Hired Bride - Season 1 - Episode 29

☆☆

No matter how many times Mason refused and told his mom, she had decided and made up her mind. She was going to stay in his penthouse for next few days until she flies to Japan for work. Whether Edward stayed with her or not, Victoria was determined to stay at Mason’s penthouse and help Kelsey with the wedding. So this brought Kelsey and Mason to stay in the same room, which was the original plan, to prevent Victoria from getting suspicious of both of them. Kelsey had just finished taking a shower and was pivoting with her shirt and standing awkwardly by the door of the bathroom. Mason was reading some proposals with his reading glasses on. ‘There is nothing hotter than a man wearing eyeglasses, looking intellectual and sexy at the same time.’ Kelsey thought and cursed herself for being affected and attracted to his looks once again. Mason sensed her presence and looked up from his work. He squinted his eyes and tilted his head to the side as he watched her. He thought that she looked really adorable in her pink, bunny pajamas and v-neck white shirt. They made eye contact but Kelsey couldn’t handle his stare that she had to shift her head to avoid his hypnotizing orbs. She then saw a couch in the corner of the room and started strolling towards it. Mason studied her actions and followed her with his eyes. Kelsey then plopped herself down on the couch and comfortably position herself. She was really tired from the long day they had trying to prepare everything for the wedding that she felt like collapsing and sleeping for ten days straight. Mason placed the folder on the night stand together with his glasses. He took the duvet off and strolled towards the couch. He towered over her and she felt the dark shadow over her closed lids. She slowly opened her eyes and met his. “What are you doing?” He asked her in wonder. “Sleeping.” She simply answered. “I’m really tired. You should sleep too, I’m sure you had a long day at work.” She said as she once again closed her eyes. “You’re not sleeping on the couch, Kelsey. It’s uncomfortable.” He told her as she opened her lids again. “I’m fine, Mason. It’s not uncomfortable at all.”

She argued. “Yes, it is. Besides, what if my mother barges in, in the middle of the night.

I’m sure she will find it suspicious that you’re sleeping on the couch and she’ll probably beat me up for letting you sleep there when I should’ve been a gentleman.” Kelsey just stared at him for a few seconds without uttering a word as she let his words process in her head. She was very tired and she just really wanted to sleep that her mind found it hard to process information. She blinked before responding once the information settled in her mind. “Just lock the door.” She pointed out as she closed her eyes in tiredness. Mason sighed at her stubbornness and placed his hands on his hips. He studied her for a minute, contemplating what to do with her.

Once he made up his mind, he scooped her up and carried her. A small squeal escaped Kelsey’s mouth and she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. “What are you doing? Mason, put me down!” She demanded as she glared at him. Mason only chuckled at her cute attempt to act angry. “Mason!” She barked. Mason strolled towards the bed and gently lay her down. He placed the duvet over her and went around the bed to climb on the other side. He pulled the duvet over himself and placed a pillow in between the two of them. “There.

This is our boundary line. I promise to not cross it and I promise to not touch you. That is, of course, if you ask me to.” He joked and Kelsey only glared at him. He chuckled once again and turned the lamp by the night stand off. “Good night, Kelsey.” He last uttered before dozing off to a peaceful sleep.

Kelsey had the most peaceful sleep she could ever have. She felt comfortable and relax as if she was lying on a bed of clouds. She sighed in contentment and cuddled closer to the warmness of the pillow. A groan echoed in the room and Kelsey felt a sq££ze on her shoulder. As if her mind clicked and registered, she slowly opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was the dark atmosphere of the room and she then realized that she wasn’t in her room but in Mason’s. “As much as I love this position, you’re kind of heavy.” Mason’s groggy yet manly voice uttered. It was as if her mind was fully awake and was jolted by a splash of icy water. Kelsey rapidly sat up and realized that she had been lying down on Mason’s warm and toned body. Her eyes widened in surprise and she quickly pulled herself up and sprinted towards the bathroom. She shut the door and locked it and heard Mason’s laughter before she completely closed it.

Mason loved teasing her. She wasn’t heavy at all, in fact, she was very light but she had been lying on his arm that it became numbed overnight. Part of the reason he wanted her to let go was because his little friend down there was acting up and was getting affected by Kelsey’s closeness. It was an entertaining way to waking up, indeed.

~ * ~ * ~ After taking a shower, Kelsey dressed up and got ready for work. Mason occupied the bathroom right after she finished and she realized that he was probably late for work since they woke up pretty late. It was already seven o’clock when they woke up. Kelsey went downstairs and greeted Georgia and Victoria a good morning. She sat opposite Victoria on the dinning table and drank the coffee Georgia had prepared for her. “Good morning, dear.

How was your sleep?” Victoria asked with a knowing look as she took a sip of her tea. “It was fine. How was yours? I hope you were comfortable?” She hoped in hospitality. “It was lovely, dear. Thank you for letting me stay. I know my son doesn’t like me being here but I’m glad that you took my side last night.” Kelsey warmly smiled at her. “You are his mother after all. The least thing he could do is let you stay here after you went through a 24 hour labour to give birth to him.” She joked and Victoria chuckled at her intelligent yet funny joke. Mason came rushing downstairs in his suit. There was nothing better than staring at a god-like figure in a full tuxedo and eye glasses that made him look intellectual and sexy. Mason was putting his wrist watch on and was trying to fix his necktie. Kelsey stood from her chair and strolled towards him. She stood in front of him and fixed his necktie by properly tying it.

Victoria watched the exchange between the two and couldn’t help but feel giddy and happy for the two of them. Once Kelsey was done fixing his tie, he took the briefcase by the couch and kissed his mother on the cheek. “Good morning, mom.” “Mornin’, sweetheart.” She greed back. “I’ll be leaving now. I have a lot to do at work today.” He announced and a frown made its way to Kelsey’s lips. “But you haven’t even eaten breakfast.” She pouted and Mason was tempted to grab and kiss her with all his might. He had to refrain himself from doing so. “I have a meeting at 10, hun.” He said and Kelsey felt the butterflies in her stomach by Mason’s chosen pet name for her. “But that’s not for another three hours.” She argued. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you shouldn’t miss it. Besides, Georgia had to wake up early just so she can prepare some breakfast for us. What a wasted effort.” She said trying to tripped-guilt him. And it totally worked. Mason sighed and reluctantly sat at the head of the table. Kelsey smiled in triumphed and Victoria stared at them in amusement. Mason was very well whipped for Kelsey and Victoria couldn’t help but feel proud of Kelsey for having such a great influence on him. Victoria knew her son. Whatever he wanted, he would get it his way. He never listened to anyone and once he had set his mind on something, he usually stuck to it. But Kelsey seemed to have the power to change his mind. Whatever spell she casted upon him must be very effective. They started eating and Kelsey remembered that Ella have invited them to Lance’s movie premier night. She had to remind Mason about it. “Oh, I almost forgot.” She started. “Tonight’s Lance’s movie premier night and we have to attend.” Mason paused his eating and tilted his head to the side. “Kelsey, I’m a very busy person-” He started but was cut off by Kelsey. “Yes, a busy person who prioritizes his family first.” Mason shot her a look that says, ‘Don’t push it’, but Kelsey only side-glanced at his mother who was watching both of them intently. “Besides, I think your father’s gonna be there.” She continued and Mason’s body stiffened in response.

Victoria suddenly felt the tension forming in the room at the mention of her husband. “I think it’s time that you apologize to him and forget what happened.” Mason glared at Kelsey, boring holes on her forehead. “Me? Me?!” He started yelling in annoyance. “Why should I apologize? It wasn’t my fault, I was just trying to defend you!” “Why can’t you be the bigger person?” Kelsey bit back. “Why are you asking me to apologize to something I didn’t do?!” Victoria felt that the argument was starting to turn into a big fight. She didn’t want the two to quarrel because of what her husband have done. “Mason, Kelsey.” She said as she looked between the two of them.

Kelsey and Mason turned their attention towards her. “That’s enough you two. Not in front of the food.” She warned them.

Kelsey kept her head bowed and spoke gently. “I just wanted you and your father to make up. I don’t like the fact that the two of you are in a fight because of me. It’s slowly killing my conscience.” She admitted and lightly stood up from her chair, avoiding eye contact with Mason. “I’ll be going first.” She told Victoria and left the room. Victoria glared at his son and shot him an accusing look. Mason sighed in frustration and ran a hand through his face. “I’m leaving.” He announced as he stood up and left to get his briefcase by the couch and hurriedly followed Kelsey. When he was out of door, he ran towards the elevator but it shut closed in his face. The last thing he saw was the tear falling out of Kelsey’s eye. At the moment, he just hated himself. _______
