Me: ” Then what happened to her?” I asked him, he was still looking up the ceiling.

Charles: ” Just like you, I love her so much, I mean so much, I was ready to do anything for her, her name was Kemi , she was as beautiful as Joy if not more than joy. But there was a problem, Mrs Jagun. I wasn’t like you, I wasn’t as bold and courageous as you are, I wasn’t able to fight for her, I was scared of Mrs Jagun and I did not want to get her offended. I denied her many times in the presence of the school authorities even though I loved her.

Then one day she left our school, she said her hearth had been broken enough, she happens to be the only girl I have ever loved, I am not the kind of guy interested In relationship stuff but Kemi took my heart. Since I wasn’t able to defend her I lost her and to be frank, it still hurts me till today, I will always love her but now she got another boy who is able to defend her against anyone not like me. What am I driving at? You love Joy right?” He concluded with a question, his eyes had tears in them but he tried stopping them from dropping.

Me:” Yeah I do, I really do.”


Charles: ” Then defend her. You love joy right? ” he asked for the second time


Me: ” yes I do ” I replied for the second time


Charles: ” Then fight for her. You love joy right ” he asked again while I looked at him surprised.


Me: ” Yeah I do ” for the third time I replied.

Charles: ” Then Dont leave her ” he said as he stood up from my desk, patted me on my shoulder and walked away. His words touched me, but it also gave me more courage and boldness to fight for Joy. At least I got two people who are now with me, Miss Linda and Charles. No wonder he is so gentle, he was deprived of his love by the useless school authorities.


Sandra: ” what are you thinking about? ” her question brought me back to reality, Sandra must have been standing beside me for a long time now.


Me: ” How is it you business? ”


Sandra: ” please adjust let me sit o, you just love to pretend. ”


Me: ” pretend as in how? ” I asked as I created space for her to seat.

Sandra: ” you pretend you Dont love me when in actual sense you do ”

Me: ” how? ”

Sandra: ” why did you come to carry me away from the front when I was flogged? Just to touch me right ? ” she said while I bursted out in laughter.

Me: ” stop being childish my dear, what I did was done out of pity, I can’t afford to see you crying like a cow about to be killed, it was so disgraceful. ” I said while her face turned to that of anger.

Sandra: ” you are so daring, but Dont worry it will all end soon “she said and turned her face out of the window.

Me: ” what will end? ” I asked in curiosity.

Sandra: ” you Dont have to know, but I can actually protect you if you agree to date me. ”

Me:” you are just behaving so cheap, I love expensive girls. ” I said with a wave of hand as she also turned to face the window.

The break over bell soon came, to me today’s break was a bit longer than the normal, maybe the time keeper forgot. We had mathematics and master Theophilus came to take us as usual but unlike other days, he wasn’t lively, something seem to be bothering him.

He tried giving us his best but his class wasn’t as it used to be, he finished halfway and went away without even giving us assignment.

Me: ” what’s wrong with Mr Theo? ” I asked no one in particular.



Sandra:” how am I suppose to know? Go ask him ” she replied while I simply hissed and turned to the other side of the class. ” maybe his girlfriend broke up with him ” I thought inside me as I smiled at my thought.

It was the third period after break, we were free. As usual the girls all went to one side of the class to gossip while the boys also converge in another side.
Akpan sat with me, he was reading a story book. Charles was at the extreme back, he soon stood up and went out with a book, he was probably going to the library.

Akpan: ” Gabi, once again be care..”

Me:” Akpan please go back and tell them you didn’t get anything from me, I know Mrs Jagun sent you but..”


Akpan: ” you are just being childish bro, how do…”

Class rep: ” Gabriel Hugine, Miss Linda ask me to call you. ” he said and immediately went to meet the other guys at the extreme back, they were talking about football. I stood up immediately with a relaxed mind and walked majestically to Miss Linda classroom.


Miss Linda: ” Gabriel, I think you are in trouble ” she said immediately I got to her desk, I looked at her in fear.


Miss Linda:” you have been confirmed ” she said while I adjusted my glasses.
