Secondary - Season 1 - Episode 11

Me:”Yeah, I was looking for you” I replied her sternly while I drew her hand and headed towards a free table in the canteen.

Joy:”Are you gonna pull off my hands now?” She asked as she made to sit.

Me:”What was the meaning of all that?”

Joy:”All what?” She was looking confused.

Me: ” why have you been frowning towards me since morning?” I asked

Joy:”So, all what you could do this morning was just to sit with her, you could not come over to me to narrate what happened this morning, you Dont have know how I was embarrassed today, all what you care about is why I was frowning at you today, rubbish talk” she hissed as she threw her face away from me. I did not see it as my fault, I just can’t go about asking her what happened again since I had been clearly notified that Mrs Jagun was responsible for everything, but all the same, I complied with Joy.

Me:”So what happened?” I asked calmly holding her left hand, she drew her hand away from mine and hissed still keeping her face away from mine.

Me: “I was just confused this morning, and I was also shocked and surprised, it wasn’t my fault …”

Joy:”its okay, Mrs Jagun came to class today and called me a s--t, she then warned me not to be seen with you again and that I should pack my things and leave the sit, I was so asha…” She was saying but her tears hooked her voice, she was crying silently, I took a handkerchief from my trouser pocket and gave to her which she used in cleaning her face. She took a deep breathe and made to continue.

Joy:” Gabi, I was never been so embarrassed in my entire life, Sandra was also there laughing and some other students, only the good ones showed concern and came to console me again. She said she was going to call my parents and tell them I now run after guys, I know how my dad will feel, he will cross his legs and lament bitterly on my life, my mom will cry out her eyes. It won’t be the first time she would be calling them, Gabi, am the only daughter and the first child of my parent, I Dont want to dissapoint them. Gabi I love you but I Dont think we are meant for each other, maybe the future might be bright” she said cleaning her face with the handkerchief again. I pulled off my glasses and dropped it on the table, I could feel I was angry, I saw my veins becoming extremely visible, I could not talk but I was hurt deep inside.

Joy:”Have it” she said handling my handkerchief to me.

Me:”You can keep that” I said staring at her. She nodded and dipped the handkerchief in her pocket , She stood up, took another look at me before finally adjusting the chair and went away, I watched her as she left the canteen, she turned back on two occasions to see me looking at her but quickly looked away. I watched as she finally swayed her waist outside. I wore back my glasses, as I stretched my legs under the table. “Dont worry Joy, I won’t get you in trouble but you will be mine” I thought as I finally got up and went towards Mrs Jagun office.

I forgot to knock as I entered the lab, she looked up from what she was writing.

Mrs Jagun:”Why can’t you knock?” She asked me.

Me:”I forgot to ma” I replied politely.

Mrs Jagun:” so why are you here?” She asked concentrating more on what she was writing earlier.

Me:”I came to confirm ma, did you ask Sandra to..”

Mrs Jagun:”Yes I did, she is now your new seatmate, I hope you guys flow along” she said smiling this time.

Me:”OK ma” I said and turned back.

Mrs Jagun:”Gabriel” she called out while I turned back.

Mrs Jagun:”Under no circumstance should you change your sit” she said and signalled to me to leave her office, ” I won’t change my sit ma, but you will sure regret doing this” I murmured to myself as I walked slowly back to the food canteen where I bought an egg roll which I later dumped in the wastebin due to loss of appetite. I later walked back to class, it wasn’t yet break over but I decided to rest, I entered the class, there were only few people in the class, most were the boys, for once I decided to mingle with the boys, I walked slowly to join them

Me:”Hy guys” I greeted adjusting my glasses, I could see smiles on some of there faces and some were so accommodating enough to give me a friendly shake.

The day was sure bad, I did not bother trekking home, I just took a bike. I needed to get home and cool my brain. I went straight to my room and pulled over my school uniform, I threw my shoes to any direction I felt like. I was still in my angry mood when I heard my eldest sis voice,Eunice. When did she come back from school, maybe they are in strike again.

Eunice:” The destroyer is back” she said as she barged into my room smiling , I stood up and hugged her.

Me:”What happened, are you on break?” I asked her.

Eunice:”My brother, na strike o” she said jumping on my bed.

Eunice:”Why the long face?” She asked observing my mood. I breathed and told her everything that happened since on monday that I resumed my new school, she listened attentively till I was done.

Eunice:” Gabi haven’t you heard of playboys?” She asked while I looked at her in shock.
