DESPERATE PLIGHT (Travails Of a hero ) - Season 1 - Episode 26

GENERAL HOSPITAL
(INSIDE THE WARD)

Richard looked from the men who claimed to be policemen to Tega who stood smiling like an idiot, then suddenly bursted into laughter thus surprising Tega a great deal.

“You guys are just so stupid and I guess you’ve forgotten that I am a soldier and soldiers are given license to do whatsoever,” he said and laughed some more.

“Are they also given license to cheat on their wifes?” Jane asked and stood up, then folded her arms while Richard immediately stopped laughing and swallowed hard.

Tega looked defeated. He had allowed his thoughts becloud his sense of judgement that he had forgotten Richard was a soldier but at least the so called policemen should have known better or did he make a mistake. So many things occupied his mind as he turned to face the men. “Who are you?” he asked but one of the men pulled out a gun from his trouser back pocket and walked up to Lucy’s bed causing Tega’s eyes to widen in fear. “What are you doing?” he asked in fear.

The second guy laughed while the first guy pointed the gun directly at Lucy’s chest.
“What’s going on here?” Jane asked as she tried very hard to stay strong and not to run to her husband’s arm for protection.

“Who are you?” Tega shouted impatiently through gritted teeth.

The third guy laughed too and placed a hand on his shoulder, “Is she your wife?” he asked pointing at Lucy who lay innocently on the bed with closed eyes unaware of what was going on.

“Not yet but my fiancee,” Tega answered.

“Fiancee?” Jane repeated as the word echoed in her ears. Then she turned and looked at Richard with the look of, “You cheated on me with someone elses’ wife?” but Richard quickly averted his eyes and faced the men.

“Who are you and whats your mission?” he asked trying to put up an authoritative attitude.

The guy with the gun smiled and carressed Lucy’s bandaged head with the nossle of the gun, “Assasins, trained to dress like policemen to carry out duties and fulfil our deadly mission.”

“What!” Tega exclaimed and began shaking like a leaf…

RICHARD’S RESIDENCE
(SITTING ROOM)
:
Ella sat on the couch beside Emmy fuming in anger, “I don’t just understand why mum helped her. She behaves like a child at times and is too emotional,” she complained.

“Yes!” Emmy said and stood up. “Lets talk about that later and clean up this mess,” he added and made to take a step but Ella quickly held his hand and pushed him back into the couch thus hurting him.

“Ouch!” Emmy winced in pain. “Why did you do that?”

“Sorry but you can’t tidy this up,” Ella said defiantly.

“Why?” Emmy wanted to know as he glanced at the blood stained spot and gun.

“You just can’t!” Ella stood up..

“I demand to know why,” Emmy also stood up..

“It’s dad’s mess and he will clean it up himself afterall this is his house,” she fired and left for her room while Emmy just stood and stared…

BACK TO THE GENERAL HOSPITAL
(INSIDE THE WARD)

Richard looked very confused. He felt like doing something but didn’t know what to do, “How did you meet Tega?” he asked instead.

“We were on Lucy’s track and fortunately for us, Tega helped us out by coming to us,” the first guy said. “Actually, he told us he needed to deal with you and we had to manipulate his thinking faculty which worked out perfectly well,” he added and grinned widely.

“So, you mean you ain’t policemen?” Tega asked feeling very stupid.

“Yes!” the second guy said. “In life you have to be extremely careful coz some people ain’t what they claim to be,” he advised.

“Yes!” the guy with the gun concurred. “We are on a deadly mission to wipe out Miss Lucy williams and that’s why we’re here.”

“That’s impossible!” Richard said loudly, hoping to attract some attention from outside but unfortunately it seemed the hospital was deserted.

“Of coz it is and don’t try shouting coz no one will hear you. You’re only a soldier but we are assassins, well trained assasins,” the first guy said.

“Why do you want her dead and who sent you?” Tega questioned.

“No need to know who sent us, she’s a betrayer,” The first guy said and cocked the gun and was about to pull the trigger on Lucy.

“Impossible!” Tega and Richard shouted and rushed to him…
