Canned Soup

Blake

Before seeing Nicole have a serious breakdown yesterday, I was determined to give up on her. I was cool with leaving her alone for the rest of the time that she was my roommate. Despite how badly I still wanted her, I was willing to respect her and my sister's friendship.

I still respected their friendship, but I no longer felt the need to stop trying. Except now I wasn't trying just to get into her pants, I wanted to be her friend. A support system that she could trust when she didn't wanna leave our room.

Even though she had my sister and they were becoming awfully close, I knew she had her days where she didn't wanna leave her bed, let alone the room. Yesterday was proof enough of that. She preferred crying alone in the shower, rather than going to my sister for comfort.

Only reason she accepted me as comfort was because I caught her. If not I was sure she would've continued to suffer in silence and on her own.

No one deserved to go through shit alone. I wouldn't let her go through it alone anymore. Maybe that was what she was used to, but with me here all she'll learn to know is company and care.

After she had enough of her freezing shower yesterday, she asked me to step out so she could actually have a warm shower to get clean. Despite how much I was freezing my ass off, I did as she said and now I was paying the consequences.

I was sick as shit.

A spoon hovered in front of my lips. "Open your mouth."

"I'm not a baby, you know?" I grumbled at my sister, yet still opened my mouth so she could feed me the soup she made for me. Or so she claimed she did. She couldn't convince me that it wasn't warmed up canned soup. I wasn't gonna ruin that pride for her though. It didn't kill me to just accept her form of love.

"The way you act sometimes seems like you are," Patricia scoffed, pulling the spoon out of my mouth to scoop some more.

Mel was on her bed studying, looking over every now and then to watch me being fed like a child. I could tell she was trying her best to hold in her laugh. This must've been the most entertainment she had gotten so far. All she really did was stay in the room from what Patricia had told me. No matter how much my sister insisted her to go out with us, she always preferred to stay in and study.

Knowing my sister, she wasn't giving up. If there was one thing my sister didn't know how to do, it was knowing how to take "no" as an answer.

"How'd you even get sick?" My sister kept her questions coming. Surprised that wasn't the first question she asked. "You hardly ever get sick."

My mind wandered back to Nicole in need of emotional support and figured she'd want that to stay between us, even though she didn't tell me to keep it a secret. I doubted she'd want me to tell anyone that I had to hold her as she cried, both of us standing under a cold ass fucking shower.

The only logical answer was to lie, even if it was hard to lie to my sister. She could catch a lie from a mile away and she won't leave you alone until she finds out the truth. But I could at least try. "I went out with wet hair after my shower." Not really a lie if all I did was keep out some details.

Her eyes squinted in suspicion, or maybe I was just scared and noticing every detail in her expression at the moment. Instead of questioning me further, though, she just shook her head and rolled her eyes, feeding me more of the soup. "You're an idiot. You know you're a sensitive baby. Why would you do that?"

I shrugged, growing to enjoy her canned soup. Maybe I was just that hungry. "'Cause I'm an idiot."

"Glad you finally see the reality of how dumb you are."

I rolled my eyes as I chewed. "Okay, I get it."

"Do you?"

"Yes."

"Whatever," she huffed, handing me the bowl. "Here, finish up. Ima go make you a tea. I'll be back."

She stood from her bed and both Mel and I watched her walk out of the room. Once the door shut behind her, I disregarded the spoon and put my lips on the bowl, tipping it so I could just swallow it all in one go. Setting the empty bowl on the desk, I waved goodbye to Mel and walked out of their dorm to go to my own room.

Nicole was on her bed, reading as she usually did. When she saw me walk in, she set her book down on her chest and gave me a small smile. With a sniffle, I smiled back. Almost immediately, her eyebrows furrowed. "You're sick?"

"Yeah, but I'll be fine." I waved her off, going to my own bed and getting under my covers. "I'm not dying or anything."

By the way she sat up to look at me, I knew she wasn't gonna drop it. Great. Now it looked like I had two worried sisters. Except, I didn't want to see Nicole as a sister. I wouldn't. That'd be weird if I did.

"You're taking medicine at least, right?"

With a cough, I nodded. "Patricia made me take some earlier. Don't be shocked if she comes knocking in a few hours to make me take the next dose."

"Well, that's good that she cares enough to take care of you," she mumbled as she went back to her book, avoiding my eyes now. Was she trying to act nonchalant now? Cute. "You need someone who cares."

Deciding it would be fun to tease her a bit, I sat up to watch her. Her cheeks got some color almost as soon as she felt me staring, but her eyes remained on the pages of her smutty book. Sure it was a different book than the one I saw last time, but I was positive every single one of her books at least had a bit of spice as they called it.

"You're telling me you don't care about me? Even the least bit?" Following my question with a deep cough into my sleeve, I watched as she rolled those beautiful brown eyes. I loved annoying her almost as much as I loved making her blush.

"You're annoying."

"I only annoy those I love." Strong word, but she knew I was using it in a teasing manner so it really didn't matter. The scoff she let out was proof of that.

"You? Love? You only love yourself," she carefully flipped the page. "Maybe your sister."

That time, I was the one who rolled my eyes. "Of course I love my sister. There's no maybe about that." The small smile told me she was also teasing me. "I also love my parents."

"Mmm, even I love your dad." A hand went up to her face as she squeezed her bottom lip between her thumb and middle finger, looking off into space. "What a shame he's married already."

"Yeah, to my mom who you also met, mind you."

If she was trying to make me uncomfortable, it was working. The last thing I wanted to hear was the girl I was trying to fuck daydream about my dad. I knew girls were into older men and there was no shame about it. So long as it wasn't my dad.

She giggled, going back to her book as if she wasn't drooling over my dad not even a minute ago. "Your mom is also very gorgeous. They make a lovely couple. They got one very attractive kid out of it."

"You're saying you don't think my sister is attractive?" I knew what she really meant, but we were still teasing one another. At least I was. "I'm gonna have to tell her that her only close friend thinks she's ugly."

Another page in her book was flipped and she was quiet for a moment, completely focused on the storyline. The tint getting darker in her cheeks could only mean one thing.

"Good sex scene, huh?"

As if barely remembering I was here, she shut her book and fanned herself with her hand. "Better than you could ever offer anyone, that's for sure. Back to the topic of attractive siblings; if anything, I'm gonna have to feel pity for Patricia for having such an ugly brother."

Feigning offense, I placed a hand over my heart and gaped at her. "How could you? That's hurtful."

"Go get your ego remedied by one of your little booty calls." The playful tone was no longer there, and I was confused when she climbed off her bed and went into the bathroom without another word.

I couldn't have been more confused on what the hell just happened.
