The earlier bold Joy became nervous immediately, she looked at me with a kind of eyes that signified she was afraid, I encouraged her with a smile. I took her hands and drew her along. My mom was seated on a couch, Eunice and Desmond were also there with her, Cynthia was standing by the door.

Me:” Good afternoon mom”I greeted as we entered the living room.

Joy:”Good afternoon ma” she also greeted nervously.

Mom:”Joy, how are you?” My mom said smiling, I knew Cynthia have been telling her things, how else does she know Joy name?

Joy:”Am fine ma” Joy said trying hard to smile.

Mom:”Gab, you should have told me you were going out”

Me:”It was impromptu mom” I said as I walked to her and gave her a peck on her cheeks.

Mom:”Joy are you scared, please seat down now” my mom said smiling again while Eunice went to get her a glass of water.

Eunice:”So this is the Joy you have been talking about? She is really beautiful, welcome in-law” she said touching Joy’s cheeks and handling her the glass of water.

Me:”Mom, she is Mrs Alex daughter” I said sitting down beside my mom.

Mom:”Which Mrs..”

Me:”My former English teacher ” I said happily again.

Mom:”You Dont mean it, you mean your wife is Mrs Alex daughter?” My mom said jokingly while we all laughed, Joy only smiled.

Mom:”My daughter, you are welcome” my mom said again.

Mom:”Dont be shy, feel free, we are your family.” My mom added.

Joy:”Okay ma’am”

Me:”I thought you wanted to see my mom, now you are behaving like you can’t talk” I added. She bit her lips and clutched her hands, I knew she wanted to say something to me but she was shy, I smiled as I placed my legs on my mom’s laps. My mom made to hit my legs which I quickly removed and she hit her laps which brought another round of laughter from all of us including Joy this time.

Mom:” Cynthia and Desmond go and play inside” my mom ordered.
Desmond ran inside immediately while Cynthia dragged herself away.

Mom:”Gabriel in as much as it might sound weird, am happy for you.”my mom started while I sat upright.

Mom:” Yes, have watched you grow all this years and it baffles me to see that you Dont associate yourself with girls. Once your grandmom had told me you would become a priest but I prayed against it. In the early days of your Secondary school, I had asked your teachers to always make sure you seat with a girl but still yet, there wasn’t any positive result. And now Lo and behold, here you are bringing a girl to me as your girlfriend, Dont be surprised how I knew,Eunice told me everything. Parents won’t agree to this but with no regrets, I agree for the both of you to date. You can’t measure the amount of happiness in me this day. In as much as I approve of the both of you, I Dont approve for you guys to go into what is beyond you, am sure you guys are matured enough to understand.” My mom concluded and relaxed her back on the couch she was sitting on.

Me:”Thanks Mom” I shouted in joy.

Joy:” Thanks ma” she said as a smile formed on her lips.

Eunice:”And you guys should not betray each other, fight for what is yours.” My sister added smiling.

Cynthia:”And remember what mom said, Dont pass boundaries o” Cynthia said, she had been hiding behind the curtain all this while. I later went into my room and changed into a short knicker and shirt. I came out some minutes later to meet Eunice and Joy chatting and smiling, my mom had gone inside. I had wanted to join in the discussion but lose interest immediately I discovered that it was about India movies.

Joy:” I think I should.m start going now” she told Eunice.after about twenty minutes.

Eunice:”Ehya, I wish you can stay a bit longer”

Joy:”Maybe next time”

Eunice:”OK, Gabriel come and escort your wife”

Me:”I will do that without you even telling me” I replied and got up, I went to the fridge and brought out a medium size holladian yogurt. I took out small paper bag and put it in it.

Me:”Joy let go” I said stretching my hands which she took willingly.

Eunice:”I go love o” she said and escorted us to the gate before turning back.

Joy:”I love your family” joy started the moment we were left alone.

Me:”I thought you were deaf and dumb, why didnt you talk when we were inside?”

Joy:”Weren’t you just nodding like an Agama lizard while you were in my house” she said smiling while I formed an angry face.

Joy:”You Dont look handsome in that face” she said touching my cheeks.

Me:”leave me alone”I said still putting on the angry face.

Joy:” please take off that face, people might start wondering why I am walking with an alien.” She said, we were now on the express road. I smiled and looked at her.

Me:”Only aliens date aliens ” I replied her laughing, just then I noticed Mrs Jagun car sped pass us.

Joy:”Wait Gabi did you see..”

Me:”Yeah I saw it, Mrs Jagun’s car” I said in a cracking tone. I bit my lips in anticipation of tomorrow’s trouble.
