{ BACK TO CASE 001 }

It was dead silent for a moment until Marshall’s loud laughter filled the large office.

He clutched his stomach, throwing his head back as he laughed himself to tears.

Abby stood in front of him looking like a complete idiot.

What was funny?

Why was he laughing?

Did she crack a joke? Does she look like one playing with words right now? Was he making a mockery of her? She was perplexed and she hated the fact that the bastard had the upper hand at this point.

He cleared up his throat as he finally stopped laughing, staring at her with amusement dancing in his eyes.

“Are you okay?” He asked, raising a questioning brow at her.

“Excuse me?” She frowned.

“Don’t be stupid, Dr. Abby. You came all the way here to accuse me of killing my patient. Doesn’t that sound funny to you?”

“I know you, Marshall. You will do anything to hurt me! I know you!” She spoke.

“No, you don’t know me, Miss Abigail. Don’t act like you fuc-k ing do because you don’t.”

Abby stayed silent.

“I didn’t kill Ward 302 and even if I wanted to… I wouldn’t do it just to spite,” He looked at her from head to toe. “you.”

“What then happened to her? How did she die? It makes no sense that a healthy teenage girl will die in the middle of the night.”

“I know, right?” He tilted his head to the side. “Which makes me wonder what really happened while I was absent.” He took a step close to her. “I heard about the goodies you bought for the patient. You didn’t give her something she was allergic to, did you?”

“What are you driving at, Marshall?” She snarled, shooting daggers at him throu-ghher eyes. If Look could kill, Marshall would be 6ft below.

He shrugged, shoving his hands inside his pan-ts pocket. “I am not trying to point an accusing finger at you, beautiful. I was only thinking out loud. I mean, how come did she die the same night you bought ‘goodies’ for her? Was it a coincidence?” He pursed his li-ps, gazing de-eply into her eyes.

Abigail gulped audibly, clenching and unclenching her fist. Why didn’t she think this thing throu-gh? She was more of a suspect than Marshall and Sandra were.

Marshall saw the uneasiness and fear settling in her eyes and that gave him more confidence.

“I told you to stay away from my patient, didn’t I?”

“I didn’t kill her.” She said. “I will never hurt Tara.”

“I never said you did. Anyone could be the murderer. After all, this isn’t the first time a murder is taking place in this hospital.”

The frown on Abby’s face de-epened and she looked super confused. “Murder has been going on in this hospital? What are you talking about?”

“Wait a minute. You didn’t know?” He chuckled, shaking his head. “Like come on! You thought the death of your patients two years ago was normal?”

Abigail stayed silent as she processed his words, reminiscing about the past event now.

Marshall continued talking, “Five of your patients died the same way for freaking sake and you really thought it was normal?” He scoffed. “You are smarter than this, Dr. Abby.”

“Tara died the same way also…” The words came out in a whisper but it was quite a miracle that he heard them correctly.

“Exactly why it is pinned as a murder case, honey pie.”

She glared at him. “Don’t fuc-k ing call me that.”

He threw his hands up in the air as if in surrender. “Oops, my bad. You are the first woman I’ve met who hates the nickname honey. I want to ask why but I know you wouldn’t tell and besides, now is not the proper time for us to get to know each other.” He grinned.

Abigail ran her fingers over the locks in her hair as she huffed out a breath, thinking about everything that happened two years ago.

Why didn’t she notice? Was she that oblivious and stupid? Marshall was right, she should be smarter than this.

If Tara and her five patients of two years ago were really murdered then who is the killer? And why did the idiot kill innocent people?

She gave the man standing in front of her a pointed look. Could Marshall be the killer? He has the look of a murderer and he behaves like one but what if he was innocent? What about Sandra…?

Abby had a lot in her mind but she didn’t know what to believe or think anymore.

The whole thing was confusing and complicated for her.

“Was it Nurse Thelma who told you?” She queried.

“Told me what?”

“That I bought goodies for Tara.” She replied.

He nodded his head as a yes, smirking. “Mm-hmm. And she is going to tell the cops exactly what she knows.” The way he said the last words about Thelma telling the cops exactly what she knows sounded suspicious but Abby didn’t reason much about it. Marshall heaved out a de-ep breath, going to sit down on the office chair behind the black polished desk. “So you see, you are more of a suspect than I am, Dr. Abby. You should be more worried about yourself because I am worried for you.”

Abby turned around and left the office without saying a word to the bastard.

His taunting and confidence weren’t what annoyed her but the fact that his words were right was what bothered her.

She walked throu-ghthe hallway and stepped out of the hospital building, feeling like she was choking on air.

She rushed to her car and hopped in, resting her forehead on the steering wheel as she inhaled shaky breath and exhaled.

Will she actually be pinned down for Tara’s murder?

She loved that child and would never hurt her physically. Tara was like a junior sister to her.

Abby bites her bottom li-p that was trembling uncontrollably. The weather temperature was very hot but she felt like she was freezing from the inside out.

“Oh, God…” She murmured, squeezing her eyes closed.

“Do you really want to take on the case, Detective Emma?” Desmond shot up a single brow, watching her closely. “I could give it to_”

“No, sir.” She cut him off. “This psychopath was able to escape me two years ago and now he is back. I won’t let him escape this time around.”

“Detective Emma,” He paused. “you are emotional about this case and I don’t want you to work on it based on your feelings.”

She shook her head. “I won’t, sir. I a-ssure you.”

Desmond moved his gaze to Robert. “What do you think, Detective Robert? Are you both willing to take back case 001?”

Robert hesitated as he glanced at his partner who was likewise staring at him, waiting to hear his answer.

He wanted to ask her if she was really okay with this.

He was the only one aside from Abby who knows a lot of things about Emma.

She sometimes acts to be strong but de-ep down, she was shattering.

Robert knew for sure that Emma was angry with this murderer and will stop at nothing until she catch the freaking psychopath.

But he wanted to make sure that she was okay. She has been obsessed with this case since two years ago.

The smartness, cunningness, unpredictability, and fastness of this murderer were on another level. It was as if the idiot was standing very close to them and knows about their every move and activity.

Every step he and Emma took forward felt like they were moving backward because the murderer will take a bigger step and have them slacking.

His partner, Emma was determined to catch the fuc-k ing psychopath. Maybe because he or she kept killing the patients of her best friend or because she didn’t like feeling like she can’t do a proper job as a detective Or for both reasons.

Robert straightened his back as he moved his gaze to their boss, seated in front of them, waiting for an answer as much as Emma was.

“Yes, sir. We will take back case 001.” Robert answered and he heard Emma let out a breath of relief.

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Robert asked as they strolled into the office.

“Of course, it is. If it isn’t…why then did you agree to it?” She asked him.

“Because I know how much you want to take back the case, Emma. And you know I will always support you no matter what.”

She sighed. “I know. It’s just…” She hesitated. “This psychopath killed my best friend’s favorite patient. He did it two years ago and now, he is back to doing it again. Abby is hurting and I can’t sit back and do nothing about it.”

“You keep using the pronoun ‘he’, what makes you think it’s a man?” Robert questioned.

Emma shrugged her shoulders. “Well, men are known to be criminals?”

“Offense taken, Emma. What? Is that what you think of men? Really?”

She chuckled. “I’m sorry, okay? I just have the feeling that it is a man’s doing. No woman would be that good at taking out perfect murders like this one. Even to date, we are yet to know the weapon of the killer because the bastard doesn’t use any!”

The door was pushed open and Ginny entered, dressed in a lilac knee-length gown and ankle black boots. She pulled her hair up into a high ponytail. She was looking pretty, as always.

Emma furrowed her brows as she watched the girl walk towards them – more like walked towards Robert.

She smirked. “Hi, handsome. Did you miss me?”

“Uh…”

“I thought you quit.” Emma interrupted Robert who was short of words to say.

Ginny rolled her eyes. “Is that your wish?”

“It is. And I was so glad that my wish came to reality. What are you doing here?”

“Well, sorry to burst your bubble. I’m back now.” She scoffed.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. What gave you the impression that you can quit and come back as you please?”

“What is your problem with me, young lady? Can you just let me fuc-k ing be!?” Ginny gro-aned.

“I’ve told you several times that you must talk to me with respect. Who the hell do you think you are? If you knew you weren’t going to quit and only threatened your father, why then are you clocking into work by this time of the day? Can’t you see how late you already are?”

“Does it look like I give a fuc-k ?” Ginny retorted. “I would have really quit this annoying and frustrating job but,” She moved her gaze to Robert and a smile appeared on her face. “I remembered Mr. Handsome.”

“Okay, you both should calm down.” Robert interjected, looking between the two ladies. “Now is not the right time to pull each other’s hair out or quarrel, okay? We have relevant things to take care of. And Ginny, you can’t come to work at this time. It is very unprofessional.”

“Really? I’m sorry.” She apologized, batting her eyelashes.

“Oh, so she can even apologize.” Emma mumbled under her breath.

“It’s okay if you are sorry but you have to promise not to repeat it again.”

Ginny quickly raised her hand in the air as if taking an oath. “I promise not to let it repeat itself. I will always come to work early as from today henceforth.”

He gave out a firm nod. “Good girl.”

She seductively bites her lower li-p, twirling her hair around her finger. “I will always be your good girl in any situation.”

Everyone in the room knew exactly what she was implying which made Emma scrunched her nose in disgust and…anger.

Robert made no comment on that.

“You are right, Rob. Now is not the time we fight and quarrel. We have other important things to take care of.” Emma ran the tip of her tongue over her dried li-ps. “Since you are able to tame her majesty, please keep a close watch on her and control her craziness while we go to the hospital to ask questions.”

“Hmm. let’s go.” Robert nodded.
