This is where you get to live in with Miss Dimma here,” the driver explained as he drove through the gate.

“We’re not living together. She’ll stay at the boy’s quarters with you,” Dimma said while staring me in the eye.

“But, Mr Godwin asked me..,” the driver tried intervening.

“Do you have a problem with that, Church girl?,” Dimma asked while still staring a hole through me.

I couldn’t even imagine living with a girl as horrible as the person before me, so I shook my head in response. The driver seemed to have no other thing to say as he parked the car in front of the house.

He picked the bags of clothes from the car booth, and headed for the boy’s quarter’s which was behind the main building. The building was small compared to the main building, but it was big enough to accommodate my entire family.

“This big house is the boy’s quarter’s?,” I asked in surprise.

“Yes ma, it only has one bedroom, and as the parlour is really spacious, I’ll use it from now on, while you use the bedroom,” he explained while standing at a respectful distance.

I turned to stare at him for some seconds, and realized he’d probably be my elder brother’s age.

“My name is Lillian, please stop using the” Ma” on me as you’re probably older than me. Plus you don’t have to sacrifice your bedroom for me. I’ll be okay with using your parlour,” I said while smiling warmly at him.

The look on his face showed how shocked he was at my polite response, but he nodded in acceptance.

“What’s your name?,” I asked him.

“It’s Desmond. But it’ll be best if you just called me Driver,” he replied.

“I’ll be calling you Desmond, Okay?.”

As he unlocked the door, I heard him whisper,

“You shouldn’t be here.”

“What did you say?”

He turned to me, looking surprised.

“What?”

“You said I shouldn’t be here. What do you mean by that?”

He stood, looking torn between telling me whatever was on his mind, and keeping his mouth shut.

“You’re not safe here, I…I…I think you should…”
