Monster Unleashed - Season 1 - Episode 3

.
“Just saw Cynthia leaving your room.” said Nancy curtly, entering my room. “She looks like she’s gonna burst with anger.”
“Serves her right.” I replied at once, frowning. “She called dad a fool and I gave her one hot slap that she’ll remember for years to come.”

Nancy and I decided to use my my car when going to the court. The case we were going to had come up about two months back when a rival real estate company, Banda and Sons Company Ltd sued our company claiming one of the land we owned belonged to them.
As we left our yard, Nancy behind the wheel, we almost collided into another car which was headed for our yard. I told Nancy to stop the car and roll down the window.

The man in the other car stopped his and rolled down his window.

“Goodmorning.” said the man loudly.
He was handsome even though I couldn’t see his eyes cause he was wearing sunglasses.

“Morning.” said Nancy and I in unison.
“Is this where Cynthia lives?” he asked.
Before Nancy or I could answer, he said, “foolish me. It’s obvious it’s here. Miss,” said the man, smiling and gesturing at me, “you look a lot like her. Am guessing you are her sister.”

“Yes.” I replied, leaning over Nancy cause the man’s car was parked on Nancy’s side.
“Nice to meet you.” he said briskly, “am Justin. Is she in?”

“Nice to meet you too, Justin.” I said, flashing the guy a smile. “Am guessing you have her line, why don’t you give her a call?”
The guy chuckled and irritated, I wondered what was funny. “Already done that. She ain’t picking up. She and I had a little fight last night and I’ve come to apologize.”
“That explains why she’s been in such a sour mood since morning.” muttered Nancy.
“Well,” I said, leaning back, “we are actually headed somewhere and are running late. Good luck with your apology.”
“Thanks.” said Justin, grinning.
I told Nancy to roll the window back up.
“I pity the poor guy.” said Nancy, revving the engine. “He doesn’t know the type he’s involving himself with.”
“Maybe Cynthia isn’t so ill tempered towards her boyfriends.” I said. “Have you reminded my lawyer about the court hearing?”

“Yes.” said Nancy, literally flying the car cause we were running late. “He’s already at the court.”

When we arrived at the court, we parked our car in the parking lot and rushed in.
I sighed when I noticed the hearing hadn’t begun.

“Let’s ask Mr Martin how the situation is.” I told Nancy, ushering her to the front of the court. Mr Martin who was my company lawyer rushed towards Nancy and when he saw us, said,

“The Bandas aren’t here yet but their lawyer is.” he was ushering us to the front pew.
“I hope they’ve chickened out.” I said.
“Well,” said Nancy, poking me in the back, “seems they haven’t. Look there.”
She was gesturing towards the entrance. A tall dark skinned handsome man walked in, in his wake was a lady I guessed was his secretary and a man whom I couldn’t place a guess as to what role he played in Jason’s life.
“Am guessing that’s Jason Banda.” I said to Mr Martin. I had heard a lot about the guy but had never met him.
He nodded. “That’s him. The rich snob!”
Jason approached us and extended his right hand. “Am Jason.” he said, grinning slightly. His smile was mesmerizing and his cologne breathtaking. So all the rumours were true? This guy was an Adonis! The dimples on his cheeks were simply amazing.
“Am Cathy.” I said, finding my voice and fighting to keep it steady.

“Am sorry we have to meet under such circumstances.” said Jason. “Anyway,” he added, gesturing to the man opposite him, “This is my friend, Bwalya. And that’s my secretary, Agnes.”

But I wasn’t interested in the intros, I just wanted to get this land case over with. Besides, I had another meeting at Radison Blu hotel this afternoon so the sooner we got done with the case, the better.

Quarter an hour later, everyone essential to the case was in the court and the hearing began. Let me spare you the details of the hearing. The session lasted over half an hour with my company providing evidence to say they were the sole owners of the land and the Banda company doing the same.

After what seemed like an eternity, it was time for judgement to be past.
“After listening to both parties,” said the judge, glaring from the Bandas who were seated on my right to us, “and thoroughly going through the evidence, I’ve come to the conclusion that-” he paused and I kept on silently praying cause for some reason, this piece of land was extremely important to my late father. “The Bandas are the rightful owners of the land.”

Jason’s lawyer flashed a smile but I don’t know why but Jason didn’t seem to be happy about their victory. Nancy who sat on my side clicked her tongue loudly. “This judgement isn’t fair,” she whispered, “something’s fishy here. You and I know our company is-”
“I know.” I irritably said, cutting her short as Martin paced up and down the courtroom.
“Court dismissed!” announced the judge.
“Am sorry,” said Mr Martin, his eyes sincere, “I tried my best.”

“You should have-” Nancy began but I held up my hand and stopped her from chastising the lawyer.

“I understand.” I said, tears welling in my eyes. “These guys are shady. Am certain they bribed-”

“The Jason idiot is headed our way.” said Nancy, scowling.
“I don’t know where to start.” said Jason warily when he reached where we were standing.
“You don’t have to say anything.” I said, fighting hard not to hurl insults at him.
Oh how much I hate this son of a b---h! “You’ve won, fair and square. The land is now rightfully yours. Congrats!” I added, forcing a smile.

“Thanks.” said Jason softly. “You have a kind heart and seem like an understanding woman. I would love it if we became friends. Business partners maybe?”
What a womanizer this guy is! He’s indirectly chaffing me in the presence of the lawyer and my cousin/
secretary.

I extended my right hand. “Friends.” I feigned a smile.
“Friends.” said Jason softly, shaking my hand.
“Can we meet for dinner tonight?” he asked, letting go of my hand and placing his in his pocket.
Ok this guy is so full of himself! “Sure.” I replied.
I could see both Mr Martin and Nancy glare at me like I were some lunatic but I knew what I was doing.
“My secretary will call yours and give her the venue.” said Jason curtly, “Or better, I’ll pick you up. 5 PM on the dot. Your office.”
I nodded and watched him walk out of the court deep in conversation with his friend.
“Are you crazy?” said Nancy angrily as she revved the engine. We were on our way to my office. “Why on earth would you literally accept to go with that rich snob on a date?!”
I stared at her and smiled. “My dear cousin,” I said, hitting her playfully on the shoulder, “a wise man once said, ‘keep your friends close but your enemies closer.’ ”

Meet Jason….

Any predictions as to what type of person he might be?
