Me:” I Dont get you ma ” I told miss Linda in my confused and scared state, truly I did not know what she was driving at.


Miss Linda: ” I heard that the school authorities have gotten evidence about you and Joy, they have confirmed that you guys are dating. ”


Me: ” But how did they know that ma? I never told anyone that I was dating Joy.”

Miss Linda: ” I Dont know how they found out, but I heard they will send for you guys, I mean yourself and Joy. Somehow, they have been able to find evidence enough to apprehend you ” she said while I stood on the same spot thinking of what next.


Miss Linda:” And I warned you guys to be careful o, see what you gotten yourself into. ” she said with face full of pity.


Me :” pls ma, do you have any idea what punishment would be given to me? ” I asked now prepared for the worst.


Miss Linda:” if they should pity you, then you will just be flogged alongside with Joy. But if not you and Joy will both be suspended. ” she said still with a pity face.

Me: ” ma, can’t you help us? ”


Miss Linda:” you both should have helped yourselves by not displaying affections publicly. Maybe there is a way out ” she said now sitting on her chair.


Me:” please ma, what is it? ”


Miss Linda : ” Sandra!!! ” she said while I shaked my head in disagreement, nothing would make me go to Sandra, its better I face my punishment like a man. I stood beside her desk for a while before finally exiting her class for mine. I tried figuring out where I have gone wrong, I did not remember telling anyone about I and Joy, Akpan wasn’t able to get anything from me, so which other evidence do they have? Maybe they got no evidence, maybe they only want to scare us I thought yo myself. I was about entering the class when I saw Joy also coming towards the class. Yes!!!!, it could be her, she must have been telling her friends about us, certainly that was the only way they could have been able to apprehend us. I waited for her at the entrance of our class, she was wearing a smile, only if she knew what lies ahead.
To my surprise she knew.


Joy : ” Did you hear the news? ” she asked as she got close to me.


Me: ” what news? ”


Joy :” that myself and you shall be facing the school panel of Judges today for breaking one of the school rules, somehow, they found out we are dating ” she said still smiling.


Me:” Joy, that not something to smile about, and moreover, it would have been your fault, you must have told your friends about us.” I said while her smiling face changed to that of anger.


Joy: ” I Dont gossip or talk about us, I know the kind of school we are and am preety sure you have been the one talking about us.” She fired back.


Me:” Just go abeg, you won’t admit its you ” I said and walked away while she just stood and watched me walk into the class.


____From the look on Sandra’s face, she seem to be happy, I knew it was because of what had befallen I and Joy, I went to my sit pretending to be fine.


Me:” so I will get to meet your Parents tomorrow ” I said starting a friendly conversation.


Sandra:” How?”


Me:” I thought you were going to report to them about how you were maltreated today ” I said smiling.


Sandra:” No, I forgive the school. ” she said.

Me:” But you came into the class earlier on shouting”


Sandra:” That not your business ” she said and as usual turned to face the window.

I walked into the big hall, joy was with me. We had been sent for earlier on by the principal, he asked us to meet them in the school hall. I had already zeroed my mind to face whatsoever happens, I will always love Joy no matter what. Already seated in the hall was the principal, Mrs Jagun and two men, one was the proprietor while the other, I Dont know.


Principal:” Gabriel Hugine and Joy Alex, you have been accused of violating one of the school rules, the one which says that there shall be no issue of a boy and girl relationship, what do you have to say about that? ” he asked staring directly into my eyes, I starer back. His question made me remember charles’s word that I should always defend Joy.


Me:” is there any evidence to this claim sir?” I asked while he adjusted himself smiling.

Principal:” of course there is, but before then, I would want you to agree if you are guilty or not.”


Joy:” we are not guilty ” she said before I could say anything. I could see smiles on their lips, Mrs Jagun smile was the widest, I knew something was wrong.


Principal:” let the evidence be brought in” the principal shouted admist laughter, I was now feeling very uneasy. The back door of the hall slowly opened and Charles slowly walked in with an audio recorder in his hand, he was smiling wickedly. I thought it was a dream as I saw him, I was shocked beyond words, I remembered the saying of my mom ” The enemy you know is better than the saint you Dont know , ”i removed my glasses as I smiled, a smile of defeat.
