I looked at her with my red eye as I adjusted my glass that has almost fallen due to the impact of the slap. She was still staring at me with anger in her eye. I eyed her before finally turning my back to leave.



Joy:” Gabi am sorry” she said as she ran up to me but I did not reply her, I just walked along while she stood there staring at me. I walked a little bit forward before turning again to look at her, she was still standing there, this time with her leg crossed and twisting her mouth in a cute manner. She saw me staring at her and she waved her left hand with a doubting face. I did not wave back , I turned and continued on my journey home. I touched my cheeks when I was already half way home, to be sincere, the slap hurts. Sitting right in the living room as got home was Eunice, as usual she was watching India movies.


Eunice:”Hey my sweet bro is back, how was school today?” She asked me while I just eyed her and went to my room. She immediately knew that something was wrong and she followed me behind as I entered my room.


Eunice:”What is it?” She asked calmly as she sat on my bed, I did not answer her, I unbuttoned my uniform and whistled a song, should we call it a song? I did not know what I was whistling.

Eunice:” Gabriel…”


Me:” Dont just call me at all, Dont call my name. See thanks for the foolish and stupid playboy advise you gave me. Congratulations, I was awarded a slap today” I said in anger while she smiled.

Eunice:”Slapped by who?” She asked as she drew my hands and made me sit on the bed.


Me:”Joy of course, Joy slapped me” I replied. she covered her mouth with her both palms and widened her eyes.

Eunice:”Oh am really sorry for that bro, but maybe you got her too jealous”


Me:”What else did you expect when you asked me to play Sandra? You think she doesn’t have feelings or what?” I said angrily looking at Eunice this time.


Eunice:”Take it easy gab,I did not force you to do the playboy stuff, you can stop it if you want” she said as she stood up and left my room hissing. I fell flat on the bed, it was certainly another bad day at school,too much problems just in my first week of resumption.

I stretched my hands toward the pillow and brought out my phone beneath it, I checked my notification bar and noticed I had 2 missed calls from Joy. Although I was angry with her, I still called back, my feelings for her surpassed my anger.


Me:” Yes, you called” I said the moment she picked up.

Joy:”Yeah I did, any problem with that?” She asked boldly getting me more angry.

Me:” Why did you call?”


Joy:”it is not a crime, is it?”

Me:”Please say what you have to say and get off”

Joy:”I should get off, Gabi, but why? Is it because I love you? Is this how guys behave? So because I told you the time was not right for us to date, you then looked for a second choice, Sandra. Gabriel is it fair?” She asked with a voice full of sorrow and depression. My anger finally gave way to my feelings as she said those words.


Me:”Joy, it might not be what you think” I said trying hard to hide my feelings.

Joy:”So tell me,how is it?”

Me:”You won’t understand” I replied as I dropped the phone and stretched on my bed. It was obvious I love Joy, but I Dont know how to keep Sandra out of the way. I Dont want Sandra to hurt her or make her parent feel bad. Maybe the playboy stuff happens to be the perfect solution after all, there was no way I would date Joy without getting her in trouble, I just pray she doesn’t lose interest in me.

I took a walk to the football field in the evening, I sat on a tyre which was fixed to the ground and watched as some group of street boys played with themselves. The cool breeze of the evening swept pass me and relieved me a little. ” Maybe I should even stop all this” I thought to myself, ” its just my first week in Mr.Green’s Academy and i already got problem with the girl, what will happen by the end of the term?” I asked myself as I walked back home after getting enough view from the field, “I will stop it” I concluded.

Stepping into the School Premises was like that of any other day, I walked and adjusted my glasses along, I wasn’t in a haste as I was not late for school.


Joy:”Good morning” she greeted me from behind as she was also just coming to school, she looked beautiful in her jeans trouser and white top, that was the Thursday wear. Looking at her alone was enough to make me smile.


Me:”Good morning Joy” I replied smiling.

Joy:”And why are you smiling at me? Do I look like Sandra” she asked keeping a straight face.

Me:”No, you look better than Sandra” I said but she made no reaction.


Joy:”Your tongue are full of lies” she replied me as she walked faster.


Me:”You are right, I was lying, Sandra looks better than you a million time” I said to her and she stopped to look at me with angry eyes but I just smiled and passed her by.

I was welcomed to class by a hug from Sandra who was already in class.

Sandra:”Welcome love” she said as Joy walked pass us hissing.

“Guys if you are being loved by someone, try your best not to ever joke with their feelings, true love is rare to find, dont play with the one you got.”
