The Lion’s Den - S01 E08

The mention of having the video circulate brought shivers to Agatha. She remembered one time when one married lady’s nude pictures circulated on social media, it was very embarrassing to the lady. Now imagining a video, not pictures, of her circulating on the internet, it would have been so sad. She imagined what her husband would do and also what people who knew her would say to her.

“Please, I can’t do that. You are a friend to my husband and doing this will be wrong to him” she pleaded.

“Oh so to me it’s wrong but the chairman is right?”

“You don’t understand me. What am saying is that…. Anyway please”

“There is no use of you pleading. Just do what I have said. Actually go and think about it then tomorrow come” he said.

Before she could say anything, a customer entered the butcher’s store. This made Agatha to leave without saying anything. She was so absent minded that she did not even pay attention to what was on the ground. She even stepped into a pond of water which made her feet so dirty dark.

At home, Edmond knew that there was something that was bothering his wife though she was not opening up to him. The fact that she said that she was being bothered with their financial problems and the stealing of his last salary, he still felt there was something more to her worried face. Not wanting to trouble her a lot, he decided to let her be so that she can open up to him at her opportune time.

Early in the morning of the next day, Edmond received a call from his friend mark that his gym had caught fire. He immediately woke up and drove to where the gym was. He couldn’t believe seeing a previously well built and strong building lying down in ruins. What made it even more difficult to understand what had happened was the fact that the building was built of bricks and metal.

Edmond walked to where mark was making a statement to detectives who had come there to find out more about the damage of the gym. He stood aside as the detectives went on talking to him. When they were done, Edmond tapped his friend’s shoulder to draw his attention to him.

“Am really sorry man” Edmond said.

“Thanks bro”

“What really happened?”

“I am also failing to understand how this happened”

“What did the detectives say?”

“They said that there is a chance of bombs blowing up the building.”

“Bombs? Do you have anyone in mind who could have done that?”

“Not really. Anyway, let’s wait for the detectives to do their jobs.”

“Yeah, anyway, it’s good that the gym was insured.”

“The insurance expired a month ago and I didn’t renew it”

“D--n!”

Agatha sat there at he stand thinking of how she was going to sort out her mess with the butcher. Seeing that no straight forward and sensible idea came to her mind, she decided to seek for advice from her friend Grenda. She left the stand in the care of the boy she worked with and went to where Grenda sold from.

Grenda was surprised to see her there as she was not picking her calls saying they were irritating. Agatha sat next to her so that whatever they could talk about could not be heard by other people around.

“Grenda, I am in big mess and I seriously need your help”

“Okay, tell me what it is”

Agatha then went on pouring out what was bothering her starting from her cheating on her husband to the worst blackmail coming from the butcher. She went on telling her that the emergent problem which needed immediate attention was the one from the butcher.

“It’s simple but we really need to be careful because I know what that man is capable of doing.”

“Yes what should I do?”

“Firstly, forget about sleeping with him. Don’t allow him no matter whatm make up your mind on that.”

“Okay”

“Secondly, we can also blackmail him.”

“How?”

Grenda went on explaining she thought would be the best way to blackmail the butcher so as to leave her alone. Agatha was already into the idea and she love it so much such that she wanted it to be implemented the same day.

“Please help me and I will never forget it” Agatha did going back to her stand.

After knocking off from the market, Agatha hurriedly walked home in order to prepare supper. As she walked passed the butcher’s store, she walked quickly so as not to be seen by him. Little did she know that the butcher was in front of her coming from his place and his worker was in the store.

“Oh so you did not want to pass by my shop today?”

“Please, I am really busy. Excuse me”

“Don’t act like there is nothing we have to discuss.”

“There is nothing to discuss.”

“Listen to me, i am coming to show the video to your husband tomorrow.” the butcher said then walking on.

Agatha stood there looking him and then walked on too heading home. Before getting home, she called Grenda to tell her about what the butcher had said.

“No,he must be trying to make you compromise your stance. He can’t do it”

“What if he does it?”

“Look,the chairman is his friend so he can’t put his friend in a fix for his benefit. And by doing that, he may also put himself in a situation which would prompt the revealing of his true motive about you”

“Okay, but please implement that plan”

“Count on me darling. I will teach him a lesson.”

“Okay”

The next day which was a Saturday, Agatha decided to stay home as she saw it a danger to go to the market as at intervals got absent minded putting her at a risk of being hit by a car.

Around 3pm in the afternoon, she was sitted in the living room watching a series on television while Edmond was busy changing oil of his car outside. Agatha then heard her husband calling her to bring a chair for the visitor who had come. She then got a plastic garden chair and walked outside to where Edmond was. Upon seeing that the visitor was the butcher, the chair fell down from her hands as she started shivering. It was all clear that the butcher had come to do what he had promised to do. Telling her husband about everything.

“I can’t wait to sit down so that I tell you a chi fire story I have for you. I just hope there won’t be war after it” said the butcher to Edmond making sure that Agatha heard.
