Mrs Jagun:” Answer me, were you talking to me?” She asked, this time advancing closer to me. I did not say anything, now I was afraid. I didn’t know what gave me the courage to speak the first time, now I am in trouble. Joy face was full with pity, she knew what was next for me, am going to face the wrath of Mrs Jagun’s cane. “Po” a stroke of the cane landed on my head, it was a painful one, the hit made my hands find its way to my head. She hit the cane on my head again, this time I scratched my head painfully, I could feel tears in my eyes, I knew the tears would soon start falling as there was no space in my eyes to accommodate them anymore.

Mrs Jagun:”So you have guts to talk to me like that?” She asked as another stroke landed on my head.

Mrs Jagun:”Answer me!!!!”she barked as she wanted to bring the cane down to my head again but I held it, I think I had had enough.

Mrs Jagun:”So you want to beat me, OK take the cane and beat me” she said releasing the cane to me. She stood arms akimbo. I held the cane staring at it without knowing what to do with it. “Poow” a hot slap landed on my face, it was not from Mrs.Jagun this time, it was from Sandra. I turned to her in shock and surprise but she stood there smiling. Mrs Jagun herself seemed pleased.

Sandra:”That what you get when you disobey your teacher…” I did not allow her finish as her delivered two resounding slaps to the both side of her cheeks, her light skin turned red immediately. Like as if they had been waiting to do so, tears fell down her eyes freely. Mrs Jagun also rose her hands to slap me but I held her hands, I did not know what gave me the courage but I knew it must be from my anger.

I looked straight into Mrs Jagun eyes, she had this look of fear as I held her hands more firmly.

Mrs Jagun:”What are you trying yo do?” She asked with a shaking voice but I did not reply, I folded my hands and then straightened them.

Mrs Jagun:”You want to beat me up?” She asked again while some students now bursted into laughter.

Miss Linda:”Gabriel stop it” she said rushing into the class, Joy had gone to call her some moments ago. She rushed to me and drew me away forcing me to release Mrs Jagun’s hand, Joy was behind her. Mrs Jagun on her side just hissed as she picked up her cane to go out.

Mrs Jagun:”Your stay in this School is over” she said in anger before walking out.

Miss Linda:”Come” she said holding my hands and dragging me with her to the library.

Miss Linda:”What came over you?” She asked calmly as we sat in the library, she was holding my hands. I narrated all that happened to her from the moment I came in the morning till when Mrs Jagun came, as I narrated, tears dropped from her eyes. I saw pity on her face as I struggled to talk in between the tears.
She stood up to the window and asked a Junior student to call Joy and Sandra for her while she came back to sit.

Miss Linda:”Dont worry, you will remain in this school, nothing will happen to you, as long as I am here, no one will harass the innocent” she said as joy and the junior student walked in.

Miss Linda:”Where is Sandra?” She asked noticing Sandra was not among them.

Joy:”she said she isn’t coming” joy said standing and bending her head.

Miss Linda:”She isn’t coming?” She asked rhetorically and stood up, she drew out a cane from the corner of the library.

Miss Linda:”I think its time to implement discipline in this school” she said and walked out slowly in her high heel, I and Joy followed behind to our class. I dried the tears in my eyes so that my classmates won’t notice.

Miss Linda:”Get up Sandra”she said as we entered the class. Sandra looked at her and stood up uneasily.

Miss Linda:”Why did you refuse my call?”

Sandra:” I Dont feel like coming now” she said spreading out her hands. Miss Linda smiled and turned to me, I could see anger hidden in the smile.

Miss Linda:”I would ask you again, why did you refuse my call?”

Sandra:”I said I Dont feel …..” A stroke of the cane landed on her shoulder and interrupted her. This must be the first time a cane would be hitting Sandra as she shouted and rubbed her shoulder in pain, another cane hit her back and she fell rolling in the floor.

Sandra:”please ma, I won’t do it again” she shouted and Miss Linda drew her up roughly and landed her more strokes.

Miss Linda:”This would be the last time you will disobey your teacher, spoilt brat” she said angrily and dished another cane to Sandra.

“LINDA” A voice shouted, we turned immediately to the door, it was the Principal accompanied by Mrs Jagun and two more teachers.
