Veiny

Olivia

"How are your hands?"

"Huh?" I'd spaced out.

Glancing at me and keeping an eye on the road, Shayne said, "Do you still feel the pain?."

I looked down at my slightly swollen fingers and absently shook my head, distracted by the image of what I had found in that drawer.

Three life-size penises had been placed in glass boxes, with their respective tubes of lube. One; average sized, completely transparent. Another; a lot bigger, red. And the other; the mammoth of the trio was black and veiny. Dear God.

They were all fastened to leather harnesses and the thought of Shayne strapping herself up to do unthinkable things to me rendered me speechless for a long while.

It wasn't that I was appalled or even surprised to find them. I was instead caught offguard by my feelings. Shock. Uneasiness. Doubt. Embarrassment. And intrigue, overwhelming intrigue.

I snuck a glance at her and wanted to knock myself out for the words that went flying out of my mouth. "Are they meant for me?"

She didn't hesitate. "Not exactly." She passed me another sideways look. "I get rid of them as soon as I'm no longer with someone, and then get a new set."

"So in a way, they are meant for me?" My voice came out shakier than I intended because of that very thought.

She sighed heavily as she turned into a dirt road. "Babe, if you don't want to talk about this, we don't have to. I'll throw them away as soon as we get back."

I failed to say anything else, mortified that for a second I almost protested.

"Alright. We're here." As she said this, I realized she was pulling up to the front of an old rusty farm house.

"Is this where we're meeting Lucille Crawford?"

"Yes." She avoided my eyes.

I waited until she cut off the engine. "Shayne, who are we really meeting?"

"Luci..."

I reached for her face and gently placed my palm on her cheek, looking her dead in the eye. "Please don't lie to me."

She stared at me until her eyes briefly shut. When those hazel depths were revealed to me again, there were apologies in them. "I'm sorry, Olivia."

My heart was beating against it's usual pace. "For what?"

"Lucille is meeting us, but we're also meeting your mother."

My hand immediately fell away from her face. "My mother?"

"Yes, I think it's about time you two made up."

I was livid. "That's not your choice to make."

"I know, but we need your mother. And I'm sorry that I'm dumping this on you, I had no choice."

"What do you need her for? And why the hell do I need to be here? You knew how this would make me feel." Tears blurred my vision and she tried to reach for me. "Don't touch me!"

She pulled away, roughly wiping a hand down her face. "Stay in the car, okay?"

I turned my face away, letting the tears fall as she stepped out of the car.

She had no right. It was my problem and mine to solve all on my own. It was my healing process and...

A large van, black and armored came into my view. I hadn't noticed it before as it was parked up against the side of the house. Shayne was walking towards it and I had to tear my gaze away from her lean form to study the van further.

The front door opened, and out stepped a lanky man in a dark sharp suit. That and his confident demeanor screamed lawyer, and I instantly knew that he was Lucille Crawford.

My attention was taken away from him the moment the sliding door of the van opened.

My mother stepped out, still looking poised and sway in an elegant designer dress. My heart ached at the sight of her, but in the next second, it split right open.

Someone else stepped out of the van, chains adorning his wrists and ankles. That disgusting orange jumpsuit was brighter than the sun.

Dad.

Absently, I stepped out of the car, slowly shutting the door closed. Fresh tears poured down my face, and to my shock, I didn't think about the fact that we weren't biologically connected. All I thought about was how much I loved him to death and that I hadn't seen him in several months.

When his gaze found mine, a whimper escaped him, his face contorting into one of pain and relief.

"Oh, my girl, my little girl," he said when I stopped a few feet away from him. I was outwardly weeping at this point.

Two gigantic armed men in gray uniforms appeared beside him, and unlocked the chains bound to him.

I couldn't stop the cry of dismay that came out of my mouth, as he looked ashamed from having been handled like a criminal.

The moment his arms were free, I flew into his embrace. Uncontrollable quakes rattled my body, and I couldn't tell if I was having a seizure or not.

"I'm so sorry, dad. I should have come to see you. But I was scared. I couldn't stand the thought of seeing you and knowing you were never coming home," I cried into his chest.

"Don't you worry, sweetie. I was content knowing you were just fine. But when I heard about the fire, I..." He didn't continue, instead he pulled away and wiped away my tears. "I'm glad you're safe and in one piece. My beautiful little girl." He grinned widely even with tears wetting his cheeks.

I smiled back. "I missed you, daddy. But how is this possible? How..."

"Lucille Crawford at your service, Ms. Ryans," a blue eyed man said, walking up to me. The impeccably dressed guy was indeed who I'd thought he was.

"Hello, Mr. Crawford. You made this happen? How?"

"Filed for a transfer. Asked a friend for a favor. Pulled some strings. Long story short, I'm the best at what I do. But we only have a couple of hours before Mr. Ryans is taken back. Now will you please follow me?"

As Lucille led us towards the entrance of the farmhouse, my mother walked a couple of feet away from us. At a closer look, she looked worn and depressed, and I felt guilty right away.

She was still my mother after all. The least I could do was hear her side of the story.

Lucille opened the front door, and I was stunned. The interior of the farm house was nothing like the exterior. While the exterior was all ancient wood, the interior was all steel and marble. It didn't look like a home.

What I expected to be the living room resembled an office of some sort. An array of TVs were mounted against one side of the wall with computers spread out below them. It looked like something you'd see in a movie.

"This is a safe house. What we'll discuss is sensitive, hence the location."

When the front door closed behind me, I realized the only people that had entered the room with me were my parents and Lucille. I craved Shayne's protective presence but I was still mad at her. She could have just told me first and let me emotionally prepare.

STORY CONTINUES BELLOW

Lucille directed us to a black leather couch where I sat between my parents. For a moment, I felt a semblance of hope for our family, just for a moment.

"Let's just get right into it, why don't we?" Lucille said, taking a seat on the opposite couch. "I'm on a mission to take down a very dangerous man, Oran Demir."

"Oran Demir?" Dad said, confused.

"Who's that?" my mother said.

"He's some Turkish tycoon that invested in one of our real estate companies, but did you just say he's a very dangerous man?" he said to Lucille.

"Unfortunately. Oran Demir invests in companies all over the globe and uses them as a means to circulate his counterfeit money."

"So what does that mean?" my mother asked, her lower lip trembling.

"It means your husband could be one of Demir's victims. And we're not going to rest until that criminal gets what he deserves."

We all let out heavy breaths of relief, my father immediately starting to sob.

Fresh tears burned my eyes. "Thank the heavens." I squeezed my father's hand. "Why are we finding out about this now?"

"He's invested in lots of companies, and when things go south he always manages to leave scot-free. But this time he won't. This time he targeted my client, the CEO of Reyvox studios."

My heart instantly started pounding. "Shayne?" I couldn't breathe. "Is that why she was arrested?"

"Yes," Lucille simply said. He turned to my father. "Shayne West is the reason you're going to get your freedom back. Your daughter and her are...well..."

Before I could speak up, my mother said, "She's been taking care of our daughter for the last few months. Because of her, Olivia managed to get through a lot while you were away." She smiled with tears in her eyes as she looked at me with all the love I knew she had for me.

"Is this true?" my father said.

I tore my gaze away from my mother's. "It is. Shayne is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I...I'm in love with her, dad. Are you mad?"

"Why would I be mad? I've just found out that my daughter has been happy and cared for for while I've been away. If anything, I owe this person everything. May I speak with her."

"Of course." Lucille spoke into his radio. "Shayne, how 'bout you join us?"

"On my way." That low sensual voice came through the radio. My heart was palpitating uncontrollably at the sound. But it was partly because I wasn't sure if she'd heard what I'd told my father about my feelings for her.

In the next moment, she was coming through the door, her height demanding everyone's attention. Of course those gorgeous eyes were immediately on me.

As the door closed behind her, my father stood and approached her. Because I knew her so well, I could read her nervousness when she met eyes with my father. Without any warning, he pulled her into an embrace.

"Thank you so much. I'm forever indebted to you for everything you're doing for us," my father said.

Shayne cleared her throat, slipping hesitant arms around him. "Of course."

He pulled away and placed a hand on her shoulder. "But I won't be so grateful if I find out you've broken her heart. I'll hunt you down and won't care about a life sentence."

She managed to look disturbed. "Got it."

When my father came back to sit beside me, her eyes came back to mine. We stared at each other for a couple of seconds. Like a sixth sense, I knew she was asking if I was okay. I softly nodded.

She was about to turn to leave when my mother stopped her.

"Shayne, wait." She stood and walked to her, offering her hand. "Thank you."

Shayne received the handshake with a smile. "You don't need to thank me. I just hope this mends our bad start."

"It definitely does," my mother said, chuckling. And if I wasn't hallucinating, she was genuinely smiling.

When Shayne finally left, Lucille immediately pulled us back into business.

"I understand you all know who Loretta Montgomery is. But instead of getting our emotions involved because we don't have much time, why don't I just summarize things for everyone."

My mother was tense. "What does she have to do with anything?"

"A lot, she and an old acquaintance of Shayne are hell bent on destroying both Shayne and your daughter."

"Oh God," my mother exclaimed.

Lucille continued. "I'm guessing you didn't know she's unstable. She's been in and out of institutions ever since she was a toddler."

He was talking to me, and once again I felt angry at my parents for keeping so much from me.

"She recently got discharged after six months of good behaviour. I'm guessing it was a just a ploy to get out."

"When did she she get discharged?" I asked, holding my breath.

"Seven months ago."

"Around that time frame, a familiar woman practically spat at me and Shayne in traffic." I turned to my mother, fear and worry etched into her face. "By any chance, does she look like Aunt Macey?"

My father was the one to answer. "Spitting image."

I looked at him and saw the pain in his eyes, the apologies. Refusing to waste this time angry at him, I gave him a small smile and looked back at Lucille. "I'm guessing you didn't bring us all here to share that."

"No, so here's what's going to happen, and I'll need each one of you."
