Suicidal Attempt

To run away from trouble is a form of cowardice and while it is true that the suicide braves death, he does it not for some noble objective but to escape some ill.

– Aristotle

{Sarah’s Point of view}

I poured the rat poison into a fruit juice and opened my mouth to drink it. Then my Mobile phone rang. I glanced at the screen. It was my Father. At first, I wanted to ignore his call, but curiosity took the greater part of me and I picked the call.

My father: Sarah, where are you?

Me: I’m in the house.

My Father: I have some___”

My phone battery ran low, and the phone went off. I threw the phone away in anger. Glancing at the cup , I prayed, “lord, Forgive me” and without hesitation drunk the poisoned fruit juice. Two minutes later, the result was eminent. I felt some excruciating pains in my abdomen and screamed. Darkness began to engulf me as the rat poison burnt through my intestines. The surrounding became darker. Suddenly, I saw the angel of death clad in dark clothes emerging from the thick canvas of darkness. He embraced me with a smile. The darkness swallowed me, and I sank into a great abyss, deeper and deeper with the angel smiling and holding me firm until we were completely engulfed in the darkness into eternity where there is nothingness. The black angel took me through a long winding pitch dark channel. It was hard to describe it, as we were always surrounded by something wherever we go.

Suddenly in this vast nothing was a blinding pinprick of light that got larger. Either I was moving towards it, or it was moving towards me. As it got closer, what appeared to be a single light resolved into millions upon millions of stars of all shapes, sizes, and colours, along with tons of nebulae. “It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

As I approached the centre, it seemed like I was joining a universal consciousness; a being made up of the thoughts, emotions, and experience of everyone and everything that had ever lived.

The Angel left me at a particular spot. I turned round and saw a multitude of people in a single file. I joined the queue. There was a fearsome angel on a throne above us. He looked really scary, flashy eyes, Piercy teeth, clad in black, all bones. He asked me to step forward. I was afraid but stepped forward.

< Third Person’s POV>

Stephen had a premonition that Something bad had happened to Sarah. He stepped on his accelerator. The car surged forward like an angry ram. He drove the car as if he was being chased by a dinosaur. His intuition was reinforced by the fact that Sarah’s line went off while they were conversing. To him, it was unusual.

Luckily, traffic was not heavy in Accra. After escaping the light traffic, he turned round the 37 lane and headed towards Airport Residential area.

When he reached home, the door to Sarah’s room was locked from the inside, which meant Sarah was in there. He started knocking on the door but Sarah didn’t respond. His other two daughters were not around. They have gone to their sister Rhoda, on a holiday.

He kept knocking hard on the door while calling out her name but still, there was no response from Sarah. Fear took over his heart. Then he remembered he always keep a spare key, hidden cleverly under a carpet adjacent the garage, in the storeroom.

He rushed into the storeroom and retrieved the key. Opening the door, he rushed inside without waiting for a second. His eyes met a horrid and frightening scene . Sarah was on the floor, unconscious, her hands were firmly holding a cup from which some fruit juice spilled onto the floor.

He immediately knew what had happened, so he went down on her and checked for a pulse. He held her wrist, checked her neck for any sign of life. Cold chills blew down his spine when he saw her suicide note. He showed the note to Lucy saying, ” have you seen what you have caused? “She pleaded, “I’m sorry, Stephen, please, forgive me.”He quickly dialed the Ghana Ambulance service code.
