The Female Soldier, Episode Three

"If you call off the wedding, Acho will be released." A voice said over the phone. It has been six hours since Acho went missing and it has been a very difficult situation for the female soldier. She decided not to tell anyone to avoid panic and to try to handle the whole problem on her own.

"There is no way I'm calling off my wedding. It will still hold as planned. Besides, how do I know you haven't already killed him? How do I know he is still alive? But I'm assuring you that if you kill him, you will have me to contend with. Everything you did to him, I will do to you twice, "The female soldier said.

"Your fiancée is still alive, that I can assure you. But forget about the planned wedding because it is not going to hold. But if you insist on going ahead with it, you will never see Acho again." The voice said. Strangely, it was a woman who was communicating with the female soldier. She wondered who she was, but decided that it was none of her business who the caller might be. All she wanted was for her fiancée to be released.

"Where are you keeping my fiancée?" The female soldier asked.

"I will let you know if you are ready to call off the wedding." The voice said.

"Can you give him the phone? I want to hear his voice to be sure he is still alive." The female soldier said. It was not long before Acho was put on the phone. He sounded very weak and exhausted, but his voice was still audible.

"I'm still alive, but I don't know for how long. I'm fatally injured and I need medical help as urgently as possible. If I don't get medical help soon, I might not make it. Please, agree to their terms let us call off the wedding. I don't want to die yet. I'm the only son of my parents. Please, tell them you will call off the wedding." Acho said over the phone. The sound of his voice and all he was saying broke the female soldier's heart. She became very weak and unable to say more. She just held the phone to hear ear and froze in shock and deep pain.

"My love, please stay strong. I promise I'm coming to rescue you. Nothing will happen to you. You are my world and I can't endure it should anything happen to you. Please, promise me you will stay strong. Don't give up on our relationship. Don't give up on us just like that. They dare not kill you, because if they do, I will kill them too. Stay strong and I promise you will be out of that place within a few hours." The female soldier said. The phone was still on her right ear but she had no idea that the kidnappers had hung up. She was just talking to herself in her room and whatever she was saying did not go beyond the ceiling of the house.

"Oh God! Why is this happening to me? I actually thought I had found a husband. I will be clocking thirty next month and I was finally happy that I will be in my husband's house on my 30th birthday, but look at me. My fiancée has been kidnapped." The female solder was so sad and sorrowful. If one could put a raw yam in her heart, it would boil. Her heart was shattered into tiny pieces like a broken mirror. With the deep pain in her heart, the female soldier stood up from where she was sitting, dressed up in military camouflage, took her gun and stepped out of the house. She flagged a taxi and went straight to the barracks. When she got there, she went into the General's office and found him at his desk.

"My fiancée was kidnapped a few hours ago. Do you have a hand in it? I'm not going to ask you twice. Answer me straight away." The female soldier yelled. She had her gun, but she was not pointing it at the General who acted as if he was not hearing what she was saying. She eventually repeated the question and the General answered her.

"I told you there would be severe consequences if you fail to call off the wedding. You can't say I didn't warn you." The General said, basically admitting to being the one behind what happened to Acho. The female soldier was livid with anger, but she controlled herself and left the office. Attacking a superior officer in the army is a grave crime especially when it was very possible to discover she was the one who did it. Besides, there was a barrage of tough- looking soldiers stationed outside the General's office. She was sure she won't make it out alive if she did anything rash. It was better to run and fight another day. And so, she left the office in silence and deep-seated anger.

"How am going to rescue my fiancée? I don't even know where they are keeping him." She asked herself as soon as she was home. Just then, a tiny thought dropped into the female soldier's heart. One time like that, the General had taken her to a hotel where he usually takes his side chicks. She remembered that the General had leaked a secret to her.

"This lady gave birth to a child for me. She gave birth to a male child. My wife hasn't been able to give me a male child. But I'm happy I finally had a male child through this lady. Please, from now on, I will be sending you to her house to deliver money and other goodies for her and the baby. Please, keep this a secret; you are the only one I have told." The General had said about two years ago.

"I'm going to kidnap her and the baby." The female soldier said after remembering the conversation she had with the General back then. She went straight to the side chick's house and when she got there, she seized her and the child and took them to an uncompleted building. Once they were there, she called the General on phone.

"General, I have your side chick and the baby. Don't joke with me. You know what to do. If you don't release my fiancée, there will be concequences." The female soldier said and hung up.
