Whatever Desmond was about to say was cut short by the sound of a car horn. He seemed startled, as though he had been caught doing something that wasn’t right. He looked at me one more time, with his eyes looking sad before he ran off to the gate.

I picked my bags, and took them into the house. The parlour was spacious, with enough space to serve as a ballroom. The furniture in the room was mere wooden armrests scattered all over the place with fluffy pillows placed on them. A plasma TV was hung on the wall facing the front door. It was a sparsely furnished house, but to say it was a neat one would be an understatement.

I dropped my bag, and began to look around the house, appreciating how well organized the entire place was. I climbed a stair that led to a top floor where I found two doors. I opened one, and found it was a bathroom.

I tried the other door, but found it locked.

“Why would he lock his bedroom when he’s the only one living in the house?,” I pondered aloud.

I heard some noise outside the house, and went outside. There were two vehicles parked outside. Four policemen, and two ordinary looking women were there with Desmond quarreling about something. Dinma was in their midst, quietly observing like a referee waiting for one wrong move from either parties. When she saw me, she smiled brightly, and clasped me in a tight hug.

“Lillian, this policemen here were sent by Mr Godwin to protect us, and serve as our security for now. But, they don’t like you being in the boy’s quarters. Please be a darling and tell them what you decided,”Dinma said while pretentiously acting nice.

“Madam, If you like that place, na im be say Desmond go follow us de sleep for security house. Una no suppose de sleep for one house. You be VIP, and he be ordinary driver. You gree, or you no gree?” one of the policemen asked.

I saw Desmond shake his head, and I knew something was wrong
