The Lion’s Den - S01 E12

Agatha had been surprised the whole day with the way Edmond had been acting towards her that day. It was very unusual of him to act that mean towards her. So hearing that he wanted to talk about something with her, she got worried as she imagined that the topic of discussion was all about her.

She slowly sat down really worried thinking that maybe he had heard about him and the chairman. She couldn’t sit comfortably but sat with timing ready for anything.

“Agatha, I don’t even know how to start going about this but I seriously need your help.” He said calmly.

“Okay, tell me” she said still not comfortable.

“There is this friend of mine who is asking for my advice. He had been very faithful to his wife from the word go but it has happened that the husband has been found with gonorrhea. Now he is asking me to help him reason where they disease could have come from” said Edmond calmly though real hurting inside.

Hearing that the issue was not on her but on the friend to him, Agatha felt relieved such that she even gave a deep sigh of relief. She felt peace over come her at that moment.

“Oh it’s about his friend” she thought to herself.

“In that a situation, if the husband knows that he had been all round faithful, then it’s the wife who knows where the disease had come from”

“And if the wife denies?”

“Women can be smart sometimes. If he knows that he is faithful, no matter what the wife says, she is the one who had brought it. Babe sometimes women cheat and it takes a lot of effort for her husband to know it” did Agatha really absorbed into the discussion.

“Mmmm but won’t it be fair to accuse the wife” he asked.

“Babe, she knows the source of the disease” Agatha said standing up.

“Don’t go yet, we are now about to start talking.”

“Talking?”

“Yes. That friend is me and the wife is you”

“What?”

“I am the one with the disease though I have been so faithful to you. And just like you have said, you are the one who knows where you go it, so kindly tell me where you got it?”

Agatha sat there with her face slowly turning blue due to how things had turned out in such a small instance. She had no clue that that situation could be on her and Edmond. She continued looking at him without blinking as the emotions in her were just so much.

“Agatha,dont just look at me, tell me before I lose my temper” Edmond said.

“What?” Agatha asked in a low voice though not really expecting an answer.

“I have been the best husband I could be for you and this is how you appreciate me?”

“What?”

“Why are you just saying ‘what!’ ‘what!’? I need answers.” Edmond shouted on top of his voice.

At that moment, Agatha slowly fell on the bed facing up. It was like the emotions in her were very strong that she could not handle them.

“Agatha! I won’t fall for this drama”

Edmond went on talking unleashing the anger he had in him and saying a lot of bad words assuming that she was listening. In that heat of anger, he decided to shake her. It was then that he realised that she had passed out. He started shaking her and calling her but she lay there helplessly.

He got a fan and turned it on to create a breeze of fresh air for her but to no avail. Edmond then quickly carried her and took her to the car. He then called on the neighbor to check on his kids as he drove off to the clinic.

“Her BP shot no wonder she fell down” said the clinician.

“But she has no history of BP”

“This is how BP starts. Did she receive any news so overwhelming that she went into this state?”

“Am not too sure”

“Okay, we will admit her here and observe her”

“Okay”

Edmond then called the sister to Agatha to let her know about the state of issues. He then sat on the bed side as she looked at her elongated and fair skined innocent face lying on that bed. She was the woman who really caught both his heart and eye. She was beautiful with a lot of amazing qualities in a woman. The calmness and how the level of integrity was exhibited in her, it was very unlikely that she could do such a thing. Edmond then held her hand with both hands.

“Why Agatha?” He asked softly as tears gathered in his eyes.

He remembered those moments when he was chasing her and how they slowly started falling in love. He went on recalling how they made a promise to each to remain faithful no matter what the circumstances they find themselves in.

“Mulamu” he heard a famine voice calling him.

It was then that he realised that the sister to Agatha had got to where he was. He sat up and exchanged pleasantries with her. He then went on explaining how she got to the hospital. In his explanation he just mentioned that they were chatting and she just felt down.

“That’s really sad, you can go and spend a night with the children. I will remain on the bedside with her.” said the sister in law.

Edmond insisted on spending the night on the bedside but the sister went on reasoning with him that he goes. Finally, he went back home to spend a night with the children.

Back there at the hospital, Agatha finally gained consciousness only to find herself in the hospital with her sister beside her. She immediately started crying seeing she was in the hospital.

“Agatha, why are you crying?” The sister asked.

“So Edmond beat me up to the point of being hospitalised?” Agatha said.

“Beating you? What are you talking about?”

“He beat me.”

“For what? And where did he beat you? You don’t look beaten”

Agatha then looked at herself and noticed that everything on her was intact without any bruise or bandage. She wondered what had happened for her to find herself there.

“What happened to me?” Agatha asked

“You passed out. Your BP shot too high”

“Oooooh okay”

“What happened?”.

Agatha then looked down not knowing even where to start from narrating the issue to her sister. As it had dawned on her that the fact of being caught had made her BP to shoot, she had nothing to hide but seek for advice from her elder sister.

“Am in deep mess sissy” Agatha said.

“What mess?”

Agatha then started explaining everything from the chairman issue to the butcher’s escapede till he got to where it had dawned on her that Edmond had been infected with the disease by her. She further explained that she had not yet said anything confirming or denying infecting him as she had passed out.

“Agatha you are a disgrace to our family. You know how our mother taught not to stooo so low for money. Tell me why I shouldn’t call you a prostitute? You have intercourse one exchange for money. Am disappointed.” The sister said

“Am also dissapointed with myself due to what I did. But please help me”

“I can’t help you in any way but all I can say is there is a small house near my place where you can rent”

“Rent? Rent for what?”

“When your husband chases you out, you will stay there ”

“Dont talk like this”

“Oh so you want me to say ‘oh no, he will hug you and love you’ huh? You are going. You will learn a lesson”

The sister to Agatha did not even want to side with her or do anything that would have made her feel like she was on a right track. The sister had been wanting to get married, so she was really angry that her young sister was messing up her marriage .

“Sissy, I know that what I did is wrong but what advice are out going to give me as your sister?”

“Nothing. Just accept being wrong and be responsible for the consequences” she said.

On the next day morning, Agatha was discharged from the hospital. She couldn’t gatehr courage to call Edmond to go and pick her up as she was not ready to face him. She started pestering her sister so that they could go together to her home.

“You have your own home. Call your husband to come and pick you up. Face what you started.” The sister who was obviously pissed with the issue said.

The sister even called Edmond to go and pick her up at the hospital.

In no time Edmond came and picked Agatha then went with her to their home. There was total silence in the vehicle as they went home. No single word was uttered to each of them by any of them. It was so awkward and it was all clear that there will be a lot of talking at home.

They finally got home at which Agatha went directly to the bedroom. Edmond then came into the bedroom as well. He stood there and looked at her sitted on the bed.

“How are you feeling?” He asked.

“Am better, thank you”

“It’s okay. We need to finish our discussion” he said.

“Edmond, u am not really fine. Allow me days to pass on and then we can talk later. Do you want my BP to shoot again?”

“What? Even if your BP shoots and you die, I wouldn’t care. We will talk about it as long as you are here. You think am your fool.”

“I didn’t say that,am just saying that am.not ok”

“We will talk right now or else I will kill you and then kill my self” he said angrily as he threw the car keys down.
