Odoziaku, Episode Five

"What gave you the audacity to leave my house

without telling me? It's been one week since you

went out and you didn't return home. Have you

forgotten you are married? You are still married

to me and you practically disappeared without

trace for many days. Are you crazy?" Aku

asked. He was shouting on top of his voice as if

he was questioning a little baby. He had waited

for Odoziaku to return home but to no avail. He

started looking for her and he finally was able

to track her to her official residence.

"I was actually crazy to have married and lived with a man like you. I wonder what led me to marrying you. Because there is no way any normal human being would have been able to live with you. So yes, I was crazy. For the first time in your life, you are right!" Odoziaku said.

She had a glass cup filled with red wine in her right hand and she used it to gesture confidently as she talked. The bottle of red wine was on her center table. They were talking in her living room. While she was seated, Aku was standing and staring at her menacingly but she was not bordered. She was no longer scared of him.

"Watch your tongue woman! I'm still your husband and you are still under me. I will detach your tongue from your mouth if you talk to me without respect." Aku threatened. He came closer to Odoziaku as if he wants to attack her. Odoziaku did not even shake or behave as if she was scared. She was just calmly sipping her wine.

"You are a bloody coward Aku. I know you can't do anything. You have always being a coward. Any man that beats a woman is a stupid coward and that is what you are, You are irredeemably lost." Odoziaku said with an air of sarcasm. Again, she sipped her wine.

"Watch your tongue!" Aku warned again.

"Are you threatening me? In my own house?" Odoziaku asked. She stood up from her sit and faced Aku directly. Aku was surprised at the sudden effrontery being displayed by Odoziaku. She was no longer the whimpering chicken she was in his house. This made him to be scared, but he continued to talk with a commanding voice so as not to lose face.

"I'm not threatening you. But I will show you the other side of me if you continue to talk to me with disrespect." Aku said.

"The other side of you? Which other side of you have I not seen? You have beaten me up several times, you made me lose two pregnancies; you took my salary from me. I mean, what else do you have to show? Honestly, I want to see it." Odoziaku said. She was then talking menacingly at Aku.

"Why didn't receive alert in my phone? What happened to your salary?" Aku asked.

"You are stupid Aku. Your head is not correct! You know what? I'm free from your slavery! You have tormented me for many months. Getting married to you was a huge mistake. And you know what? I'm done with this mess called marriage."

Odoziaku said. She was standing in front of Aku and facing the window.

"You what? Remember we are not divorced. You have no way out of this. Besides, I paid your bride price and it is not returned to me yet." Aku said.

"I was the one who gave you money to pay my bride price, remember? You had no money! You were poor and wretched and you are still poor and wretched. I was so desperate to get married

and leave my parents' house that I paid my own

bride price and followed you. Not knowing that

you are a beast." Aku became very ashamed of

himself. He lowered his head like a child

receiving instructions from an elder. But there

was also a lot of anger in his head. He got ready

to attack Odoziaku, but she was also ready for

the worse.

"Take this phone and put your account number there let me refund the bride price to you. Even though it was my N92,000 that you used to pay. I will still send it back to you. Remember, we were not legally married because we didn't do court marriage, so thanks goodness, no need to file for any divorce. Put your account number here." Odoziaku said, stretching her phone to Aku. He refused to take it. Instead, he attempted to slap Odoziaku but she quickly held his hand up in the air. Aku was surprised at the energy that his wife was displaying. Odoziaku grabbed the bottle of wine and broke it on the table and held it directly on Aku's face as if she wanted to stab him.

"If you ever try to lay your filthy hands on me again, I will make sure I lock you up and throw the keys into the ocean." Odoziaku said. Aku was so scared that he started shaking badly. Immediately Odoziaku let go of his hand, he ran out of the house with speed. He never returned and Odoziaku became truly free.
