Too late - S01 E33

Karen had settled herself in the house. She took over the house chores. She helps him wash his clothes, cook. She has not started looking for a job but lies everyday narrating imaginary escapade of her job hurting to Charles. In her heart, she wished to Charles to help her with a job.

“You can get me a job na. You are the Boss in your company” She told him.

“I can but Brian whom I work for and whom you worked for won’t hear it”

Karen hissed.

“I rather not work for that useless guy. I never knew he is the one you are working for”

“Brian is not useless and don’t you ever say that again” He scolded.

“God used him to bless me. You left me because of my leg and i was financially handicapped. You quickly rushed rushed to the next bus stop”

Angry, he left her and then returned.

“I accepted you because of what you said about me being your husband. I am praying. I don’t want to be a fool”

Since then, she avoids any discussion that have to do with Brian. Three months after she moved to the house, she discovered the engagement ring in Charles wardrobe. Karen was so excited. She raised the curtain to allow light flood in and sat on the bed admiring it. She has not seen such beautiful ring before.

“God has disgraced you Kam” She said in a whisper.

“You never gave me an engagement ring but just 3 months I have spent with Charles he has gotten one waiting to propose to me”

Karen kept the ring where she saw it. Every morning when she wakes, she would look at the ring and kiss it. She felt Charles had been showing signs that he is ready to do the needful. The last four Saturdays had been wonderful. He took her to the cinema and wonderful places she never knew existed in the state.

He took her shopping too. For Karen, those are good signs. Last night she almost ruined everything. After dinner, Charles entered the bathroom but was soon joined by Karen. He screamed and reaching for a towel covered himself

“Don’t you dare try such again. Please go and cover up. We are not married and should not see each other’s nakedness. Yes we did it before but not now. I am a true child of God. My life is for Jesus and I won’t mess up my salvation for pleasure of the world”

“I am sorry” She said running to the room to cover up.

In the room, she advised herself to behave well. Charles is not the person she knew before.
