Unbreakable Love - Season 1 - Episode 13

*Love is a promise and souvenir. Once given never forgotten and let it disappear*

It’s early in the morning and Adela was busy washing her dishes when her phone rang. She put on smile on her face before answering the call.

“Hello, handsome,” she responded with her melodious voice.

“My queen. How are you this morning? I am sorry I left early but I assume you had your breakfat that I prepared for you.”

“I did, such a pity you were not around to eat with me. I miss you so badly.”

“I miss you to my princess. Are my parents around?”

“Only your mum. I better get back to work before she finds me talking on the phone. I will be in big trouble.”

“Okay. I love you,” he said.

“I love you too. Bye!” she hanged up and put her phone in her pocket.

She finished washing the dishes. She was about to sit on the chair in the kitchen when she walked in.

“You haven’t finished doing your household echoes. My clothes need to be washed. If you finish washing them. I need you to prepare the guest room. We are having visitors today. I have found a girl for my son.”

“What?!” exclaimed Adela dropping the water glass she had been holding on the floor, breaking into pieces.

She glared moving close to her and slapped her hard on the cheek.

“How dare you break my water glass?!” she yelled. “Do you know how much I bought it? You can’t even afford the money.”

“I am sorry madam,” she apologised her hand on her cheek. “I didn’t mean to I am sorry. I am so sorry,” She picked the glasses.
“Idiot!” She walked out of the kitchen.

Adela sat on the floor tears streaming down on her cheek. She wasn’t crying because of the pain on her cheek. No, she was crying of what she had heard. She loved Stevie more than anything in the whole world. She didn’t want to lose him. Not to some girl. She wiped her tears and went to wash Angela’s clothes.

At around 6pm she started preparing dinner with Gloria in the kitchen.

“You are quite today,” said Gloria peeling the potatoes.
Adela did not answer her.
“Adela!” she called out disrupting her from her thoughts
“Ma!” she responded.
“What is wrong?” she asked concerned.
“Nothing, ma. I am just tired,” she lied.
They finished cooking and at around 7pm the guests had arrived. She was dark in complexion and very pretty. She sat on the chair with legs crossed. She was slight, petite and yet she carried herself with both pride and grace and wore a modest, high-necked, long sleeved dress of pale blue silk belted tightly at the waist, an understated strand of pearls at her throat. He opened the door and BOOM! their eyes met. Surprised to see her and he didn’t like her. The girl who had made his life a living hell at high school.

“Miley!” he exclaimed.
She immediately rose from the chair walked up to him and gave him a hug.
“I missed you so much,” she whispered.
He didn’t respond. In the sitting room sat Stevie’s parents and Miley’s mother. They went to sit on the sofa and she sat beside him.
“You two look good together,” said Angela loudly.

Stevie faked a smile. Later on they went to sit on the dinner table. When Adela walked in with the food, Stevie looked at her. He wanted to hug her, kiss her and tell her that he loved her.

“Stevie!” called out his mother. “Do you know that Miley just graduated with a degree in medicine.”

“Congratulations!”
Adela walked to where Miley sat.
“Champagne please,” she ordered.
As Adela poured the champagne in the glass. Miley poured it on her dress by purpose.
“My dress. Look what you have done.”
Adela just stared at her.
“But you…..”
“Shut up!” shouted Angela. “Can’t you keep your eyes focused on one place. Apologise to her.”
“I am sorry,” she ran to the kitchen.
She inhaled deeply.
“What happened?” asked Gloria.
“The lady poured the champagne on her dress and said that I did. I don’t know why she did that,” she said in tears.
“Shhhh it’s okay. Go take a break. I will finish off.”
¤
“Tell me why you are here, Miley,” he wanted to hear it from her own mouth, those tightly pursed lips.

A slight pause, and then she answered, her voice low and steady.
“To discuss the possibility of a marriage between us.”
“What?!”
“Yes! Your mum wants you to marry me. D--n, that s--t messed up my dress. Nice room you have Stevie. Still leaving with your parents,” she said looking around.

“I am not going to marry you. Never! Get out of my room if you have finished wiping that champagne,” he walked out on her, yanked the door open.

He needed to see Adela after what had happened. He went to the kitchen and found Gloria. Their parents were busy chating in the sitting room.

“Auntie! Where is Adela?”
“Hmm I think outside.”
“Okay,” he went outside using the kitchen door.

Adela sat on the verandah.
“Hey!”
She quickly wiped her tears.
“Where you crying?”
“No!” she said with a low voice.
“Let’s go to my car.”
They got inside the car and he drove off.
