••••AUTHORS POV••••••
The girl’s gaped at Vee, their eyes looking unbelievably at her.
Her words struck the girls with surprise.
” I’m dissolving the LILIES,” Vee repeated herself.
The girls looked at one another, confused and yet asking questions as at why she made that decision.
Collette sat at a corner, quiet behind her mask.
Vee began. ” I know you girls got questions. It’s alright, there’s nothing to fear. You see, I love everyone of you seated before me. In one way or the other, the LILIES had groomed you girls to become the best students in school and the country at large. But I suppose I got it all wrong when I began having an affair with well…most of you.”
There was silence. Vee stood in front of the black board, donning on jeans and an oversized polo shirt.
She continued. ” But now I’m married. Sometime ago, I didn’t think it possible for me falling in love with a man. I had hoped to divorce my husband after I got a stronghold on my mom’s school. However, plans changed. I told my husband about the LILIES. I know it’s about the most stupid things to tell him but he’s my husband and he’s been Soo good to me. I just couldn’t hold it anymore. And so I told him. Today, I’m dissolving our reading group for the sake of my husband. I want you girls to be free. Get a life, stop being depressed, get a boyfriend if you wish. I’d lost two girls once. I’m not going to lose anyone again. Now with that all said and done, I wish you girls the best life has to offer. You all will learn to forgive me for this. It’s the best for everyone. I only wish you girls understand.”
No one said a word.
Vee nodded. ” This will be our last meeting. Thank you for being my students. It’s been a pleasure. I’m sorry if you see me as a horrible person. Still, I’m glad I’m breaking your oaths. You’re all free. I pray you live the best lives out there, especially to our graduating students.”
Vee moved away from the board and began walking towards home, leaving the girls behind at the art house.
She kept walking, feeling the night breeze blowing against her face.
Her heart was pounding really hard. She couldn’t believe she had just dissolved the reading group she’d grew from scratch.
It was all for Abdul.
” Funny how love makes you do crazy things,” she closed her eyes as she approached her lodge.
The moment her hand touches the handle, the door opened by itself.
Standing before her was her husband, Abdul.
He had been waiting for her ever since she left for the meeting with her girls.
One look at her face and Abdul knew she had done it. ” How’d it go?”
Vee gave him a bitter smile. ” They’ll get over it. The girls are still dazed.”
Abdul held her hand. ” I’m Soo proud of you, baby. You just made those girls happy. Trust me, they’ll be thanking you for what you did.”
Vee gazed up at him as he brought down his lips on hers.
They remained like that outside the cold night of her doorstep.
” Come in, Vee,” Abdul gently pulled her into the room. ” I made dinner.”
” What did you make?”
” Spaghetti sauce.”
Vee leaned heavily on him. ” I’m not hungry for spaghetti.”
Abdul raised an eyebrow. ” Then what do you want?”
Vee began unbuttoning his shirt down. ” I want you.”
Abdul grinned. ” Let’s eat first. The food’s gonna run cold.”
Vee shook her head. ” We’ll eat later. For now I want you to feed me with your seed.”
” My seed?”
Vee nodded. ” I want to carry your child, baby.”
This gladdened Abdul. ” Are you sure you’re ready for this?”
Vee held the door and closed it. ” Yes. Take me to bed darling.”

Collette returned back to the hostel. It was getting to lights out and she was really tired.
Her mind was more tired than her body. She couldn’t stop thinking about Vee and the LILIES.
Everyone was free. Their oaths has been broken.
But wasn’t she supposed to feel happy about this? Wasn’t this what she wanted?
Somehow it hurts. It hurts to see the LILIES tear apart. She remembered how she had first started at the LILIES.
If it weren’t for Vee’s reading group, she wouldn’t be where she was right now. She’d have long switched schools.
She was intelligent, she was pretty, she was smart. It was all thanks to the LILIES.
If only Efua was alive to witness tonight.
Collette kept walking towards the door of her room. Her mind was thankful but her soul wouldn’t rest.
Just as she was reaching out for her door, a voice called her from behind.
” Senior, senior.”
Turning around, she saw a girl running down the passage towards her.
She recognized her as Sharon, Lucy’s best friend.
Sharon stopped before her, breathing heavily. ” Good evening, president.”
” Evening,” Collette replied, eyeing her closly. ” You’re Sharon, right?”
Sharon nodded. ” Yes, senior. You may recognize me as Lucy’s friend.”
Collette frowned.
This girl standing before her has the guts to smuggle her boyfriend to school.
Ever since her return, she had sat down to strategize on the best way to get Sharon out of school without implicating Lucy.
Despite her anger and desire to get Sharon expelled, she was more afraid for Lucy.
A threat from a Cultists isn’t child’s play. She don’t know who this Bobby was or his capabilities.
Lucy’s safety first before anything else.
” How can I help you, Sharon?” Collette asked.
Sharon was fidgeting and Collette was quick to see brusies on her cheeks. Even her hand seemed dislocated except Sharon made it look like it wasn’t harmed.
But Collette’s eyes were as sharp as a hawk.
One look at Sharon and she knew this girl had been beaten.
Beaten? But by who?
Sharon’s voice croaked. ” Senior, there’s something I want to tell you.”
Collette waited. ” Go on.”
Sharon looked behind her. ” Not here, can I speak to you in your room?”
Collette didn’t want this girl in her room but since it was just going to be the two of them, she opened the door and let her in.
Sharon sat on the chair while Collette stood over her. Arms folded.
” Now what do you want to talk to me about?”
Sharon still looked nervous. She licked her lips. ” Senior Collette.”
Collette said nothing.
Sharon looked behind her at the door. ” Senior, I’m in danger.”
Collette looked around the room. She was quick to notice a faint of cigarette smoke lingering the air.
” What trouble?”
Sharon began crying. ” Senior Collette. I…I have a confession to make.”
Collette was still uncomfortable with the cigarette smoke lingering the air.
” Sharon, did you smoke?”
Sharon shook her head quickly. ” He wants to kill me, president.”
Collette felt an alarm blowing at the back of her mind.
” Kill you? Who wants to kill you?”
Sharon was speaking faster. ” My boyfriend. He… he’s after me now.”
The smell of cigarette was now Soo strong Collette began moving away from Sharon.
” Your boyfriend? Where…. where’s he?”
” I’m over here!” Came a deep voice from the doorway.
Both Sharon and Collette stiffened as they turned sharply to the door.
Standing by the doorway was a girl in a pyjamas. She was smoking a cigarette and had dagger in one hand.
Collette froze at the sight of the knife. It was Soo long and dangerously glittering.
Sharon shouted, tumbled over her chair as she crawled away from fright at the girl in the dark shadows.
Bobby let smoke out from his nostrils. He showed his teeth at Collette.
” Hello, Collette.”
It was at that moment Collette knew this wasn’t a girl.
It was a boy.
Sharon’s boyfriend…. Bobby.
