“Okay, I don’t think I can take this awkward silence any longer. What is going on, Emma?” Robert asked.

Emma looked at him with her brows raised in confusion. “What?”

“You’ve been sulking for a while now. What is going on in your head? Did something happen? You can talk to me.”

“Uhm, I’m fine, Rob. You don’t have to worry about me.”

“Listen,” He stopped walking and caught hold of her wrist as she wouldn’t stop walking as well. “Aside from being your partner, I am also a friend. You don’t have to pretend to be okay. I won’t judge you, Emma. Tell me what is eating you up because trust me, I hate seeing you like this.”

She bites her bottom li-p, clenching and unclenching her fist as she looked into her partners’ beautiful eyes. Now was not the best time to gawk at his handsome face but she just couldn’t help it.

She lowered her gaze so she would concentrate more on her feelings and thoughts instead of ogling over her se-xy and hot partner.

“Do you remember Abby?” She asked in a low and stressed-out voice. She doesn’t want to tell Robert about Abby’s nightmares, trauma, and scars but she just needed a friend at that moment. And here he was, offering her a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on.

Robert quickly nodded his head. “Yeah. Your doctor’s best friend. Right?”

“Mm-hmm. You remember her.”

“Of course, I do. She is your friend after all.”

“I am worried about her.” She whispered.

Robert creased his brows, watching her closely. “Did something happen to her? Is she okay?”

“She is okay. Well…physically she is okay but mentally,” Emma shook her head. “She’s not.”

“Care to explain?”

She hesitated. “Gosh. I shouldn’t be telling you this. It is none of your business.”

“Emma_”

She cut him off. “This is not my story to tell, Robert. It is my friend’s. She trusted me enough to keep her secret away from the world. I don’t want to fail her. I’m sorry. I really want to open up to you but…” She shook her head, letting out a shaky breath. “I can’t.”

Robert bobbed his head up and down in understanding, taking a quiet step closer to her. “I understand, Em. You don’t need to force it, okay? I only want to be sure that you are okay.”

She forced a smile onto her face. “I am.”

An officer walked towards them, “Detective Emma, Detective Robert.”

“Officer,” Both of them called out, moving their gaze to the man.

“The chief executive officer will like to see you two in his office. Right now.”

“Oh. Okay. Let’s go.” They all walked away.

Knock! Knock!

Jersey looked up from the laptop screen to the door.

“Yes? Come in.” He ushered.

The door opened and Abigail walked in.

“Good day, sir.” She greeted with a little bow of the head.

“How are you doing, Dr. Abby.”

“I’m…fine.” She replied.

“Good to hear. Please seat down.” He offered.

“Thank you.” She smiled and took a seat opposite him. “How is your day going?”

“Smoothly. But stressful.” He smiled back at her. “Anyway, what brings you here to my office?”

“I am here to have a word with you, Director. I know I shouldn’t do this but…I should at least try my luck.”

He raised a questioning brow, leaning back into the seat. “I see. What are we talking about, Dr. Abby?”

She paused. “Ward 302.”

“Are we still on the matter? I thought I already explained everything to you. Dr. Marshall will be the doctor in charge of the patient. Why are you here now to still talk about it?” He asked.

“I don’t think I can accept that change, Director Jersey. Tara is so fond of me. It will affect her if she hears about this. Please try to under_”

“No,” He cuts her off. “Don’t do this, Dr. Abby. I don’t want to be rude here but you are making it difficult for me to maintain my cool. You fed her cupcakes and you know well enough that she has an allergy to them. That could have killed the girl. Do you know what will happen if words get out there? Your doctor’s license could be restricted or even worse, it could affect the hospital’s image. I am trying to protect you, the little girl, and the hospital, Dr. Abby. Don’t make it look like I am doing something stupid.” He said.

Abigail swallowed nothing, nodding her head. It was quite obvious that nothing she was going to say will change anything. Jersey has already made up his mind and it will be best for her to concur.

“Okay, sir. I’m sorry for disturbing you. I will see myself out.” She bowed slightly and left the office.

Jersey released a de-ep breath and started ma-ssaging his temple, staring at the closed door. He wasn’t too harsh on her, right? Was he rude? Maybe he should have been a little nicer.

•••••

Abby knocked softly on the door and then pushed it open before walking inside.

She sighted Tara by the window, gazing at the clear blue sky.

“Kitten, hey.” She said cheerfully, stepping close to the little girl but stopped right on her track when Tara turned to her with bloodshed eyes.

“Dr. Abby,” She cried.

Abigail rushed to Tara, looking very worried and scared. “Hey, kitten. What happened? Why are you crying? Please talk to me.”

Tara shook her head, still eyes her eyes out. However, her next words almost knocked Abby off her feet.

“I want to die, Dr. Abby.”YTM
