“Mom, what are you doing here?”

“Is that a question?” She retorted.

“Ugh.” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “If your visit has anything to do with the current situation at_”

“What is really going on in this hospital, son?” She cut him off, sitting down on the chair opposite him. “Do you know how worried your father and I are? This catastrophe can tarnish the image of the family hospital.”

“I know.”

“No, you don’t.” She shook her head. “Because if you do, then you will be more careful. Murder took place in this same hospital two years ago… I thought it was finally over and we can all forget about it and move on, only for another murder to take place again two years later. Families will start redrawing their sick relatives from here due to fear of them getting killed if care is not taken.”

“I know…” Jersey muttered in a quiet voice, seeming frustrated and tired. He could feel a headache already forming in his head. The current situation at the hospital was driving him crazy and his mother wasn’t making it any better.

Everything she was saying right now was something he already knows. Like seriously, who wouldn’t know the repercussion of a murder case in a hospital?

He can’t forget the heavy blow the hospital’s reputation suffered two years ago during the time of those murders taking place. It really affected the finances of the hospital as families started transferring their sick relatives to other hospitals because as his mother had just said, they were afraid of them (sick relatives) getting killed one day.

If not because of how strong and how many billions the hospital already made, they would have definitely suffered bankruptcy.

“All this thing didn’t happen during the term of your father…”

Jersey gave her a bored and annoyed look. “Are you really going to do this now?”

She sighed. “I’m sorry. I promised not to compare your work with that of your father’s.” She studied him carefully. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I’m just feeling a slight headache.” He whispered, ma-ssaging his temple.

“Take aspirin for it.” She suggested.

“I will do that later.”

“Ranting and pa-ssing blame won’t solve the situation and I’m sorry for doing that. Your father planned on coming over by himself but due to his health crisis, he couldn’t.” She said in a calm voice now.

Jersey simply nodded his head, staying quiet.

“What do you intend on doing now, son? Do you think the murder will continue?”

He shrugged. “I honestly don’t know, mother. I’m tired and confused about why this is all happening. The detectives guaranteed to do a good job this time around and catch the culprit they weren’t able to two years ago.”

“Wait,” She paused. “are you saying the murderer of two years ago is the same as recent?” She questioned and he nodded his head as a yes. “What!?”

“I know, right? Nothing adds up here. Why is the murderer back? Why did he or she stop killing only to continue now? What is his or her identity? Why did the murderer kill the teenage girl?” He heaved out a de-ep breath. “I have a lot on my mind to the point where I don’t know what to think anymore, Mother.” He hissed lowly when the headache sharpened.

“Hey,” His mother rushed to stand by his side and started ma-ssaging his head. “You should take aspirin.”

“Hmm.” He opened the desk drawer, snatched a sachet of painkiller drugs, popped out two pills, and threw them inside his mouth. He swallowed and gulped water from the bottle of water his mother handed to him and she proceeded with ma-ssaging his head.

“How do you feel now?” She asked him.

“I will be fine. You don’t have to ma-ssage my_”

“No. Let me.” She insisted. “Since the detectives are taking the matter seriously, I don’t think we have anything to worry about. I only hope that the murderer is caught this time around. Our family hospital can’t keep being in jeopardy.”

“Yeah…”

“Good afternoon, Nurse Thelma, right?” Emma smiled as she stood in front of the young woman dressed in a nurse uniform.

“Yes.” She nodded her head. “You must be the detective in charge of the murder case, I guess?”

“Yes, I am.”

Robert and Ginny were asking other nurses present that night questions – It was more like Ginny following Robert around as he asked them questions.

While Emma was in charge of asking Thelma questions.

“Okay. Do you want to ask me any questions?”

“Oh, yes. You seem to know how these things work.”

“Of course. The murders that took place two years ago taught me a lot.” She stated.

“I see.” Emma pulled out a jotter and pen. “So I don’t need to tell you to be honest about the answers you give me, right?”

Thelma smiled. “Sure.”

“You were the one who found the patient dead, right?” Emma started the interrogation.

“Yes, I was.”

“Can you explain to me how you found it?”

“I was going into every patient’s ward to make sure they were fine and comfortable. Ward 302 was also one of the wards I entered to check up on her. She was lying on the bed… Honestly, I wouldn’t have known that she was dead if I hadn’t stepped forward to collect the flowers Dr. Abby bought for her from the ground. It was lying carelessly there and I know the teenage girl wouldn’t have possibly thrown them on the floor because everyone knows how much she adores Dr. Abby. Including the things Dr. Abby gets for her.” Thelma inhaled a de-ep breath. “However, I noticed the trail of blood by the side of her li-ps so I tried to wake her up,” The young nurse sadly shook her head as memories of that night flooded back into her head. “she didn’t wake up. I checked her pulse, pressed my ear on her chest to listen to her heartbeat but…but they were silent.”

Emma was doing everything possible to be strong and not break down in tears in front of the nurse.

“How…many nurses were present that night?” Emma asked.

“Ten of us including myself.” She replied.

“What about the doctors?”

“Dr. Abby, Dr. Sandra, Dr. Marshall, Dr. Finley, Dr. Rose, Dr. Kennedy, Dr. Jose…” She mentioned five other doctors’ names. “Those were the ones who weren’t present that night.” She responded.

“How many doctors in total work in this hospital?”

Thelma calculated them in her head before answering. “Twenty-five doctors in total.”

‘That means fifteen doctors didn’t have their day off.’ Emma thought to herself as she jotted down a reminder about meeting up with the doctors to ask them questions.

“Did you notice anything strange that night…?” She asked.

“Well…not really.” It was silent for a few seconds. “Actually, something strange happened.”

“What?”

“One of the absentee doctors dropped by at the hospital that night dressed in an overall black attire.”

That spiked up Emma’s interest. “Which of them?”
