(The very next morning)

Odogwu; Nwanyi Oma I don dey go farm i fit come back before evening abeg try keep food for me..

Obiageli; Dim oma that one no be problem, you get any particular soup for mind? (She said with love in her tone).

Odogwu; Mrs Cook any soup at all so far as na you cook am (he smiles).

Obiageli; (blushes) oya nau later..

(After about 2 hours…)

Ezemuo; (chants and makes incantation)

Odogwu; Wise one, the Eagle who protects us fiercely, the great mother who never sleeps.

Ezemuo; (smiling sheepishly) ..ah ah the Odogwu himself, the most bountiful farmer of Ohafia, you’re welcome.

Odogwu; Thank you wise one

Ezemuo; our people say the male cock does not crow for nothing..what brings you here?

Odogwu; hmmm (he replies rather gloomily) wise one, you must have heard that my wife has given birth again.

Ezemuo; oh yes, Mazi Uche told me when he brought yams for me..congratulations my son

Odogwu; thank you wise one but it isn’t as good as it was then..(he goes on to explain Obiageli dreams for the past nights) wise one I’m at a cross road i don’t know what to do again.

Ezemuo; (shakes his head in sympathy with him)..so what do you want me to do?

Odogwu; wise one I want two things from you..first to inquire about if Ebere has come to stay, secondly to do something about Obiageli’s dreams..

(Ezemuo stands up and move toward the shrine proper, makes incantations whilst singing and dancing at the same time..he is caught in a trance where the gods reveals only one answer to him…)

Ezemuo; Obiageli’s dreams is about her persistence to keep Ebere and untill she (Obiageli) wins the war in keeping Ebere she will never stop having those nightmares..

Odogwu; Wise one i know it is not right to question the gods but please…War? Which war? Keep Ebere? Is there a fight of ownership for ebere? Wise one but I don’t understand, can you please explain further?

Ezemuo; My son the gods are wiser than me…what they revealed to me is what I have just told you.

Odogwu; (still not understanding) ok Wise one, let me be on my way.

Ezemuo; (tries to lift up the mood) OK my son but I shall be in your home two Eke days from now so I can come and see this angel myself..I heard she’s as beautiful as her mother.

Odogwu; ( smiles) yes wise one..I will prepare my household for your visit

(Light fades…)

(Ezemuo moves around trouble clearly it shows that the gods had revealed more to him that he was willing to let on…some things that he can’t tell Odogwu and it worries him…)

Ezemuo; May what we never ask for never be found on our doorsteps…

(Light fades on him so liquoring some more)

(Later that evening)

(Odogwu goes home and couldn’t even eat the food he requested for, he felt drained as a man…he was sure the chief priest didn’t tell him everything that he ought to know…what could the chief priest know that was so heavy for him to talk about? All this and more was running through his mind as he slept for the night and as usual Obiageli’s scream woke him up in the middle of the night and tears nearly spilled out of his eyes…Obiageli was emancipation with the lack of sleep and constant fear in his mind…)

(The scene leaves him trying to find sleep again).
