Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 39

My mouth was ajar for more than 3mins as the reality of whats happening began to rent an apartment inside my brain. I became cluelessly apprehensive at that awkard moment

I glanced over at Nike, she seems unperturbed with the blank look on her oval face

I was instantly forced to ask myself ‘am i madt?’

With the rate at which cryptical events are occuring in my life right now, i won’t be suprised if my heart suddenly stops pumping blood.

I recorvered from the shock after few minutes of the horrendous situation. I rose up gently. My eyes focused on Joke’s face

“erm…Joke, am afraid i might easily lose my sanity if you don’t tell me how you mystically transformed from being a wheelchair user some minutes ago to being a walking breathing miracle right now!” i screamed out in utter curiousity

“its normal you feel that way Darous, my mum always say that, Curiousity is an admirable trait. The truth is i’ve never for once been unable to walk in my life. It was just a necessary prerequisite act to pave way for something more liberating.” she said with a nonchallant look

“liberating? You can’t be serious Joke, you’ve spent the last two years of your life on a wheelchair when your legs are perfectly fine? Its like you have a very loose definition of Liberating.” i stated with emphasis on the last word

“why don’t you sit down and let her pilot your mind to an acute destination of understanding?” Nike accosted me. I heaved a deep sigh and sat down on the couch

Joke placed the stool adjacent to my position and sat on it

“you see Darous, in life, things aren’t always black and white, there are times you have to wander into the grey area and you have to do what is best, not only for yourself alone but for everyone you love.” the situation became more ambiguous with those words. She proceeded. “it all began three years ago when my dad became a total sot..”

“a what? A sot?” i cut in as her last word became difficult to comprehend

“yes a sot..he became an habitual drunkard” Nike illumined

“hmmm..this is deep….ok..please continue Joke”.

“everytime he comes home, he always beat up my mum and anyone of us that tries to intrude also gets beaten too. This went on for more than eight months before the antecedent that led me to live a crippled life for close to two years now.” she narrated acridly. I could see her eyes weiling up in tears as she continued

“my dad came home on that fateful day, drunk as usual around 11pm, we were all asleep. All of a sudden, i started hearing sounds of commotion coming from our parents room. I ran there as fast as i could only to find my dad holding a table knife, threatening to slay my mum if she doesn’t allow him to have sex with her.” she wiped the tears that were starting to form in her beautiful eyes with the back of her hands. She sniffed and was about to continue when i interrupted

“erm Joke, you can stop if you don’t feel comfortable sharing this complicated mysery..i promise not to be sceptical if you do.”

“no..don’t worry, am perfectly fine… Its just that, unravelling what’s been buried a long time ago is taking its abhorred toll on my emotions”. She said. I nodded and fold my arms in akimbo as she prepared to continue.

“my mum rushed at him and he impaled the knife in her stomach. I ran inside towards my mum, but my dad held me up, carried me to the lobby where he flung me down this spiral stairs.” she said pointing to the stairs that connects the large living room with the upper chambers.” i woke up 6days later in the hospital bed. my mum spent almost four months on the hospital bed before she regained conciousness. Her lawyer filed a case against my dad but his lawyer defended the allegation saying that my dad was suffering from autism…a..a mental disorder that can prevent proper response to one’s environment…My dad was sent to the neuropsychriatic hospital where he was kept on probation for three months. During his probatory period, my mum and her lawyer began tobegan to devise a plan to file for divorce. I was indulged in the plan and i altruismly promised to help my mum. I was presented at the court as a victim of my dads behaviours in a wheel chair. Although nothing was wrong with my legs. The court accepted our charges based on human right rules and annulled my parents wedding just few months ago. My dad was released after the case and our lawyer informed me to maintain the act for atleast two more years so as to avoid any unexpected predicaments…that was why you saw me on the wheelchair the first day of your visit…But how my mum and her lawyer managed to get an authenticated medical report backing up my falsified crippled situation still remains a mysery to me. Only my mum, her lawyer, you and Nike, plus me are aware of this revelation, and i hope you help us maintain the secrecy circus.” she ended conclusively

“i wish it were that simple!” lamented a voice from the stairs. Guess who? It was their mum
