The Female Soldier, Episode 7

"Why are you sitting here like this? What

happened? Are you okay?" Leke asked the

female soldier who was still sitting by the

roadside where she was pushed down by Acho.

Leke is Acho's best friend and he was the one

who helped the female soldier to go to her

village to represent Acho. He had successfully

gone to the female soldier's village and paid the

bride price. The 'Umunna' had no issues with

the fact that Acho was not around physically.

So far as the man he sent brought all the things

they asked for in the bride prize list, they

seemed not to care. He came back to narrate

the outcome of his journey to the female soldier,

but he didn't see her in her house. He decided to

check to see if she would be at the barracks

only for him to find her seated by the roadside.

"What happened?" Leke asked again with concern written on his face. In his mind, he was thinking Acho had not been released or something worse had happened.

"Has Acho been released?" Leke asked.

"Yes!" The female soldier responded, nodding her head like a little child.

"So why are you sad? Why are you sitting here mournfully? Why are you sad? Does this not call for a celebration? Please get up let us go." Leke said as he reached out and helped the female soldier to stand up from the dusty ground. She stood up painfully as if she had been beaten by a heavy rain.

"What happened?" Leke asked, holding the female soldier close to himself in a bid to reassure her.

"I messed up." The female soldier said. The gale of guilt swept across her body and generated goose bumps. It is that moment you realize you have done something terribly wrong and there was no way to remedy the situation. While she doesn't know why Acho was angry with her, she knew the General must have done something to interfere with her relationship with Acho.

"Can you believe it was Acho who pushed me down? was not just sitting there to rest. He pushed me and I fell. He did this immediately he came out from the kidnapper's den. After all I did to rescue him. I risked my life, my job and put my money on the line to make sure he was not put to shame and the first thing he did was put my money on the line to make sure he was not put to shame and the first thing he did was to attack me the moment he found his freedom. I'm highly disappointed and my heart is broken. "The female soldier said as she walked into Leke's car and took the front seat. Leke mounted the steering and ignited the engine of the Toyota Corrola car.

"It is too early to talk of heartbreak. Did he speak to you at all? Or he just pushed you down?" Leke asked with surprise.

"He didn't say anything. He just pushed me aside like someone who is not important. It was painful given that I just had a rough experience to have him released." The female soldier lamented. She was crying and Leke handed her a tissue paper to wipe her tears.

"I'm so sorry you are going through all these. But I want you to take a deep breath and calm down. I'm driving you to Acho's house so that we can know why he behaved the way he did. There must be a reason behind his behavior. He could not just have pushed you or maltreated you for no reason. May he was stressed due to the number of days he spent in the kidnappers den. You know, it is not easy being held captive.

"Leke said. His eyes were focused on the beautifully tarred road as he branched off into the street where Acho's apartment is located.

"You said you had a rough experience in other to secure Acho's release. Would you like to share it with me? When you are not talking to close friends about your problems, it is very dangerous because a problem shared is half solved." Leke said advisedly. He drove into the compound and packed his car.

"I slept with the General. That was the demand

he made before he agreed to release Acho. I had

to do it because there was no other way out. I

messed up! I was overwhelmed with sorrow and

pressure and I didn't know when I gave in to his

demands. The pressure and the absence of my

fiancée were crushing me. I had to do it Leke.

Please, don't tell anyone about it. It's a secret."

The female soldier said with tears in her eyes.

Leke was shocked but he was able to control

himself because if he didn't, he would betray his

emotions and Acho could find out. They were

going to knock at Acho's door when he opened

It suddenly and came out.

"And where do you think you are going?" Acho asked no one in particular. Both Leke and the female soldier exchanged glances, not knowing how to answer the question. Acho had freshened up, but he stilled looked weak and tired. When the female soldier saw him, her heart sank into her belly. She wanted to rush and hug him, but the experience she had earlier held her back.

"We are coming to see you of course." Leke said.

"Coming to see who? Look Leke, take this lady out of my apartment and I don't ever want to set my eyes on her again. She is not the wife material I thought she was. I give you people five minutes to disappear from this place." Acho said with a loud voice that depicted anger.

"What did I do wrong? I was the one running around to make sure you are released by the kidnappers. This is how you repay me? I think this is unfair." The female soldier said emotionally.

"You are asking me what you did wrong? Okay, tell me, why did you sleep with the General? His boys told me and they even showed me a picture of you and him in the room. I even have the picture in my phone." Acho said. He flipped out his phone and showed the picture to the female soldier and Leke. The female soldier did not know that the General used his phone to snap a picture of her when she was dressing up after the bedroom action. The picture just showed when she had finished dressing up and was struggling to zip up her gown. The General had offered to help her and he took a photo of her back and had it sent to his boys who showed it to Acho before releasing him. The General's aim was to completely separate Acho and the female soldier.

"I did it for you. Do you know how long it took me to muster the courage to do that? If I didn't give him what he wanted, you would still be in the kidnapper's den by now." The female soldier said forcefully, but she knew it was game over. The General had won. She was weeping.

"But how can you send her away? We have even paid the bride price and she has officially become your wife. You can't send your wife away Acho." Leke said in a desperate bid to save the situation.

"What did you just say?" Acho asked.

"I said we paid the bride price on your behalf because time was running out and her people were running out of patience after you failed to show up. I had to go and represent you and everything went successfully." Leke said.

"Who gave you the money you used?" Acho asked.

"She gave it to me. She used her money." Leke said.

"The two of you must be jokers." Acho said angrily as he slammed the door and went back into his room.
