The Lion’s Den - S01 E17

Edmond stood there watching as his minda behaved like it had stopped working. When one man who was there noticed that he was there, he went and tapped him telling him to also do something as the house was on fire.

“Oh yes my house is on fire” Edmond answered really absent minded.

In a split second, he then rushed directly into the house. People tried to hold him but the impulse speed he was running at made it difficult for them to hold him. Edmond got inside with a target of just getting a backpack which was hanged on the left side of his bedroom. He struggled through the smoke and fire till he got to the bedroom. Upon checking where the bag was, it was no longer there. He tried to search were hecelt it could have fallen on but there was nothing similar to the bag. Knowing that his only remaining amount of money was in that backpack, he felt so weak that he sat down in that house of smoke. He started slowly running out of breath and getting choked. This went on till he got unconscious.

Edmond woke up coughing in that bed as he slowly opened his eyes. He realized that he was in a room with a lot of other beds. He looked around and noticed a couple of people sitted on their beds looking at him. When he turned to his right hand side, he saw a familiar feminine face and realised that it was Agatha.

“What are you doing here?” He asked.

“I came to be by your bedside. No one could come.” Agatha replied.

“Get out of here! Why can’t you listen for once. You and I have nothing together. We are divorced. Leave me alone” he shouted making other patients and people draw their attention to him.

Agatha stood up and looked at Edmond as tears ran down her face.

“You are the father of my children, that’s why I came to you. I don’t want my children to have no father. Anyway, if you don’t want me near you, I won’t come back again. Goodbye Edmond” she said then making her way out.

The man sitted on the next bed on his left hand was busy looking at what was happening. When Agatha got out of the room, the man opened his mouth talking to Edmond.

“She is a good. She loves you. I would suggest you take her back before you lose her for good” he said.

Edmond was really disgusted with those words such that he turned his face and faced the other side.

Outside where Agatha was going, a certain lady in her fifties stopped her. The woman was their in the hospital ward where she had been shouted from.

“Am sorry to stop you but I need to say you are a good woman and God will surely repay you.” Said the woman. Shared on whatsapp by Martino.

“Thank you ma”

“And I just have something to tell you, if you really got dicorced, just accept that and move on. As long as he brings child support dont mind him. You won’t heal if you keep on following him. You are a beautiful young woman. There is still a lot in stock for you” the woman said.

“Thank you so much. I have heard” Agatha said

They then parted ways each heading to her own direction. Agatha was surprised with that stranger’s advice though it was very good to her ears. She knew that not accepting the reality won’t help her in moving on.

A DAY LATER

Edmond was discharged from the hospital as he was stable. He called Mark to go and pick him up from the hospital. And the friend quickly did as told a he was the one keeping his car whilst in hospital.

Mark drove Edmond’s car slowly away from the hospital. Mark who was taking him to his house made it clear to him that they were going to his house.

“No, let’s go to my place. I need to get some stuff” Edmond insisted.

Mark drove to the house and found the house in dilapidated state from the fire. He slowly got out of the car and walked towards the button house. He entered and noticed that everything had been burnt to ashes. Not wanting to grieve his soul any longer, he walked out heading to the car to leave. Just then the neighbor he was rude to sometime back popped up telling him that he had something for him.

The neighbor then called him to his house where he found some stuff which had been rescued from the fire. He looked at the little stuff piled up in that room of the neighbor. He was glad to see the backpack which had almost cost him his life also there. He got it and thanked the neighbor. He also told him that all the remaining stuff will be collected by his ex wife Agatha.

Edmond started staying at Mark’s place as he had no where to stay. His life was still in haywire as he had no slightest idea of how he was supposed to lead it after the fire. Things were not also yet stable for mark since the burning of his gym. He was still surviving on the little money he had saved prior to the fire incident.

On this Saturday early evening, Edmond and Mark were sitted outside a cafe in town. They really had nothing to do there as they were just waiting for time to go so that they could go home. The town was slowly becoming silent as people were all heading to their homes and the environment becoming dark by each incoming second.

“Things are really difficult for us Edmond. It was as if fire was the one meant to destroy us.” Mark said.

“It’s really sad. I don’t know if things will stabilise”

Just then a woman in her thirties came near where they were and started peeping into the cafe. She was looking at the table where there was a man and a woman eating and laughing.

“These fools.” The woman said as she looked around.

She then walked to where mark and Edmond were sitted.

“Excuse me” said the lady.

“Yes” answered mark.

“Here is K2,000, you can have it. All I need is you to go and beat up that man and lady sitted at that table.” Said the woman then putting 20 K100 notes on the table where mark and Edmond had sat outside.

The two gentlemen looked at the money and not believing that there could be such an offer in this world. They both remembered that the only money which both of them had when put together was K200 and they were in serious need of money. Mark had to settle those people who were claiming their gym subscriptions while Edmond had a lot to sort out his money with. From shelter, clothing to all the basic needs.

“Are you not interested? Okay, I will add a K500” said the lady putting another bunch of 5 k100 notes making the offer K2,500.
