After some minutes, he cleared his throat and spoke “Ma, I would not want you to be worried. I will look into this and make sure it never happens again. I don’t want anything to happen to my daughter Alex, she is the only one I have.” He smiled.

I watched his jaw unclench, a muscle tickling under his left eye.

“Mom, Can Detola follow me somewhere? I promise to bring her back very soon” he said with pleading eyes.

“She is free to go, but please don’t let her return home late like that of Friday, that dinner was rather too long, she came back at to 12” “Mommy, that’s an exaggeration, it was around 11 when I got back” I said, kneading the space between my brows.

“Ehnehn? Madam timer, So I don’t know what am saying niyen o. Alex look at this girl o,she’s calling me a liar”

Alex laughed boisterously, his laughter was rich and ironic. I did a tongue out and excused myself, swaying my hips left and right. I returned two minutes later with my purse underneath my armpit.

“We can go now” I said and bade my mom a goodbye. I got outside before him and waited by the door. It was locked so I couldn’t get in. He came outside a few seconds later and unlocked the door. I hopped in and waited for him to come in.

‘What’s with the slow motion like this na’ I questioned inwardly.

He entered and started driving.There was a mix of hurt and sadness on his face.

“Do you know how to drive?” He broke the silence.

“No,I never got a chance to learn” I answered and wondered why he asked me.

“When do you intend to learn and buy your own car?” ” I don’t intend to anytime soon, besides I just started working and haven’t had my first salary. Obviously, there’s no how I can buy one now” I replied him.

“How old are you Detola” He asked, his warm eyes peering at me.

Was he high on something or what? Who asks a grown up lady of her age these days? I scoffed and looked away.

“You haven’t answered me” ‘Dey there and continue asking me Jamb question’ I muttered silently, cocking my head to the side and pretending like I was distracted by my phone. He never asked me that question again. He got the drift I guessed.

“But you know I’ll know if I want to know. Am your boss”

I scoffed again and buried my head down, chatting with my friends on Whatsapp. “Are you on the branch’s whatsapp group?” He asked.

“No”I replied curtly.

“I’ll add you on the group chat okay?” It was actually more of a statement than a question. I shrugged and went back to replying my messages.

After about twenty minutes, he pulled in front of his house.”And why are we here?” I asked, pointing to the house with confusion flustered on my face. “C’mon Tola, I just want us to talk at my garden, watch some movies and talk before I drive you back home” He replied as he parked his car at the car lot.His gatekeeper hailed him and he replied him with smiles.
