Not only was I surprised, I was also overjoyed. Joy’s mom happens to be my former English teacher, Mrs Alex. Mrs Alex is an average, fair and beautiful woman, probably in her late thirties, she taught me English language all through my period in the Junior Secondary School and I must say, she is responsible for my success in the subject.

Mrs Alex:”Gabriel, You never told us you were leaving” she said as I sat on a couch beside her.

Me:”I didn’t want to disclose the news yet.”

Mrs Alex:”But your dad already told the School management that you guys won’t be resuming with us, so its no longer a news” she said smiling while I nodded and stared at the house decorations.

Mrs Alex:”So you are that good guy my daughter has been talking about? She even said you are very brave.” She said while I nodded again.

Mrs Alex:”This unlike you, you have never showed interest in girls before, why now?”

Me:”It baffles me also” I finally spoke.

Mrs Alex:” Or are you captivated by my daughter’s beauty? ” she asked while joy who had been quiet smiled sheepishly.

Me:”No that ma” I said

Mrs Alex:”I know it can’t be about the beauty, Noble college has a lot of beautiful girls and you never showed interest in them, then why Joy?” She was smiling this time.

Me:”Maybe its just nature..”.

Mrs Alex:”Gabriel, I like you and I know you have a good nature, I wants you and my daughter to be for each other, but Dont pass boundaries, am sure you understand me?”

Me:”Yes ma”

Mrs Alex:”You might be wondering why I approve of you two easily, its because I know you never have interest in girls and my daughter never also had interest in boys, and now that two of you have interest in each other, I think I should just watch and see how it goes, it might be destiny and I cant stop it.” She concluded while I nodded and a smile formed on my lips.

Mrs Alex: “And moreover, you won’t have agreed to come here if not for the fact that you have no bad intentions for her.” She added

Me:”Thank you ma” I finally said.

Joy:”Thanks mom” she spoke for the first time.

Mrs Alex: “Joy”

Joy:” Ma”

Mrs Alex:” You see you Dont read books I bring home, about some months ago, I brought a magazine of my school valedictory service, had it been you had gone through it, you should have seen his picture in it, he was part of the graduands” she said pointing to me but staring at joy.

Joy:”I had planned to go through it but my mind later drifted away from it” she replied while her mom nodded.

Mrs Alex:”Gabriel, what will you take?”She finally asked the question I had prayed not to be asked.

Me:”Am good ma, am even..”

Mrs Alex:”I know you now, Gabriel the shy guy. Joy go give him a can of Malt from the fridge, if he refuse to take it, put it in his bag” she said standing up to go to the room.

Me:”Thanks ma” I said as Joy went to bring the malt.

Joy:”Wait a minute, am coming” she said as she handed the malt to me and ran inside. She came back some moments later, she had changed from her uniform and was now wearing a tight jeans trouser and a blue top, she was looking more beautiful.

Joy:”Mom said I can escort you home” she told me while I stared at her blankly.

Me:”But we agreed tomorrow ” I said. She rolled her eyes in a funny way before replying.

Joy:”Change of plan” she finally said holding my hands and drawing me out.

Joy:”Mom I won’t stay long” she shouted.

Mrs Alex:”Dont worry dear, you are safe with him” her voice sounded back.

Joy:”Now we are out of the house, continue frowning your face like you did on our way here” she told me. We were now on our way to my house, she was holding my hand and swinging them. I did not reply her as I pretended not to here.

Joy:”So you are still angry with me?” She asked not looking at me.

Me:”Just keep quiet and let’s go” I finally spoke in a high tone, she stopped and looked at me.

Joy:”Am sorry, I promise not to ever slap you again” she said still standing.

Me:”No, you can continue slapping, you Dont wait for explanations when you are angry, the only thing you do is to give slaps” I replied her as I continued walking, she followed me still holding my hands.

Joy:”I won’t slap you if you Dont make me angry, and moreover have apologized” She shouted this time.

Me:”Please, just keep quiet” I also shouted.

Joy:”I won’t” she shouted back.

Me:”Then keep on barking” I said releasing my hand from her grips, but she held it again.

Joy:”I Dont know why you are still angry, have apologized, what else should I do for you to forgive me?”

Me:” Maybe you should feel the slap yourself, to you, its just slap, what there in a slap?” I hissed and kept on walking.

Joy:”OK is this what you want?” She said releasing my hands. I turned to her, and was surprised to see her slap herself, not just an ordinary slap, a resounding slap.

Joy:”Is it not finished now?” She asked and walked pass me, I ran after her.

Me:”I never ask you to do that” I said holding her hands.

Joy:”Just shut up, that’s what you want for you to just forgive me isn’t it?” She barked.

Me:”No, I was only trying to make you understand that its wrong slapping me because of small issues.” I said holding her hands hoping she would resist but she did not.

Joy:”Haven’t I apologized ?”

Me:”Okay, an sorry please forgive me” I replied ready getting tired of the argument. She smiled and looked at me with, I know she was up to something.

Joy:”I should forgive you?” She asked again while I struggled to nod my head.

Joy:”On one condition” she said smiling.

Me:”What’s that?”

Joy:” l got you, there is no condition. I love you” she said laughing while I gave her a painful punch.

Joy:”Guy, that hurts” she said again but this time in a boyish manner.
She held my hands again and we walked to my house without no argument but bringing out discussions from everything we saw.

Cynthia:”Mommy come and see the girl I told you about oo” my sister shouted immediately I opened the gate, she alsonran inside to inform my mom of our arrival, this girl has certainly be telling my mom things.
