DESPERATE PLIGHT (Travails Of a hero ) - Season 1 - Episode 18

Mike was dumfounded as he stood in the middle of the bloody, ruthless, coldhearted looking men. He was obviously shaking in fear.

After few minutes of silence, he finally found his voice and asked, “Who are you please?” with a voice as calm as possible.
One of the men looked at him deadly in the eyes, “Na you carry your dirty house on four wheels come keep for road,” he questioned in pidgin english.

Mike knew exactly what he meant. He knew he had parked his car wrongly but the irritating smell of alcohol that emanated from the man’s mouth made him sq££ze his face and cover his nose.

“Hiaa, so we dey smell abi…” the second guy fired and hit his head hard with the stick he held making Mike groan in pains as he held the part he had been hit.

“Please am sorry,” Mike pleaded but the guys weren’t ready to listen to him.

“Money or your life,” the third guy said sharply but calmly and leaned on his car.

“Why? How do you expect me to pay you after deflating my tyres?” Mike asked in anger, forgetting where he was for a moment.

“Na we you de talk to, kai you don die be that,” the second guy said and before Mike could plead for mercy, they trio descended on him. They sticks that landed on Mike as he fell stung like bites from giant and cruel mosquitoes making his mind drift back to the fulani normads that usually guide their cows along the road and bushes. Then they resulted to kicking, as their heavy boots landed on Mike’s body, he realised a little too late that the men were drunk. More beatings and kicks. Then he heard faint voices like ‘Stop there!’ ‘Don’t let them get away!’ but a salty wetness warmed his mouth and he closed his eyes and slipped into the quiet as everything blacked out…

RICHARD’S RESIDENCE
SITTING ROOM
:
Jane immediately stood up and rushed to the kitchen to get a bowl of water and towel. Then she ran back to the sitting room and bent over her mother inlaw and started mouth to mouth session while her father inlaw mopped her forehead with the towel that was soaked with water.

Minutes later, Mrs Smith sputtered and coughed back to life. Jane and her husband then helped her up and the husband led her to the guest room while Jane moved and locked the front door, the half ran to the guest room…

INSIDE THE GUEST ROOM
:
Jane and her father inlaw sat beside her mother inlaw who looked very weak. “Mother please be calm, I will report the case to the police station first thing tomorrow morning,” Jane pleaded and held her hands while her father inlaw carressed her forehead lovingly.

“Yes! You just need to rest,” the father inlaw concurred.

“My grandchildren, first it was my son but now my grandchildren,” the mother inlaw lamented bitterly.

“Mother please stop crying, I believe I will find them by tomorrow,” Jane pleaded again while trying very hard to control her tears…

INSIDE THE FOREST
:
The presence of Lucy brought the fight to an abrupt end while Tega felt jealous as he watched Richard embrace Lucy tightly.
Thelma only felt irritated by her presence and wished she could get the chance to kill her. She wondered how she managed to survive with the deep wounds she had used the dagger to inflict on her.

Richard breath in and out and released Lucy, “How did you survive this?” he asked. “And where have you been?”
Lucy smiled and walked up to Tega who quickly smiled to hide his jealousy. “He saved me.
Though it wasn’t easy coz my enemy stabbed me really bad,” she said and eyed Thelma at the corner of her eyes.

“Oh! So I actually fought someone who saved my love’s life,” Richard said and walked up to Tega and knelt infront of him, “I’m sorry, please forgive me,” he apologised.

“It’s alright, we’re cool,” Tega smiled in pretence and pulled him up…

Minutes later, the authorities arrived the forest, well armed with different weapons but fortunately the fight was over so they only shook hands with Tega and his men, then they all walked out of the forest to where the SUV’s and hilluxes were parked. Then they all entered the car and drove straight, heading back to the camp but no one knew Tega was the cause of their defeat, not even Lucy except Thelma…

INSIDE THE CAR

Tega sat beside Richard still smiling in pretence. Then he turned to him and asked, “Who is Lucy to you?”

“Wow! My girlfriend of coz, I plan on getting married to her once am back home,” Richard smiled gleefully.

“Your girlfriend!” Tega chuckled. “As a good guy, I advice you stay off her or be prepared to die young,” he warned seriously.

“Why?” Richard wanted to know.

“Coz she’s mine and only mine,” Tega answered and looked out of the car window to show he didn’t want to dwell on the topic…
