I got back home angry and frustrated. I don’t know that it is a crime for someone to get her fiancee a gift in Adebayo’s family. It now showed that she is no longer testing me, she don’t want us to get married. How would I do this?.

I went straight into my bedroom and locked it behind while I cried my eyes out.

In the evening

My mum came knocking at my door. I was weak and exhausted from crying for a long time. I managed to open the door.

“What happened to your face?” My mum asked sighting my swollen face.

“It’s nothing ma”.

“How can you tell me that it is nothing. I know the kind of child I gave birth to. I don’t even know that you are around yet, I just came to your door to confirm your presence. What happened my dear ?” she asked sitting on the bed.

“Mum, I am tired”.

“Tired! As how? What’s wrong?”.

“It’s Adebayo’s mum, she don’t like me at all”.

“Adebayo mum, how did you know that she don’t like you?”. She probed further.

I narrated everything to her while she sighed.

“Hmm, this is a big issue, don’t worry, she will get to like you after all his dad like you and the other members of the family may like you. Leave the issue of that your mother in law, once you are pregnant with a baby after getting married, she will get to like you”. Mum replied…

“Are you sure mum?”.

“I am sure”.

“Because I am thinking about leaving him”.

“Leaving who? Did you know your age? Won’t you get married ? Don’t try harsh thing, your dad must not hear about this. I don’t want problem” mum said standing up.

“Alright mum. I need to rest” I said while she left.

After two hours

Adebayo came visiting.

He knocked at my door while I relunctantly open the door without letting him in

“What did you want?” I asked not sparing him a glance.

“I am here to apologise on my mum behalf”.

“Must you always apologize on her behalf”.

“Please can you let me in first?”. He asked pleadingly.

“I am sorry you can’t and I don’t think we are going to continue this relationship. If you can’t tame your mother and your sister, it’s better you leave me alone”.

“You can’t continue what?” An old voice interfere and it is no one than my dad.

He walk closer to us.

“What did I just hear? You can’t continue what! I am not sure that I am the person that is your father because if I am…at your age, you would have get married, because of his family small problem, you want to ruin a relationship. They don’t born you well. Young lady be warned! You won’t use more than this year in my house” he said and left while I sighed.

Adebayo quickly went on his kneel

“Please don’t ruin this relationship, can’t you consider my love”.

“Love, love my foot! Adebayo leave me alone” I said and slammed the door at his face. I locked it from behind and jumped on the bed while tears gushed out of my eyes.

He pleaded for a while at the doorstep before leaving dejectedly.

Throughout the night, I couldn’t go out or do anything. I was weak from crying, I walked down to my wardrobe to arrange the dress that I am wearing to work tomorrow because I am resuming back.

The next day.

Mum has prepared breakfast since the old man insisted in eating his wife food.

I had dark circles around my eyes after taking my bath, I wore my cloth and drank little tea before boarding a cab to the office.

I greeted everyone before going to my office. I opened the files in my front and start reviewing it. I am so engrossed in what I am doing that I don’t know that someone is inside.

I glanced up and got frighten at who is sitting in the front of my desk.

He wore a white shirt with a navy blue suit. He is not using a tie as he smiled at me with his white teeth.

“What are you doing here?” I asked in anger.

“You blocked all my lines and even refused to chat with me. I missed you all these days. I am satisfied with seeing you now”.

“What are you doing here?” I repeated the question.

“What could I be doing here than to come for you, i missed you sweetheart and I bought these for you” he said placing a box in my front while my stomach groaned out loudly. I was embarrassed while I look away.

“You don’t need to feel embarrassed, everything you need in the box is there and dear, what happened to your eyes. It has Dark circles and is swollen. Did someone break your heart?”. He asked with a concern look

“Mr David or whatever your name is, am not ready to exchange words with you this morning as you can see that I have alot of work to attend to. If you can please excuse me and when you are going out, go with your box”.

“I know you don’t want to collect anything from me but I beg you to please take this, I mean no harm. I don’t know the reason why you treat me this way, I have always love you”.

“You know from the start that I am in a deep relationship with another man, can’t you see, we can’t be together. David please, find someone else”.

“I don’t think any other woman can capture my heart like you did Folakemi. I will wait for you” he said in sadness and left without picking up the box.

I pitied him, he keep getting closer to me for two years now. Perhaps, if I show him the warm side of me, he won’t have the choice than to leave me alone and go for someone else. He is not getting older and he is doing well in his business.

I unlocked my phone and removed his number from the blocked list. Adebayo call came in but I end it. I am just confused, I don’t know what else to do.

My stomach growled loudly again, I quickly dragged the box that David left behind and opened it. It contains alot of food with drinks. I ate quietly and gulped down the drink, I felt satisfied. I unlocked my phone and send him a “thank you” message in which he replied back with a smile emoji.

In the evening

I have packed my belongings and left the office, I met Adebayo standing outside the office beside his car. He looked up on sighting me while I pretended not to see him.

“Folakemi! He called out running to me.

“What’s the matter?”.

“I have begged you Folakemi, I don’t like the way you keep shutting me out since yesterday. I have planned to meet with my dad today and he will give out the date”.

“How does that one concern me? I am talking about your mother and younger sister”.

“My dad will settle everything please don’t leave me. I don’t get myself since yesterday” he said pleadingly.

“Excuse me young lady” someone voice interrupted, I turned to see David dressed in a casual wear, he look so ravishing while he leaned towards his car.

He move closer to us while I managed to smile at him.

“Excuse me young man” he said facing Adebayo

“Can I have a word with this beautiful lady beside you ” he said pointing at me while Adebayo faced him.

“Young man, you saw a lady with me without knowing who she is to me and the next thing is to ask about seeing her, who does that? She is my fiancee!.

“Oh! You are the Adebayo she keep mentioning all these while. I am just seeing you for the first time and I was shocked at what I see”.

“Why are you shocked? That I am better than you”.

“Better my foot! I thought you are someone cutier than me and use big car than me, I don’t know that you are…. Anyways, let me keep the remaining statement to myself”. David mockingly said.

“You can say whatever is in your mind. I don’t care about big, big stuff and who are you by the way?”.

“He is just a friend” I quickly interfere and faced David.

“David, this is my fiancee and I don’t like it if you disrespect him” I said.

“Is he the reason why you have dark circles around your eyes, baby girl, I want you. This guy can’t take care of you”.

“It seems that you are a f*ool. What’s wrong with you guys of nowadays that once you have done few rituals and have the money, you think you can snatch anyone’s fiancee anyhow”. Adebayo rant out.

“You are an idiot. Who told you that I am a young guy of nowadays. I am a big man and I am better than you in all ramfications. I make my money legitimately, who the hell are you?”.

I had to step in and can’t watch the two guys arguing with each other.

“Adebayo, let’s go” I said while we both walked to his car. I sit at the front with him.

I managed to look back and could see David sad face while Adebayo drive off…..
