Must Read: Awkward Ways I Met Girls

I felt a lot of pity for Vicky that night. We had grown to be friends. And I find myself going an extra mile for her tonight.

Although she had tried to eat at Vera’s she couldn’t eat much but kept calling and receiving calls. Her mom had called to make sure she was okay at Vera’s place.

She la!d on the bed and I sat on the seat in her room like I was watching over a child sleeping peacfeully. Only that this child couldn’t sleep. So I went over and sat on the bed with her. I held her close and tried to sweet-talk her, tease her, comfort her and everything to give hope that he would get better. She tried to call her mom at the hospital but she wasn’t picking. She had shrugged that maybe she had slept.

The time must have been maybe some minutes before 1A.M when suddenly, the sound of horn got us properly awake. We must’ve been dozing.

Vicky picked up her phone and dialed and a while later, dropped the phone
“She’s not picking”
“Its nothing. She should be asleep”
“True. Only that that is the sound of her horn”
Well, till she comes in, you’d go see her. She probably changed her plan and decided to come rest at home too. She too needs rest”
She nodded in agreement.

A moment later, we heard the gates open and a car drive in. Then movements et al.

The car doors shut, the gate closed and the bolts clicked lock. And it was quiet again.

After about 10minutes, Vicky decided to go meet her mom and find out developments.

She opened the door and stepped into the doorway. As she was about to close door behind her, she froze.

The way she froze shocked alerted me. I stood up and immediately came to the door where she stood and looked in the direction she was looking towards. Down the corridor. I saw a wheelchair at the far end of the corridor, in front of a door. Another door was adjacent. And to the opposite side, behind us is the sitting room. I was looking down the corridor still confused at what made her freeze.

In a hushed voice, Vicky said
“My mom’s wheelchair”
“Oh. She has two?”
“Yes. But this is the same one she was with at the hospital.”
“You think someone has hurt her?”
She was quiet. Mute. Just staring
“Something is wrong” she said
I didn’t quite understand.

Are there thieves? Have they hurt her mom?

Just then we heard footsteps coming. Scared, Vicky hurried past me into the room. But I had become curious to know what was going on. If we ran into the room and closed the door might be worse. I wanted to see. According to Vicky, this is the elctronic wheelchairher mom used at the hospital. Had she come home and switched to another. Won’t the switch take place in her room, or something. Why is it left carelessly on the corridor, unfolded.

So I ran instead, into the living room and hide behind the curtain to the closest window to the door from where I could clearly see the corridor.
Just then, my jaws dropped. My eyes opened wider and I instantly developed a headache.
I couldn’t understand what I was seeing.

A tall Mrs Margaret Carte-Ado was comfortably walking down the corridor, unaided. She was holding a teacup from which she sipped as she walked. She walked past the wheelchair, kicked it aside, opened the door and went in. Vicky’s mom could walk?!!
I was shocked beyond recognition.
