Sequence 19-21

Passing the baby as my own, I flew to Durban.
Upon arrival, I went straight to St. Thomas Home For Children.

“I found this baby at my doorstep.” I told the nun that was in charge of the orphanage that day. “I don’t have the resources to cater for his needs neither do I know who his real parents are so I decided to bring him here.”

“You did well.” the nun replied, getting the baby from my hands. “He’s such a cute little angel and seems to be so young. Who in their right mind would dump such a lovely gift on someone’s doorstep? What is this world turning into?”

“You can say that again oooh.” I said, feigning sympathy. “But I have a request. In fact two.”

“Which are?”
“That you ensure the child is adopted by a well to do and loving family and that you call him Andrew.”

I had always wanted to name my son after my father, Andrew.
“Sure.” the nun flashed a smile. “We always ensure the child is adopted by such a family.”

“Thank you so much, sister?”
“Sister Ruth.” she flatly said.
“Sister Ruth.”

The following day, I was back in Zambia and went for work early in the morning. Upon my arrival, I noticed Nancy had just been released from the hospital. I stepped over the threshold of the living room and the sight I saw gave me pleasure. It made me feel in control of the lives of the four traitors.
Nancy was seated on a couch, her head buried in her palms, sobbing. Jason, Cynthia and Justin were seated around her, consoling her.

“What wrong have I done to deserve this?” said Nancy, glancing up at the people surrounding her. Her eyes were red and swollen, I guessed she had been crying so bad lately.

You betrayed me. That’s what you did wrong.

Inside, I did a happy dance.

This is just the beginning, I thought. By the time am through with you all, you’ll cry blood. This one, Nancy, is for pretending to be my friend for all those years and backstabbing me like you did.

“Shhh,” said Jason, “I’ll find our son. I’ll sue that hospital if I have to. But I promise you one thing. I’ll definitely find our son, even if that’s the last thing I do! And I’ll find whoever kidnapped our baby and make them pay for this. I swear!”

I couldn’t help but smile. “You are more than welcome to stage a manhunt for me, Jason.” I mouthed quietly, leaving the threshold of the living room and going to the kitchen…
