Rita’s POV

After four tortuous weeks, I was released from the hospital. I know you are asking why I said tortuous? Well it’s because at a point I didn’t think I was going to make it out alive. But all thanks to God I did and after four weeks I was released to return for regular checkups. On the day I was released, Charles came to pick us, me and my daughter up to take us home. He came in a blue Toyota Camry and my daughter asked him so Charles how many cars do you own? He responded well about 50. Lillian asked that many? Charles said two things I don’t joke with my food and my cars. They helped me into the vehicle and Charles drove us to a duplex on the upper eastside. I was wondering and I asked whose house is this? He said that its yours and I asked him is it a rented apartment? He said no that he bought it for us. We walked out of the car and standing before me was the most beautiful house I’ve ever seen. It had a swimming pool in front and a garden at the back. When we walked into the building proper, the first place we encountered was the living room and it was tastily furnished with 2 sets of black cushion chairs and it was painted white. Then on one side of the living room was the largest television screen I’ve ever seen. I walked into the kitchen and wow all the modern kitchen appliances which you would want were there. They included, a deep fryer, gas and electric cookers, fridge and freezer and many others. I walked out of the kitchen back to the living room and met Charles in there on the sofa and he said how do you see your new kitchen? I told him that it was lovely and he said why don’t you go and check out your bedrooms? I and my daughter Lillian went to see the bedrooms. When I walked in there, the first thing I saw was a huge king-sized bed in the middle of the room and on one side of the room was a huge dressing mirror and table and chair. On the other side was a huge closet. After seeing the bedroom, Lillian suggested we check out the bathroom and when we walked in, in the middle of the bathroom was the biggest Jacuzzi I’d ever seen on the left side of the bathroom was the toilet and on the other side was the shower cubicle and a wash hand basin. We went to all the rooms in the house and they were all the same in design including the bathroom. After touring the house, we returned to the living room and met Charles doing something on his phone. I and Lillian sat on the couch opposite him and he looked up and asked done touring the house? I and Lillian responded yes and he asked me what’s your favourite car? I told him any good car that could take me from point A to point B. After a few minutes, we heard a car horn and Charles said oh good the cars are here. When we stepped out of the house, we met two brand new cars. The delivery man who drove the car to the house asked which of you is Rita Benson? I said yes that’s me and he brought out a book for me to sign that I had taken delivery of the car. I signed it and the other delivery man said you must be Lillian? Referring to my daughter and Lillian said yes that’s me and he told her to please sign here and she did. After we had taken delivery of our cars, we walked back into the house and sat in the living room on the couches with Charles and he asked us so how do you like your new house? Lillian said I love it and added it’s the biggest I’ve ever lived in and the best part is that we have a pool. I was however quiet and Charles asked what about you? I asked him what about me? He said how do you see the house? I said that its good but it’s way too much and he told me nothing is ever too much for you. Just then we heard the door bell ring and Charles said oh the lawyer is here. I was wondering lawyer for what before he stood up and went to open the door. A young man in his mid thirty’s walked into the house. I and my daughter Lillian were seated on one of the three sitter chairs in the living room and the lawyer came in front of us and introduced himself as barrister John Smith. He said now down to business and he took a seat in front of us and brought his briefcase and placed it on the table in front of him and he said I have here opening the briefcase the documents to your new house and he said, after bringing out the papers please sign here. After signing, he handed me a copy of the document I just signed and said to keep it safe and added congratulations on the new house. I said thank you very much and he responded you’re welcome. He parked up all the papers which he just brought out from his briefcase back and locked the briefcase and stood and was about to take his leave, when Charles said john I think you are forgetting something? He said oh silly me and dipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out a credit card and he said that this card has a $500,000 limit. I was shocked to the bone and was just looking at him while he still had the card in his hand stretched out to me waiting for me to collect it. Only a slight nudge from my daughter Lillian’s elbow brought me out of my shock and I collected the card from him with both hands. Then the lawyer took his leave not before telling Lillian that she has an appointment with Diana Robinson tomorrow. After the lawyer had left the house, Charles asked so where are your sons? Lillian responded they would soon be here if you want to wait for them that would be cool. Charles checked the time on his phone and exclaimed oh look at the time! I’m supposed to be at dinner with my folks in a few minutes from now. He told me to let my sons know that he wanted to see them first thing tomorrow morning and with that he left our house. Not before telling me to go grocery shopping with the credit card which the lawyer gave me. He also added to go shopping for clothes, bags and shoes and that the next time he saw me he wanted me to look like one of those high-class New York ladies.
