The Female Soldier, Episode 11

"I was the one who went to pay your bride price.

There is nothing wrong if you agree to marry

me. Please accept the ring. Don't disgrace me in

public. Please, I really love you and I want to

spend the rest of my life with you." Leke said to

the female soldier. They were at a restaurant

where they had gone to have a good time. The

female soldier never knew that Leke was going

to propose to her, so she was overwhelmed with

emotions when he whipped out a nice ring and

gave to her. She was scared to accept it

because she still felt something strong for Acho

and she does not know how he would react if he

finds out she agreed to marry his best friend.

"Are you sure about this Leke? Don't you think it is too early to make such a huge decision? Besides, your friend might still be interested in mending settling things with me. How is he going to react of he finds out that you have snatched his 'wife?' Don't you think we should wait and give ourselves some time to reflect?" The female soldier asked. She was weeping and smiling at the same time. You know that confusing moment when you don't know what to feel. You want to feel happy for a new beginning, yet, the sadness of the past keeps drawing you back and consuming your happiness.

"Why are you still talking about Acho? He dumped you! For all I care, he does not love you. If he loves you, he would not have dumped you despite everything you did for him when he was in captivity. After all you did for him, he still had the audacity to dump you when you needed him the most. He disgraced you and you are still talking about him? Common, please, accept this ring and agree to be my wife. Let's move forward and forget about Acho because he belongs to your past and you were not even supposed to mention his name." Leke said tenderly. He was still kneeling down with his eyes fixed on the female soldier.

The time was 9pm and the restaurant was beginning to be quiet when Leke proposed to the female soldier. Only a few people were around and they were minding their businesses as if they were not aware of the romantic event happening beside them.

"What if Acho comes back to lay claim to me? Remember, the bride price was paid in his name and my family knew him as my husband. How am I going to explain this to my family? How drawing you back and consuming your happiness.

How am I going to tell them that I have abandoned the man that paid my bride price to follow his friend? The whole thing does not make sense to me. I'm confused on what to do, because my family does not know you. It is Acho that they know. How are they going to react if they hear that I'm married to you instead of Acho?" The female soldier asked. By this time, she had Joined Leke in kneeling down and they were kind of conversing heart to heart.

"How can you say your family does not know me? I was physically present to pay your bride price. Acho was nowhere to be found. It was me who took money and everything that was required to your family, not Acho. He was going to miss the traditional wedding. I think it is only fitting that you accept to marry me and be my wife now that Acho has childishly backed out." Leke explained. He was getting tired of kneeling down, so the female soldier held him up and they both sat down and continued the conversation.

"Honestly, if you ask me, this is exactly what my heart wants. I want to move on and find true love again, but I'm so scared. I don't know if it is right to quickly switch to you immediately after I was dumped by Acho." The female soldier lamented. Her heart was in pain as she remembered that her wedding never held. She remembered all the dance steps she had practiced and kept for her wedding day. All the things she had prepared for that day never came to pass. Each time she looks back to 24 hours ago, tears would rush down her eyes.

"Please stop crying. There is no need for you to

cry. I want you to understand that the worse has

happened. I mean, your fear is just misplaced.

Acho has dumped you and would never return

and the General is dead. What is making you

scared? Am I not a good man? Why are you

refusing to accept my ring? Please, don't do this

to me because I have nursed this ambition for a

long time. Now that the opportunity presented

itself for me to marry you, you want to turn me

down?" Leke asked.

"So you have been crushing on me and waiting for the perfect opportunity? You are a bad person? I mean, I was your friend's fiancée." The female soldier said with a smile on her face. Leke was happy that at least, she smiled. He then knew he was making progress.

"Now you are laughing, I know you will soon accept the ring." Leke said jovially.

"Please, answer the question I asked you. Were you crushing on me this whole time? You wanted to snatch me from your friend?" The female soldier asked again, still smiling mildly.

"Yes, I was crushing on you, but I was not going to snatch you from him. However, no man would see a good woman and not pick her up especially if she has been dumped by an ungrateful man." Leke said. He held out the ring again and the female soldier stretched out her left hand.

"Will you marry me?" Leke asked.

"Yes I will marry you." The female soldier said. They both hugged and locked lips as Leke inserted the ring on her finger. He was so happy.

So less than 72 hours after the female soldier was dumped by Acho, she found comfort on the shoulders of Acho's best friend, Leke. They commenced their wedding plans immediately. But a day later, the female soldier found out she was pregnant. Who is the father of the baby?
