Unexpected Wealth Episode 5
It was a bright Sunday afternoon when Kemi arrived at Chief Eze's mansion. She was Titi's close friend from church, and she hadn't visited in a long time. Titi welcomed her with smiles and told the maid to serve drinks and food. While they were catching up in the living room, Temi walked in. He greeted both women respectfully and sat quietly on a side chair. Kemi watched him carefully. After he left the room, Kemi leaned closer to Titi and whispered, "Who is that boy? He doesn't look like a servant.
Titi smiled calmly. "He's my stepson," she replied. "His name is Temi. My husband had him many years ago with another woman. We just found out about him recently. The DNA test confirmed everything. Since then, he has been living here with us."
Kemi looked confused. "So you agreed to let him stay? Just like that?" Titi nodded.
"Yes. I see it as a blessing. I've not been able to have children of my own, and the house has
always felt empty. Now, it feels like I have a son."
Kemi dropped her glass and shook her head. "Titi, I can't believe this. Are you sure this is the right decision? You are welcoming another woman's child into your marriage? Don't you know how dangerous that is? That woman can come back and take over your husband completely. You will be left with nothing."
Titi frowned. "Victoria is not like that. She seems like a good woman. She raised Temi well and doesn't look like someone interested in my marriage. She even thanked me for accepting her son."
Kemi hissed and leaned closer. "That's how they behave in the beginning. They will pretend to be nice, then gradually start entering the family. Before you know it, your husband will stop listening to you. Temi will grow and take over everything. You will become a stranger in your own home. I know women like Victoria. She already has your husband's child. What else is left? You better open your eyes now before it's too late."
Titi tried to remain calm. "But Chief gave her a house and two jeeps. He even gave her N50 million to start a business. I don't think she wants more than that."
Kemi's was surprised. "Fifty what? Naira? He gave her all that? Titi, this is serious. That woman is already taking over. And you are sitting here doing nothing. You better wake up. Once Victoria and her son fully settle in, you will be pushed aside like yesterday's news. You have to act fast."
Titi shifted in her seat. Her face grew serious. "So what do you suggest I do, Kemi? Temi is already in this house. Chief is excited about him. He's even taking him around the companies. How do I chase him away without causing trouble?"
Kemi sipped her drink and spoke slowly. "You don't have to act in a rush. Just start small. Begin to make the boy uncomfortable. Talk to Chief. Plant small doubts in his mind. Make Victoria look suspicious. Once confusion starts, everything else will follow."
Titi nodded slowly. Her thoughts were now clouded with fear. "But what if Chief finds out I'm the one behind it? That could destroy everything."
Kemi laughed. "That's why you need to be smart. Don't do anything directly. Use people. Use words. Use actions that look innocent but are deep. Women have power. Use yours wisely. This is your home, Titi. Don't let another woman take what belongs to you." Titi sat quietly, thinking deeply. She never imagined that what seemed like a blessing could turn into a threat.
Later that evening, after Kemi had left, Titi sat alone in her room. Her mind was filled with thoughts. She remembered the way Chief looked at Victoria with respect. She remembered how happy he was to have a son. She thought about the laughter in the house lately and how it was because of Temi. She started to feel uneasy. Kemi's words had planted something in her heart. She picked her phone and dialed a number. "Hello, Kemi. You were right. I need to do something. Can you visit me tomorrow? We need to talk."
Kemi agreed to come.
The next morning, Kemi came to the house very early. They sat in the garden and began to plan. "First," Kemi said, "we will find a way to separate Victoria and Temi from Chief. If we can make Chief doubt their loyalty, everything else will follow. Do you have access to Temi's room?" Titi nodded. "Yes, I do. I can enter when he's not around." Kemi smiled. "Good. We'll take it one step at a time. But I assure you, before long, both of them will leave this house. You will have your peace again."
As the sun rose over the mansion, Titi stood by the window, watching Temi and Chief laugh in the compound. She clenched her hands together. What started as joy was now fear. She once saw Temi as a blessing. Now, she saw him as a threat. She looked back at Kemi and said, "I'm ready. Let us do it." And so, the plan to bring down Victoria and Temi began. The peace in the mansion was about to be replaced with something darker. And no one, not even Temi, saw it coming.
