Countless - S01 E38 (Story Episode)

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 38

The door suddenly flew open and we both directed our gaze towards it, only to see the panting figure of Nike coming inside

“ple..ase..you have to come and help me, i can’t separate….them” She said sniffing, and trying to pursue her breath

She doesn’t have to say it twice, as i discharged myself hurriedly from the room and ran towards the living room

I got to the living room only to find a man on top of Joke’s mum trying to smother her as she was wriggling desperately to get away from him. He was covered in sweat

I hate seeing things like this, only a senseless man will try to kill a defenseless woman, not to talk of his wife. Had it been shango had not fvcked up, his factory reset Thunder might just come in handy right now

In what seems like a flash, i ran towards them and tried to hurl the man away from Joke’s mum. But he was much more aware of my intentions than my calculation as he send a jaw cutting elbow to my lower right cheeks. I felt a very excrutiating pain surge through my mouth as i staggered backwards to get a foothold on the marble floor

I watched him try to land a heavy slap on her face but she ducked her head sideways and his hand flew in thin air. I siezed the opportunity to calculate my next move as i rushed towards him like a gustling wind and give him a heavy kick in his lower region that sends him sprawling on the floor.

Nike quickly walked towards her mum and helped her to her feet. She was very weak and her face was covered in tiny bruises.

“you absolute fool!” she groaned after getting up. “you gonna pay for this, you want to kill me? Because of the courts judgement?,..”she paused again to arrest her breath “i’ve given you my life, my mo..ney, my..body, and yet you still want to hurt me by bringing your illegitimate daughter to this house? Thats not gonna happen…I said i’ve had enough of your wayward life..go ahead and be with your mistress and child..just leave me and my daughters alone!…you this absolute idiotic idiot” she cursed out angrily at her husband

Nike wrapped are arms around her mum sobbing and trying to pacify her

“its…ok mum, just leave….him alone” Nike said amid gentle sobs

The man gently rose up and tried to run towards her, but i quickly intervened.

“oh..oh..i wouldn’t try that again sir if i were you…please just respect yourself sir” i said with a hoarse voice and stern looks

I think he was a bit intimidated with my height and muscle as he slowly backed away and shifted his gaze towards the mother and child, he returned his furious gaze to my face and lashed out

“and who do you think you are? To be giving me orders in my wife’s house? Eh!”. He snarled

I was about to seize the opportunity he gave me with his statement by revealing the true identity of the owner of the house when Joke’s mum interrupted

“he’s my new boy friend John! And he has every right to defend me! Because he’s proven to be much more better than what you could have ever been! Stick that to your unstabled brain!” she fired what seems like the most absurd statement of the year at him

To say he was dumbstruck, would have been the most outrageous understatement ever used by any Arsenal fan to describe the look on Arsene wenger’s face when he received the sack letter in January of that year. Thats just a typical of the kind of look on the face of this man called John as the effects of Joke’s mums words settled majestically in his brain

“your..your…what?” he asked with a serious confused look.”you can’t be serious! We might be divorced but that doesn’t give you any rights to date a..a playboy like this idiot here!” he barked pointing his fingers at me

“watch your tongue sir, don’t ever call me an idiot again! Or else…”i stated slightly upset

“or else what?…go on finish it…” he said wryly

I only hissed at him and shook my head before he backed away. He gave Joke’s mum a disgusting look

“you will all pay for this! You count on it!” he threatened as he headed towards towards the exit. Few seconds later we heard the gate open and gave out a loud bang later

I hurried outside to lock the gate and came back inside to join Nike to escort their mum to her room upstairs

“i wanted to say thank you for helping me back there but…but the words seems too small Darous… Thank you.” Joke’s mum said as we helped her get on the bed after Nike had helped her nurse her bruises. Nike pulled the blankets on her and laid beside her

“its nothing maam..am really glad that i could be of help” I said with a feral grin

“ok dear, we talk tomorrow, i need to be alone now…goodnight”. She said tiredly

Nike and I headed back to the sitting room. Joke have managed to wheel herself back there.

“your cheeks? does it hurts?” Nike asked with a concerned tone as we sat down

“nothing hurts more than seeing your parents fight eachother…trust me i know how it feels.” I said

“well, welcome to the family” Joke said smiling.

I sat down on the couch. Nike helped her sister to the three sitter sofa close to mine. An indian film titled Married Again was on display on the screen of the giant plasma t.v

Everybody’s attention was subscribed to the film which was really interesting until the PHCN did their trademark

Nike directed me to the Gen-house where i powered up the gen. The time was past eleven by the time i returned to the sitting room

Nike marched towards the kitchen. I watched her hour glass physique entered and came back few mins later with two dishes in her hands. Each containing semo and ugwu soup with meats. She set it down on the small stool beside me

“how do you know that am feeling hungry?”

“i don’t know, but since its past dinner already, you have to eat.” she replied as she approached the freezer and came back with a chilled table water

She sat down beside Joke and both returned their attention to the film.

I began to devour the food hungrily. Twenty minutes later, i was through with the food. Nike cleared the dishes and came back to sit beside her sister

“thank you so much again Uncle Darous for everything.” Nike said flashing me her beautiful dentition

“you don’t have to thank me for anything! There’s nothing special in what i did for you guys. I only did what any other sane human being would have done!” I paused, “Please stop making an ordinary F.A cup trophy look like a Champions league jare..” I concluded feigning a frown

“alright…if you say so” Joke said with a feral grin

As the film went on, I began to reminisce about the recent events that took turns in my life. It seems like i just accepted a friend request from Trouble itself.

Why’s my life turning out like this? Threats upon threats? Some random guys wanna kill me? Now another psychotic father is threatning me again? Gawd of thunder…whats going on with me?

I need to know the root of whats happening

I took the remote control and paused the film to download the ladies attention

“erm..ladies, i think you both just welcomed me to the family..thanks for that.. but apparently, i still feel like a total stranger to you guys. Now i think you should atleast tell me what the whole APC vs PDP was all about!.”

Joke and Nike both exchange glances. I waited for them to speak up, but when i realised that they weren’t ready to speak, i hit a sledge hammer on the silence

“you guys should first of all know that, am now practically a part of this issue….reason is, your mum just introduce me to your dad as her….hmmmm…you know, her boy….fri..end.” i stammered and paused to check the signals of their reactions, getting none, i proceeded “Secondly, he just threatened us all. So i think its just reasonable enough of me to want to know the book of Genesis of this issue so that i can be prepared for what to expect in its book of Revelation if i don’t want to end up in amaggedon!” i said drawing breath on the last word

They exchanged glances again, and both returned their stares at me. The silence and stares was prolonged to almost two minutes before Nike spoke up

“Big sis,” she said facing her sister ” i think he’s right. He has a right to know.”

“i know, but what about mum? Will she feel ok with us telling him?” she asked Nike rhetorically with a confused look

“you think your mum will be upset you told me about what i deserve to know? Then what happen to ‘welcome to the family’? Joke?” i was starting to feel exasperated

“no..don’t get me wrong dear, not that we can’t tell you. But…i just think you should exercise a little patience. You will get to know sooner or later”. She explained

“and when will that later be? Is it when your dad gets even with our collective ugly asses? Eh?…i have a pro-mess already with some crazy idiots that wants to kill me, and now am probably on top of your dads most wanted list!….right now, all i can feel is like, everybody have signed a contract with the devil to take ruining my life as a full time job!” i paused to catch my breath. Their faces portrays a confused look. “ladies, am sorry if am being too obstinate or paranoid….I just don’t have the luxury of time and patience right now!” i lamented with a great feeling of exasperation

Joke buried her head in her palms and, for one sec, i thought she was crying. She looked up and heaved a deep sigh

“you want to know everything? Then you have to swear to me that, none of it will ever be blabbed to any other person by you”. Joke stated subtly

“i crossed my heart and hope to die if i ever attempt to say any of it to anyone”. I declared solemnly with the sign of the cross

“fair enough…Darous, our family was the most happiest one on earth until two years ago when i had to start living a fake life”. Joke stated mystically

“fa..ke life?” i questioned

I watched in total awe as Joke rose up gently and stood firmly on her feet

I was left in total bewilderment!
