(Back at Nathan’s house)

That same night, Nathan returned home with sadness in his heart. He went to bed feeling ashamed of himself for making such a request of Caleb.

At exactly 4 am, Daniella who was still sleeping felt a tap on her shoulder that woke her up from sleep.

“Babe,” Nathan who had not shut his eyes since he returned, called tapping her on the shoulder.

“Yes?” She muttered half asleep.

“Please can you sit up? we need to talk,” Nathan said pressing a kiss on her cheek.

“By this time? Can’t it wait till later in the day?” Daniella sleepily asked.

“No sweetheart. What I’m about telling you is very important” Nathan insisted.

A few moments later, Daniella who was now fully awake, was sitting upright beside Nathan. Then yawning, she asked.

“Okay, I’m all ears now. So what do you have to tell me?” She asked yawning helplessly.

Then taking a deep breath, Nathan began.

“I’m sorry Daniella. I’m truly sorry for all the years of childlessness and the pain it has caused you” Nathan said fighting back tears.

Hearing this, Daniella reached for his hand and began rubbing the back of his palm.

“Babe, why are you doing this to yourself? Didn’t you advise me against blaming myself for my condition? So why then are you doing the same thing you told me not to do?” Daniella asked.

“Because it’s entirely my fault,” Nathan said breaking into tears.

Seeing him cry, got Daniella confused. As she didn’t know the right thing or the right words to say to him at that moment.

“Babe, why are you doing this to me? Please stop crying” Daniella said holding his cheeks in both palms.

Then slowly taking down her hands from his cheek, Nathan said,

“I have a confession to make,” He said staring into her eyes with his heart pounding faster than usual.

“Babe, I don’t like the sound of this. What’s going on?” Daniella asked with fear in her heart.

“I’m sorry. I have been keeping something from you for a long time now” Nathan began.

“I don’t understand. What are you talking about?” Daniella asked with confusion.

Then Nathan held Daniella’s hands in his. Then staring steadily into her eyes he confessed,

“Daniella, the truth is, I am the sole reason for our childlessness all these years. And that’s because I am unable to get you pregnant” He confessed.

“Come on, here you go again taking all the blames. We all know that this isn’t your fault in any way” Daniella said.

But Nathan shook his head and then with tears, he said,

“Babe, you don’t understand. I am infertile. The doctors have proven that I am suffering from secondary infertility” Nathan revealed.

Once she heard this, Daniella quickly freed her hand from Nathan’s grip with shock and disbelief.

“What did you just say?” She asked trying to confirm if she heard him right.

“Forgive me, Daniela. I am truly sorry” Nathan remorsefully apologised with his head bowed in shame.

But Daniella who was shocked beyond words, couldn’t say a word. She sat there with her jaw dropped in disbelief.

“Wait a minute,” She said trying to keep her head straight. “When did you find out about this?” She managed to ask.

“A few months after our wedding” Nathan responded with guilt In his voice.

“Oh my God!” Daniella calmly exclaimed holding her head as it was spinning.

“Babe, I know it was wrong of me to have kept such a thing from you all these years. But believe me, I really wanted to tell you about this but then, I was scared of losing you” Nathan said amidst tears.

“Nathan, so you have been the cause of my childlessness all these years yet, you watched me get ridiculed and humiliated on daily basis?” Daniella asked shooting him a look filled with shock and disbelief.

“Babe, I’m truly sorry. I really am. Please, forgive me” Nathan apologised trying to reach for her hand.

But with anger, Daniella hit his hand off and stormed out of the room slamming the door behind her.
