When Depression Hits

Nicole

I knew I was in for a bad week when I woke up with the empty pit feeling in my stomach and a random urge to cry. At least I was hoping it would only last a week. But I knew that was hoping for too much. It never lasted just a week.

It wasn't hard to notice that Blake was gone. His side of the room was tidy and his bed was made. I never really knew if he slept in the dorm or not.

The most probable answer would be that he had sleepovers with whoever he chose for the week. Saw him hanging around a pretty redhead earlier when I got out of class.

Not that I cared.

With the urge to cry getting stronger, I stepped into my fluffy slippers and dragged my legs into the bathroom, making sure to lock the door even though I was alone in the room. The last thing I wanted was for Blake to walk in to see me ugly crying on the toilet.

Yeah, no thanks.

The moment the lock clicks into place, my tears stream down my face and a strangled sound escapes my lips. Slapping a hand over my mouth, I slide down the door and hug my legs, folding my arms over my knees and burying my face into them.

I didn't remember the last time I cried like this, but I knew I had to let it out so I didn't feel like I was walking on eggshells the entire day. One little inconvenience would trigger a breakdown in public. I sure as hell didn't want that.

After thirty minutes of allowing myself to feel what I needed to, I stood from the ground and looked in the mirror. My eyes were red and puffy, and I sniffled when the inevitable snot ran down my nose.

Just cause I was depressed didn't mean I had to look like I was, so I quickly undressed to enter the shower. By the time I got out, a whole hour had passed and the mirror was fogged up.

Wrapping a towel around myself, I exited the bathroom without thinking twice and stopped right in my tracks when I saw Blake standing beside his bed. Despite my shower, my eyes were still puffy and I knew he understood the situation. At least on the fact that I've been crying.

However, he thankfully didn't pay much mind to it as his eyes skimmed down my body and slowly came back up to smirk at me. "Easy access for me huh, sunshine?"

I scoffed and held the towel tighter to my body. "You wish."

"I do wish, but I'm so glad I'm not blind. I get to see how fucking beautiful you are without jeans."

Despite my best efforts, my face heated up and I turned away from him to look for my pajamas inside my side of the closet.

"Even with the towel, your ass is so prominent." He decided to let me know he was checking me out. "Fuck."

I'd be lying if I said I had zero reaction to the way he groaned that last part. Holding in a whimper, I pressed my thighs together as I dug through my drawers to distract myself, gasping softly when I felt him come up from behind.

"Can I touch you, Nicole?" His breath hit the exposed, wet skin on my neck. The way he said my name felt a lot different than all the random nicknames he usually called me. A shiver ran down my spine and my hold on the towel loosened a bit. "Nicole?" He tried again when I didn't say anything.

Shaking my head to snap out of it, I shifted away from him and let the cold air from the room hit my back again. "No, you can't, Blake," I sighed, disappointed that I took so long to reject him this time. "Quit invading my personal bubble."

I was emotionally vulnerable. At least that's what I kept telling myself. Because for a second, I actually considered letting him touch me.

Finally managing to pull out everything I was going to wear, I avoided his gaze as I made my way back into the warm bathroom to change.

"The day you let me touch you is the same day I'll thank God I was born."

I shut and locked the door behind me without saying anything, but the shiver that ran down my spine ended right between my legs. And I hated myself for it.

"You're disgusting."

"Am I?" Blake smirked as his sister rolled her eyes at him. "Not my fault you're nosey."

She gaped at him and Justus chuckled to himself, stopping the second Patricia turns to glare at him. Throwing his hands up, he winked at her.

That only made her blush, confusing Blake. He looked at his best friend to see what he could've done to make his sister blush, finding no answer because Justus was busy on his phone now.

The four of us were in Blake and I's dorm room after they all insisted we had to hang out somehow. Even if we didn't go out.

I actually didn't mind this time, because I really didn't want to be alone. It felt like my chest was getting more and more constricted the longer I spent time alone. Though, I chose not to drink like them.

Opening another beer for himself, Blake took a few swigs from it before leaning his head against mine. Justus looked over at us and smirked at me, making me scoff and move my head away. Blake's head dropped a few inches before he raised it on his own again, frowning over at me.

"Don't look at me like that, doofus."

"So mean to me." He pointed, looking and sounding like a child.

It was actually kinda cute. Kinda.

"Why aren't you drinking again?" Patricia asked me over the length of the can she was drinking out of.

I shrugged, mindlessly being the one to lean my head into Blake this time. I almost laughed when he immediately froze, not risking me moving away from him. "I've only drank once in my life, and I was a lightweight."

"What got you drunk that you were such a lightweight?" Justus asked after taking another drink from his beer.

"I think I just took like four shots and I was done for the night."

"Straight shots for your first and only time?" Blake questioned beside me. "Of what?"

"Tequila."

"Tequila is where it's at." Justus nodded. "I could go for a shot or two right now actually."

"Let's go buy a bottle!"

I turned to raise a brow at Patricia as she stood with a bit too much excitement. A little too steady as well, considering she's drank like eight beers. "Right now?"

"Sure, why not?" Justus stood next, offering me a hand to help me up.

Blake wrapped a protective arm around me and flipped him off. "She's mine."

Pulling my head away in the speed of light, I gave him a weird look, only to have a wink returned. "I'm not yours, you weirdo."

"I claimed you."

"Ew, please shut up." That came from his own sister, and he laughed. "Let's go buy a bottle now. Hurry up."

It was a much better option when Patricia offered her hand to me instead, which I quickly took so she could help me up and pull me away from Blake. She wrapped an arm around me as she steered me out of the room with Blake and Justus in tow.

By the time we got back to the room, we had two different bottles of tequila and a pack of mini red solo cups. Along with a variety of snacks.

"I guess one wouldn't hurt," I mumbled as Justus poured tequila into my cup. "Wait what about chasers?"

Patricia snorted, "I chase my shots with water. It's better. Helps you drink more than enough water so you don't get a hangover."

"I wouldn't get one anyway, cause I'm not drinking much."

Blake pat the top of my head, earning himself a glare from me. "It's never just one shot, sugarplum."

And there were the dumb nicknames again. I was kind of enjoying hearing my name coming from his lips.

And on that note, I threw the shot back and held back a gag before I took a bug gulp from my water bottle. The taste of alcohol coated my tongue and I barely managed not to make a face. Thankfully. Because when I turned to look at everyone, they were looking at me expectantly.

"Took that like a champ," Justus nodded, looking impressed.

"That's my girl."

My face dropped. "Shut up and pour me another."

"Slow down there, tigress."

Yet Blake was already pouring me my next shot, which I threw back just as fast before chugging more of my water. When the tight feeling in my chest got replaced by a warm feeling instead, I decided I wouldn't stop at four this time.
