DESPERATE PLIGHT (Travails Of a hero ) - Season 1 - Episode 19

NIGERIA POLICE STATION
:
As at 6:30AM the next day, Jane was already sitted in the police station. Everywhere looked scanty except for the two officers at the counter and the cleaners who were cleaning the surroundings.

“Goodmorning,” Jane greeted the male and female officers on duty while the responded heartily.

“I’m here to file a report about…” Jane began but was cut short by the male officer.

“Your children ma,” he smiled. “They are safe and sound.”

Jane looked confusingly at them, “How did you know my children?” she asked wondering if they were the ones that had kidnapped them.

“Who doesn’t know the wife and children of our country’s great war hero, Mr Richard,” The female officer said, almost a question.

On hearing her husband’s name, Jane frowned but quickly covered it up with a smile that barely reached her eyes. “Yes!” she said. “But how did you find them because they never returned home from their grandparents house last night.”

“You’ll be taken to the hospital and there everything will be explained to you,” the officer said.

Jane’s was still finding it difficult to believe. She thanked God for answering her prayers as she moved back to sit on the long bench inside the station. She just couldn’t wait to set her eyes on her children whom she had missed so much…

Minutes later, after all necessary arrangements were made, her car was seen speeding along the highway that led to the General hospital with the female police officer inside with her…

GENERAL HOSPITAL
:
After about an hour, Jane’s car pulled to a stop infront of the hospital, then she and the female police alighted while she made sure all doors were locked. Then they both climbed the short flight of stairs that led to the hospital’s front door and walked into the reception.
They made necessary enquiries and were led to a ward…

INSIDE THE WARD
:
Jane and the female police walked into the ward through the door that was already opened.

“What!” Jane exclaimed as she saw Mike who sat on the edge of the bed with a bandaged head and arm. “Mike!” She called and then turned to look at the Inspector General of police who sat on a chair with blood stained eyes and then to the four police men who stood behind him and also two men who were handcuffed. “Can someone explain to me what’s going on here?” she inquired.

The IG cleared his throat and spoke up, “Please ma, calm down and take a seat,” He said and gestured to another chair that was beside the second bed in the large word.
Jane hesitated for a while but then obligued, walked to the chair and sat down.

“Good!” the IG smiled a bit after Jane had sat down and turned to face Mike. “Mr Michael James, I must commend those young men for what they did to you last night coz you deserve it, even more,” he said and turned back to face Jane. “Ma,” he began. “This man here paid these two men to kidnap your children but fortunately he didn’t harm them.”

“Mike!” Jane shouted and stood up. She tried rushing to Mike to hit him with her handbag but was stopped by the female police officer.

“I know how you feel ma but please let me explain,” the IG pleaded and after a few seconds, Jane sat back, breathing heavily in anger.

Then the IG continued, “Last night, Mr Michael was so unfortunate to park his car on the roadside a little distance from the police checkpoint which is prohibited and that single act landed him into trouble where his tyres were deflated and he got the beatings of his life. Thanks to God the officers on duty ran to his rescue before those hoodlums could kill him due to how drunk they were. He was saved and brought to the hospital for treatment by the police and some passerby. But then, while in the hospital, his phone kept ringing nonestop and I was forced to receive the call because I had rushed down to the hospital after the information I got. To cut the long story short, the caller was one of his accomplice which we traced after the call to where they had held your children captive. Though it wasn’t easy but we were able to arrest them and rescue your children,” he concluded and turned to face Mike again. “So Mr Mike, tell us the reason and what pushed you to abduct the children of Mr Richard Smith, our country’s war hero?”

Mike swallowed hard and stood up. He thought of a way to escape and an idea popped in his head, “I need to use the rest room please,” he said and made to take a step further but one of the policemen quickly rushed forward and pushed him back on the bed with force…
