Secondary - Season 2 - Episode 16

Eunice: ” Mummy stop crying ” she said though she was also crying. I went to where Desmond was sitting and patted him on his shoulder.


Me:” Big boy, go and sleep” I told him as I tried to stop my tears.


Desmond:” Gabriel, why is my mummy crying?” He asked and I started crying again. I carried him up from the chair and took him to his bed in my parents room.


Me:” Mummy is not crying, her eyes is just paining her” I lied.


Desmond:” Let me go and tell her sorry ” he said trying to stand up from the bed but I held him back.


Me:” Don’t worry it has gone” I said to him while he nodded although am sure he didn’t believe me, at five years he happens to be very smart. I walked back to the sitting room and met my still crying.


Me:” Mom is okay ” I said as I wrapped my hands around her shoulder.


Me:” We don’t even know what has happened to him and we are just crying.” I said


Me:” Maybe he is even fine” I said hoping to console them but no one seemed to be listening to me.


Mom:” Let me call your brother, Joshua.” She said after a while, she picked her phone and dialed his number but it was also switched off.

Mom:” God please let him just be fine” she prayed as she tried drying her tears. I turned to Cynthia, she was already sleeping, she slept off while crying. ” everything will be fine” I thought to myself as I lifted her up my shoulder and carried her to her room.
It was now 1:20am and still my dad wasn’t back. My mom was just pacing round the parlour and dialing the number of all my dad’s employees she knows, but all to no avail. While some of them number was switch off, others weren’t picking. ” peep, peeep, peeep” I heard the horn, it was the horn of my dad’s car. I sprang up immediately so also did Eunice. I took the keys to the gate and ran outside , Eunice followed me but my mom didn’t she stood by the door. I opened the gate and the car drove in, I rushed to the driver’s seat and my dad was the one there, my joy knew no bound. He opened the door and brought out his briefcase, I collected it from him.




Me:” Welcome dad” I said, he looked at me and smiled.


Dad:” My boy, how are you doing?” He asked as he place his hand across my neck.


Eunice:” Daddy welcome” she also greeted.


Dad:” My angle, my shinning star” he said as he held Eunice with the other hand. On seeing him my mom left the door entrance and went in. We entered the sitting room with my dad and met my mom standing arm akimbo, I took the briefcase to their room, I was surprise when I got and met Desmond still lying awake.


Desmond:” Gabriel, have daddy come back?” He asked while I smiled and nodded. Almost immediately, he got up and ran to the sitting room shouting ” Daddy” as he went.


Dad:” My boy, you haven’t slept?”


Desmond:” Daddy see, all of them were crying, only me, I did not cry” he said while my dad looked up to us.


Dad:” Yes you are a big boy so you can’t cry. Now go and sleep, its late ” he said as he dropped down Desmond.


Dad:” Hey I am not seeing another woman” he said to my mom who was still standing arm akimbo.


Mom:”Hugine, I never said anything.”


Dad:” Then stop baptizing me with those eyes of yours” he said smiling as he stood up and held my mom by her waist but she pushed him away.

Mom:” Just leave me alone” she said


Dad:” See, it’s work” he told her while I and Eunice sat down watching them.


Mom:” Since we got married dear, your work has not ever come in the way, right from when you were 21, you never complained about your work, then why now at 40? ” she asked while I turned to Eunice slowly.


Me:” Eunice, it’s like Dad and mom gave birth to you and Joshua before they got married, you guys are as a result of unwanted pregnancy” I whispered to her.


Eunice:” No, maybe its only Joshua, am just 19″ she said while I smiled.


Dad:” Honey calm down and let me explain”

Mom:” Why was your phone switched off?”


Dad:” The battery was flat and there was no where to charge it.”


Mom:” But you could have charged it in your car.”


Dad:” Remember you took my car’s charger because yours was faulty” he said calmly.


Mom:” That isn’t an excuse, why are you just coming home by 1 in the midnight?”


Dad:” Have told you before that it was work.” He said calmly again.


Mom:” Hugine, you are the owner of that company, if there was so much work, why didn’t you ask you employees to do it.”


Dad:” The work am talking about is beyond them and remember they also have family like me and I won’t want them to face their wives the way am facing you now.”


Mom:” Spare me that, what was this work?”


Me:” Am enjoying this” I said out loud as I relaxed on the couch.


Dad:” Gabriel please help me tell your mom that it was work” he pleaded.


Me:” Mom it was work.”


Dad:” Oh God, my son is a fool”


Mom:” Hugine you haven’t answered me, what was this work?” She asked again.


Dad:” OK, I went to get the serum from a horse which I hope will be able to render the antigen of one of my patient harmless.” He explained while my mom looked at him confused.

Mom:” I don’t get you ” she said, I wonder how she will get him, she isn’t a science student.


Dad:” You see about a month ago, somebody with a critical case was brought to my lab, since then I have been working on how to get antibodies to fight the micro organism which have infected her since her body is now so defenseless, it can’t provide antibodies against diseases by itself.” He started while my mom listened calmly.


Dad:” So just last week I was able to culture the same specie of the micro organism that was responsible for the infection and then I rendered it harmless and I went to a vet who gave me a horse, I injected it into the horse and came back home, so today I went back there to get the antibodies which must have been produced by the horse,I got it through the blood serum of the tissue of the horse and then took it back to the lab, before coming back home. All this wasted my time.” He said.


Mom:” Have you injected it into the person?” She asked


Dad:” No dear, I hope to do that tomorrow, am sterilizing it now” He said again and held my mom by her waist, she looked at him and smiled.


Mom:”Am sorry for being mad at you dear” she apologized

Dad:” its okay, you are meant to” he told her as he lifted her up and carried her towards their room.


Dad:” Goodnight children” he shouted as he carried my mom who was laughing to their room.


Me:” Actually, its morning” I whispered to Eunice while she smiled.


Eunice:” So that’s the end of the drama?”

Me:” No”


Eunice:” Then what else?”she asked and immediately, I lifted her up from the chair like the way my dad carried my mom. I carried her to her room and threw her on the bed.


Me:”Good morning sis” I said to her as I made to go into my room.


Eunice:” Goodnight my sweet bro” she replied laughing hard.


°===> The weekend was a fast one and soon it was already Monday. I walked happily to school and also very early. When I reached the school, I was the only one in my class. I entered and sat down and some minutes later, Senior Mark also came in, he was holding a nylon bag in his hand.


Mark: ” Gab, this are the recorders” he said, I closed my mouth in disbelief as I took the nylon from it and it was true. There were about 10 recorders.


Mark:” Be careful ” he added before making to go.



Me:” Thanks bro” I said and shaked his hand as I kept the recorder in my bag. ” Now time for step two” I thought to myself as I headed to the principal office. I came back some minutes later, I was done with my mission there. As I entered the class, I met Mark in the class. He came to me when he saw me.


Mark:” Mrs Jagun is calling you” he said smiling. My mind cut a bit when he told me that, I hope he had not betrayed me?
