Me:”Dad wait, is this the surprise?” I asked him

Dad:” Yes my son, with this your glass will fit perfectly to your face” he told me still smiling.

Me:” I Dont need it , I like the glasses this way” I said while my mom came Into the parlour probably from the kitchen.

Me:” Good afternoon mom” I greeted her.

Mom:” How are you my dear?” She said touching my cheeks.

Me:” Mom can you imagine Dad went to buy me a rope for my glasses?” I said while my mom eyed my dad with a corner of her eyes.

Mom:” Dont worry dear, you won’t use it.” My mom said while i smiled.

Dad:” he won’t use what? This rope cost me two hundred naira and you are here saying he won’t use it, he must wear it until he gets married.”

Mom:” But honey, who sent you to buy it?” My mom asked him.

Dad:” The way he adjust his glasses this days his alarming.”

Mom:” But you aren’t the one adjusting the glasses now” she said as she went to seat with him.

Dad:” I Dont want him to…” He stopped immediately as my mom flinged her hair across his chest.

Mom:” Just let him be dear”

Dad:” OK, what ever” he said as he stood to go into the room, he stopped when he got to my side.

Dad:” I will soon break that glass for you” he whispered while I tried to imitate my mom by flinging my head like my mom always does but unfortunately a light knock from my dad landed on my head while my mom bursted into laughter.

Me:” Mom, take help me fill this” I said giving her the football form.

Mom:” What is it for?”

Me:” it is form I was asked to fill before joining the school football team” I told her.

Mom:” How will you see the ball with this your eye condition?”

Me:” Mom, I only need the glasses for my books, I can play ball without it.” I told her while she read through the form.

Mom:” Give me your pen” she requested while I removed my pen which was just in my shirt pocket and handed to her.

Mom:”Now go in and freshen up, your food is in the kitchen ” she said as she began filling the form.

Me:” Where is Eunice?” I asked my mom

Mom:” she is sleeping in your room”

Me:” why my room?”

Mom:” Because she and Cynthia didn’t arrange their room”

Me:”Am going to wake her up” I said frowning.

Mom:” And you know what Eunice can do if you wake her up from her sleep” she said, of course I know what she can do, the last time I tried it, two hot slaps landed on my cheek. I wasn’t going to try it now, I was only making mouth.

I entered my room and truly Eunice was sleeping on my bed, infant she slept as if the bed was her own. “Nonsense” I thought to myself as she turned to face the other side of the bed. I pulled my uniform and hanged it in my wardrobe, I then brought out a white handkerchief from my glass box and cleaned the lens of my glasses before wearing it back on.

Eunice:”So you back?” She asked as she turned to face me again.

Me:” What are you doing on my bed?”

Eunice:” an sleeping of course.” She replied .

Me:” What happened to…”

Eunice:” please Dont kill me with question just because I slept on your bed ” she said while I adjusted my glasses.

Eunice:” How was school today? ”

Me:” Fine, only that I was asked to wash the school toilet.” I said.

Eunice:” What!! Why?” She shouted in anger shocking I myself.

Me:” As a part of my punishment”

Eunice:” What foolish punishment? That’s rubbish, am going to that school tomorrow” she shouted again , this time her shout attracted my mom.

Mom:” Eunice, what is it? I heard you shouting.”

Eunice:” mom, you won’t believe that those foolish people asked my brother to wash the school toilet”

Mom:” which foolish people?” My mom asked calmly.

Eunice: ” The school authorities now” Eunice shouted again.

Mom:” What rubbish, that toilet that is being used by students with evil minds, am coming to that your school tomorrow ” my mom said calmly but in anger.

Eunice:” Dont worry mom, let me go” Eunice said .

Mom:” Make sure you talk sense into their head tomorrow” my mom said again.

Dad:” Not only is my house filled with terrorist, but those terrorist won’t allow the owner of the house to rest. What is it again?” He asked coming into my room.

Mom:” Dear would you believe that those people in that school literally asked my son to wash their school toilet.” My Mom told me him while my dad turned to me.

Dad:” Gabriel , go and bath, please use two cap full of that dettol .” he said .

Dad:” I think its high time you visit that school” he said turning to my mom as I drew down my towel from my door.

Mom:” Eunice is going there tomorrow ” she told him.

Dad:” Eunice make sure you talk sense into that their skull tomorrow” my dad said again as I went out of the room to the bathroom.

Eunice: ” I will do just that dad” I heard her say.

Dad:” I wonder the amount of diseases this boy would have brought to this house” I heard him say faintly as I entered into the bathroom.

I took my bath, I didn’t use the dettol as my dad instructed. I finished bathing and then took back my glasses which was hanging on the window of our bathroom. I then dried my body and came out.

Dad:” Gabriel go back and bath with dettol ” he shouted from his room. ” Oh Goddddd” I said to myself as I went into the bathroom to have my bath again, this time I used it.

===>Eunice:” Gabi, and you also agreed when they asked you to wash the toilet.” She said immediately I entered my room, she was seating on the bed, sorry my bed and placing her both hands on her chin.

Me:” what else could I have done?” I asked cleaning my body with my towel.

Eunice:” Shut up” she shouted standing up, obviously she was very angry, but unlike those days when I would run, I stood there still toweling my body.

Eunice:” You could have told them NO, and then wait and see what they would do” she said again.

Me:” Its not as easy as you think it is”

Eunice: ” why didn’t you even tell us all this from the beginning, why didn’t you tell me since you were at home? Why are you just saying it now? ”

Me:” it skipped my mind” I told her.

Eunice:” why won’t it skip …”

Me:” Eunice! You aren’t the one washing the toilet,why are you so bothered?” I asked her but she simply shaked her head in pity and left my room. ” thank God” I breathed as I adjusted my glasses.

====> I walked happily to school the next day, Eunice was with me, this would be the first time she would be accompanying me to school but still, I knew what she could do, she wasn’t an easy going person as people might think.

Eunice:” Where is the principal office?” She asked me as we entered into the school gate while I simply pointed.

Eunice:” Follow me” she said and we headed towards the principal office. Luckily for us, Mrs Jagun was also there discussing something with the principal.

Eunice:” Good morning” she greeted with her hand in her pocket.

Principal:” Good morning ma” the principal replied looking from me to her as he saw the resemblance.

Principal:” His sister right?” He asked smiling but Eunice wasn’t.

Eunice:” leave that for now, who asked my brother here to wash the school toilet?” She asked rudely.

Mrs Jagun:” I did” she interrupted rudely.

Eunice:” You are very stupid for that Ma” she said while I adjusted my glass smiling as the principal and Mrs Jagun opened their mouth in shock.
