I don’t win that election, do you think I will be able to live????”.

Dorcas sobbed uncontrollably. “You value your position more than your family”.

“Where is the green book?????”.

Ada and Bayo rushed out of their room when they heard the noise.

“What is going on here?”. Bayo asked surprisedly.

“Daddy wants to tear my school certificate because of his political position. He even slapped mother”. Dorcas cried out.

“One, two, three…”. Chief Adedeji counted in anger.

“I will talk!”. Dorcas cried out. “It was the gardener. I saw him when he sneaked into your study room that night and took the book. I wondered what it was so I decided to watch your study room closely”.

The certificate fell off his hand as he gasped at the information she just told him. “Gardener? What on earth does he know about it?”. He turned to the maid cleaning the kitchen floors. “Get the gardener for me!!!!”.

The maid rushed to the gardener’s room and returned breathlessly. “He has packed his things! He has gone! But he left this”. She gave him a brown envelope.

Chief Adedeji flipped open the envelope and brought out the sheet of paper in it.
